WHERE WE LIVE, SERVE, & WALK TOGETHER IN FAITH.

A Prayer for Lent

O God, author of every mercy and of all goodness, who in fasting, prayer and almsgiving have shown us a remedy for sin, look graciously on this confession of our lowliness, that we, who are bowed down by our conscience, may always be lifted up by your mercy. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Like last week, we read of keeping God’s Commandments-—in particular, our obligations to God and others. How do the Commandments play a positive role in my life? Ask yourself these questions as well: In the “temple” of Christ’s body we experience newness. How can I participate in

worship in a way that makes God’s presence fresh and new? According to Saint Paul, God’s foolishness exceeds our wisdom, and God’s weakness is

greater than our strength. Taking this statement to mean, as the prophet Isaiah says of God, “So high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts,” how do I respect God’s differentness and make room in my life for God’s ways?

How can I “proclaim Christ crucified” in my own life? 1883-2018

ST. JOSEPH’S PAGE TWO

My Dear Parish Family, My congratulations and thanks go out to all the cast and crew, director and administration involved last weekend in the SJGS production of Lion King, Jr. The boys and girls did a great job, singing and acting their way through the whole production. The lessons of teamwork, leadership, discipline and practice will not be lost on these young ones. I encourage all of you who have yet to respond to the Diocesan Annual Catholic Appeal 2018 to say a prayer and then send in your appeal card with your pledge indicated. If we all participate, we will reach our goal and more. It was Ash Wednesday, Valentine’s Day this year, when yet another mass shooting took place in our country – this time in Florida. For the past couple weeks, debates are raging, politicians are politicizing, and citizens are wondering what to do after another senseless tragedy. Of course, everyone is trying to fix blame on to something or someone. What are we to do? In discussing this with a colleague of mine, she shared this: “When we pray the Lord's Prayer and say "Give us this day our daily bread" we are asking for whatever grace we need that day for whatever comes to us. Most days we don't have a clue as to what we will need during the day but God knows, so let us pray to be open to that grace—our daily bread.” At times we feel hopeless and sometimes think that our prayers and thoughts fall short of anything effective. Gospel singer, Mandisa Lynn Hundley shared this thought, “So we fight now with the weapon of prayer, knowing that prayer is not “all we can do,” but THE MOST we can do.” Join us Monday night, 7pm in the church for “The Most We Can Do - a Prayer for Peace.” Lastly, make sure to find some time March 9-10 to come to church for an hour, to have your confession heard and to spend some time in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. God bless you all. Father Scott

MENSAJE DEL PARROCO

Querida familia parroquial,

¿Qué vamos a hacer?

Padre Scott
