STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

In today’s second reading, St. Paul reminds the Romans — and us — that all things come from God: “For from Him and through Him and for Him all things are.” Good stewards understand that all is a gift and share generously the gifts

of time, talent, and treasure with which they have been blessed.

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE September 9 The next IHM Red Cross Blood drive will be Wednes-day, September 9, 3:00-8:00 p.m. Sign up at redcrossblood.org. The sponsor code is: ihm. Slots are filling up fast, so take action now to reserve a time con-venient for you. Contact Nikki VanDerGrinten at 770-986-4996 for assistance if needed. Strict Covid proto-cols will be observed. Free Covid antibody testing will be done on all donations.

The August 4 blood drive was very successful. We met our goal of 45 units. Thanks to all who made this possible!

FOOD DRIVE This Weekend IHM’s St Vincent de Paul Society hosts their bi-annual food drive this weekend. Please bring your canned or boxed donations to Mass and drop it off at the SVDP truck parked in the upper parking lot. An SVDP member will be there to collect the items 20 minutes before and after each Saturday mass and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Items of particular need include: Canned tuna, canned chicken, canned green beans, canned fruit, rice (no bigger than a 2 lb bag), canned beans, and canned soup.

ADDITIONAL MASS GUIDES NEEDED! August 25 There have been requests for us to resume an additional Sunday mass each week this fall. Before we can even consider doing that, we will need additional volun-teer Mass Guides, to ensure that the experience is orderly and safe for all. Those who have attended Mass in recent months know that we use 8 Mass Guides at eve-ry Mass, to greet, screen, usher and assist Mass-goers in observing the public health protocols in place at IHM. Orientation for new Mass Guides (and a refresh-er for current Mass Guides who would like it) will take place on Tuesday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the church. If you would be willing to assist us in this ministry, please contact Shelly White at [email protected]. Your parish family needs you and thanks you!

To the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Family:

In partnership with Rich Plachta, Business Manager, the Parish Fi-nance Council has prepared this update to keep you informed about the financial status of the parish. For this update, we are presenting comparison of the income and expenses for the Fourth Quarter of Fiscal Year 2019-2020 (April-June) vs. Fourth Quarter of Fiscal Year 2018-2019.

As everyone knows, the fourth quarter of this fiscal year was a most unusual and trying time for all. The impact of COVID 19 has yet to manifest fully, but the council and the staff are focused on seeing that the mission of IHM remains strong and viable. IHM parishioners are to be commended for providing the financial support to make this happen. Remarkably, the Offertory revenue exceeded that of last year, and the deficits from the Divine Playtime program and reduction in Faith Formation enrollment for the year were more than offset by generous donations. With live attendance at Mass being impossible for most of the quarter, it was encouraging to see that electronic giv-ing increased to more than 63% of total offertory. We thank you for your continued generosity and commitment to our parish and take the stewardship of these funds as our utmost responsibility.

Overall expenses for the Fourth Quarter were $486,799, which were $83,114 lower than the Fourth Quarter of the prior year. Most of this is attributable to a reduction in liturgical functions, deferment of Faith Formation sacramental rites and a savings of maintenance and utilities with the “shelter at home” order. There was also a significant savings from the LED light conversion project.

The second collection donations for the Parish Debt Reduction Fund amounted to $15,190 for the Quarter which, when combined with the prior quarters, allowed us to pay another $152,000 on the Church construction loan.

Once again, we thank you for your continued commitment to IHM. If you have any questions about this report, please do not hesitate to contact me, Rich Plachta or Monsignor Jowdy.

Yours truly, Brad Gifford, Chair, Immaculate Heart of Mary Finance Council

ENROLLMENT FOR 2020-2021 Enroll today! The youth ministry team is so looking forward to seeing our youth back in person at the beginning of Sep-tember! Though we know the world is a bit unpredictable right now, we also know that our faith is the rock we stand on, holding true to knowledge that with God our lives are better than without. We in the youth ministry are doing our best to be prepared to continue to lead and walk in faith with our teens this school year! Extra precautions are being put in place to ensure a safe and still friendly environment. All ses-sions will be conducted in a small group setting next year, allowing for more social distance and less exposure to others, online and in person options will be available. En-rollment for your middle or high schooler in our programs is open now for the up coming school year! Registration closes soon! Enroll online today: https://ihmatlanta.org/enrollment .

PARENT ZOOM MEETINGS August 30 This year in lieu of an Open House, we will be having several parent Zoom meetings! At these meetings on August 30, we will go over what our year will look like, some content, and general structure. Our meeting times are as follows:

10:00 a.m.- 10:20 a.m. for middle school (Edge)

10:40 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. high school (LifeTeen) first year Confirmation prep

3:30 p.m.- 4:15 p.m. for Confirmation (DP) second and immediate year of Confirmation prep

The Zoom meetings link will be emailed to all the parents who have registered their teens. If you have any questions please email Michele McPheely.

YOUTH GROUP VOLUNTEERS We are all called to share God's word, called to make disci-ples. The youth group is calling all people who love teens, all parents of teens, and who love God! Our youth group is in need of several more volunteers, who would be willing to give a little bit of their time weekly (or bi-weekly) to spend in fellowship with our teens! This can be done in person or online! You don't need to know the Bible or the catechism backward and forward, you just need to care about the teens and share your love of God with them! There are many ways to be involved, and if you are interested or know someone who you think would be awesome, please reach out to Michele McPheely [email protected].

FACE MASKS We're back in stock, but with limited supply! Don't miss out! Place your or-der on-line today! Your purchase sup-ports the high school Summer Mission Trip. Upon completion of your pur-chase, masks will be available for you to pick up at the Historic Church when you check-in for Mass on the weekend. The masks are reusa-ble-2-ply masks made from 100% US cotton and are washa-ble for many uses and breathable. Two strings tie in the back of the head for easy adjustment.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEWLY-CONFIRMED! The last two weekends, our teens received their long-awaited Confirmation! We in youth ministry are so excited and proud of you all for your faith, patience and perseverance! Never forget God is always with you and always loves you!
