Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 21, 2015

FROM MY HEART (not from my desk) My dear friends, Before I leave for my new assignment at St. Colum-ban parish in Garden Grove, I want to express my gratitude and say a proper “farewell” to all of you here at St. Joseph. My time here has gone by quick-ly, and it has been wonderful. St. Joseph is a beauti-ful, historic, holy parish. It has been an honor to serve you as a parochial vicar under the leadership of two fine administrators: first, Fr. Ed Becker; and now Fr. Efrain Flores. Both administrators have been supportive, encouraging, and kind. Many thanks to all of you, dear parishioners of Saint Joseph! From my first day here, you welcomed me and made me feel at home. Thank you for your friendliness, your kindness, and your good example. I will miss you. Please keep me in your prayers, and I promise to pray for you. I pray that God will bless each of you abundantly, as he has blessed me through you during my time at St. Joseph parish. With a grateful heart, Fr. Philip

DE MI CORAZÓN (no de mi escritorio) Queridos amigos, Antes de irme para empezar mi nuevo ministerio pa-rroquial en la Iglesia de San Columbano en Garden Grove, quiero expresarles mi gratitud y decirles “adiós” a todos ustedes aquí en la parroquia de St. Joseph. Mi tiempo aquí ha pasado rápidamente y todo ha sido maravilloso. St. Joseph es una parro-quia hermosa, histórica y santa. Para mí ha sido un honor servirles como vicario parroquial bajo el lide-razgo de dos excelentes administradores: primero el P. Ed Becker; y ahora el P. Efrain Flores. Ambos administradores me han apoyado, me han animado y han sido muy amables conmigo. ¡Muchas gracias a todos ustedes, queridos feligreses de St. Joseph! THE WIND AND THE SEA Living along the shores of Lake Superior—the “big lake,” as the locals call it—you can often hear the advice, “Respect the lake; don’t take it for granted.” People who know Lake Superior respect its power and watch out for its many moods. Sunken ships and boats crushed into kindling are testimonies to what the lake can do. The readings of this Sunday evoke our memories of the lake, of the mighty Mississippi River, or of the ocean itself. Who but God can control these mighty waters and set limits to their advance? The lake described in today’s Gospel was a body of water subject to sudden storms and churned into dangerous waves by terrible winds. But these mighty agents are subject to God. The sailor and the fisher all respect the water. Even more, they re-spect the awesome power of the Maker of wind and sea.

EL VIENTO Y EL MAR Los que conocen bien el Lago Superior le tienen un saludable respeto, y siempre están alerta sobre sus caprichosos cambios de ánimo. Muchos barcos hundidos y muchos botes hechos astillas son testigos de lo que el lago puede hacer cuando está de mal humor. Las lecturas de este domingo nos evocan memorias de ese lago, del poderoso río Mississippi o del océano mismo. ¿Quién, fuera de Dios, podrá controlar esas aguas poderosas, o imponerles límites, diciendo “Hasta aquí llegarás”? El lago que describe el Evangelio de hoy era un lago en el que se levantaban súbitas tormentas, en las que los vientos huracanados agitaban olas enormes. Pero estas fuerzas tan poderosas se someten a la voluntad de Dios. Los marineros y los pescadores le tienen un saludable respeto al poder de las aguas. Pero más todavía respetan el poder del Creador del viento y del mar.

Academic Summer School Program June 29 to July 30, 2015

Summer School is open to any students in grades TK – 8th Grade. Our Summer School will concentrate on Reading and Math only. Summer School will run for 5 weeks, Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon beginning June 29 ending on July 30, 2015, (NO clas-ses on Fridays ). Morning Extended Day-Care: 6:45 – 9:00 a.m. at a cost of $3.00 per day. Cost: $25.00 Non- Refundable Registration Fee & $275.00 - 5 Week Ses-sion per student.

Summer Day Camp Program June 29, 2015 to July 30, 2015

Summer Camp is open to boys and girls ages 4-13. Our Summer Camp will consist of sports, games, arts & crafts and field trips on Fridays. Summer Camp will run for 5 weeks, Monday to Friday, 12 Noon to 3 p.m. (NO day camp on 3rd of July). Extended Day until 6:00 p.m. is FREE. Fridays are field trips and are an additional fee, depending on the location of the field trip. Cost: $25.00 Non Refundable-Registration Fee and $70 per week-1st child; $40 per week-additional children or $20 per day per student.
