Pure Storage...relevant to storage. Our main goal for the show is to interact with potential customers and explain the significant business benefits they can reap by switching from disk to AFA,” he says.

GITEX has grown significantly over the years, and Putz can see the change, even in their second year participating in the show. “GITEX is the equivalent of the “Super Bowl” for the Middle East technology community – while this is only our second year participating at GITEX, as we continue to grow our presence in the region, GITEX is a critical platform to help us build our brand awareness, meet with potential clients and continue to educate regional enterprises on the advantages of AFA storage,” says Putz.

Huawei...mobility, Internet of Things and connectivity among others can significantly impact various industries regionally and globally. He further highlighted that these factors will then drive tremendous change among organisations.

Speaking about the importance of the Middle East market for Huawei, Leung said that it is one of the most important markets for the company. “The Middle East is more or less the same size as the domestic China market, which makes is one of the major components of for Huawei’s presence in the EMEA region,” he says.

The Huawei chief underlines

the crucial role of events such as GITEX in terms of reaching out to their customers. “This presents us with a great platform to inform our current and potential customers of the latest offerings that we have. It’s also a great opportunity to catch-up and engage with our resellers,” says Leung. “At Huawei, our business models vary depending on the line of businesses that our products and solutions cater to. So, events like this are very instrumental in communications these business models to our channel partners.”

This year, Huawei’s participation at GITEX

features demonstrations and presentations of its latest products and solutions, which according to Leung, has strategically been segmented by industry.

Among the offerings that Huawei launched at the mega technology event are the OceanStor 18000 V3 and FusionCloud Desktop Solution 5.3, which are next-gen cloud and storage solutions. It also unveiled the Smart In-Vehicle IoT solution, which uses Huawei’s Agile IoT Gateway as a mission-critical component to offer a variety of services such as in-vehicle video surveillance and accurate passenger tracking.

What will you be doing special at this year’s GITEX and what are you showcasing? The focus at this year’s GITEX is our latest software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) solution - Unity EdgeConnect. Unity EdgeConnect enables enterprises to reduce the cost and complexity of building a WAN by leveraging broadband to connect users to applications. With real-time traffic direction over Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) links, edge-to-edge data security, and high-quality private line performance over the public Internet, and a unique Cloud Intelligence feature, the product is definitely garnering a lot of attention at this year’s GITEX. Our punch line with this solution is simple: ‘Broadband Your WAN’.

What is the relevance of this show to your business in the region?

This marks Silver Peak’s second outing at GITEX, and in our experience thus far, the event serves as an unparalleled platform to create brand awareness, generate new leads, and highlight our latest solutions to the region. For instance, the theme for this year’s GITEX is centred on the Internet of Things (IoT), a market which holds significant potential for companies such as Silver Peak – our core strength lies in providing easy-to-use, simple, and flexible software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) solutions, while cost-effectively utilising both MPLS and the Internet. So this year’s GITEX enables us to highlight the functions our solutions can serve within the IoT space.

Does GITEX help you connect with your customers and partners? We operate across the Middle

East through partners such as Dell, EMC, Gulf IT, K Logix, Alpha Data, Oregon Systems, Hitachi, Infotech, and most recently FVC, to mention a few. We are well connected to our partners, and in turn our customers, via our global channel partner programme. Still, GITEX is always a fantastic opportunity to interact with our current partners and customers face-to-face. And as we continue to grow our reach within the region, it helps us connect with prospective partners and customers as well.

What are some of the company plans for the next few months? With the Internet becoming more important and business-critical to organisations, the demand for software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) is climbing. We can leverage our SD-WAN solutions with augmented bandwidth that organisations already have on an MPLS service, whilst reducing the costs and bandwidth requirements of the MPLS. We are making it easier for companies to migrate over to Internet-based service in a secure environment, allowing them to connect to and access anything, from anywhere, in a flexible, scalable and easily managed solution. Given this, we are expecting a significant uptake in our solutions over the next few months. Additionally, we will also grow our partner base as the demand for our solutions scales up.

At GITEX 2015, Commvault, the enterprise data protection and information management vendor has announced the next generation of its solutions portfolio, delivering

a broad spectrum of innovation designed to help customers address the increasing challenges of managing data and information in highly disrupted, fast-paced global business environments.

The company’s new offerings aims to redefine the data protection, archive and cloud data markets where everything is application aware, authentication and encryption data security is essential, backup windows are significantly reduced, instant recovery is the standard, data is accessible natively from all live and versioned locations, disaster recovery is automated, and resources are optimised and orchestrated (storage, compute, and network).

“Commvault’s next generation software and platform are uniquely designed to help customers activate their data to unlock critical business insight and drive new value from their technology investments,” said N. Robert Hammer, Chairman, President and CEO, Commvault.  “The new Commvault release both leapfrogs point solution vendors in capabilities and functionality while also showcasing the performance, security, compliance, and economic benefits of a holistic data management strategy.”

SAP & Intel: Connected sports – key vertical for digital transformation

Connected sports will be the pioneering vertical for Middle East digital transformation, as Big Data solutions can transform the player, fan, media and venue experience, industry heavyweights SAP and Intel announced at GITEX Technology Week 2015.

In the Internet of Things (IoT) era, Middle East players, coaches and venue operators face new challenges in using advanced technology to improve team performance, provide new insights for fans and media, and maximize revenue sources.

Using insights that analyse

data from sensors on players and throughout stadiums, combined with location-based data from mobile devices, the sports and entertainment industry can simplify operations and enhance player performance, fan loyalty, and marketing and merchandising to fans and advertisers.

One sports pioneer using Big Data is the German National Football Team, which has used SAP solutions to analyse player and team performance since its championship run in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

“Football matches and training

sessions can produce a huge amount of data. For example, in a 10-minute football practice session, 10 players with three balls can produce over 7 million data points,” explained Jonathan Becher, chief digital officer and head of SAP Digital.

“As the Middle East ups its sporting game, mega-events such as 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix, and the Dubai World Cup can demonstrate the latest Big Data and digital innovations on the global stage,” added Becher.

SAP is committed to co-

innovating with its partners to deliver the latest solutions that can help the Middle East’s sporting world to simplify their operations, enhance the fan experience, and exchange best practices across additional industry verticals.

Supporting Big Data innovation in the region, SAP and Intel have teamed up on the Middle East and North Africa debut of the global Run Simple Tour at GITEX Technology Week 2015.

“With Middle East organisations facing a deluge of different types of data from IT systems and applications, managing the complexity consumes resources, prevents innovations, and puts business at risk,” said Taha Khalifa, General Manager, Middle East and North Africa, Intel.

“Intel and SAP worked closely together during the development of SAP HANA and as a result, the Intel Xeon processor E7 family is the reference architecture design platform for SAP HANA. With the availability of the Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family released earlier this year, SAP HANA deployments now deliver superior performance, with larger memory capacity, and an enhanced range of RAS features to help businesses gain real-time insights for better decision making, improved operational efficiency, and a greater competitive edge,” added Taha Khalifa.
