The Family of Faith campaign will be issuing
2018 tax receipts for Family of Faith donations
by the end of February 2019. Most gifts to the
campaign have been in the form of pledges,
payable over five years. Tax receipts will be
issued for the value of gift amounts received in
2018, through Monday December 31st, 2018.

campaign. To help ensure our parish benefits from your help on
a timely basis, please make sure your payment information is

REFLECTION
Many Catholic Christians are under the false impression that
the morality the Church proclaims, is reducible to the Ten
Commandments. However, those Ten Commandments are all
about NO; NO to committing various sins. While it is good to
avoid those sins listed in the Ten Commandments, many
Catholic Christians are again under the false impression that
our faith is about a colossal NO: “no you can’t do this” or “no
you can’t do that.”
This is a wrong view of our Catholic Christian faith. Before
we say NO to sin, we MUST say YES to Christ. The Church’s
morality, then, is reducible to Christ. He is our model of
Christian living.
Mark Hart in his book, Blessed are the Bored in Spirit. A
Young Catholic’s Search for Meaning, gives us some
examples of those YES Commandments.
The Commandments The Life in Christ You shall not: You shall:
…have other gods …be single-hearted
before Me. toward Me.
…take the Lord’s …be reverent in speech
name in vain. and conduct.
…dishonor the sabbath …keep priorities
day
…dishonor your father …be respectful and
and mother. obedient.

womb to the tomb.
…commit adultery …be faithful to vocation
or future spouse.
…steal …be trustworthy.
…bear false witness …be honest in word
and deed.
…covet your neighbour’s …have only pure
spouse (lust). admiration.
…covet your neighbour’s …be grateful for what
material goods. you possess.
As Mark Hart himself wrote, “Many assume that our
(Catholic faith) is about rules, conformity and some sort of
guilt-ridden mind control. The doctrines of Christ,
safeguarded by the Catholic Church, are dismissed as
contrary to human freedom. In this context, obedience is
seen as a form of weakness, By extension, that would make
Jesus the weakest man ever to walk the planet. Living a
faith-filled life is not so much about what we should not do
but what we are called to do as we move forward in God’s
love.”
Due to the many misconceptions regarding the Catholic
Church and marriage, please note that a Catholic may marry
a non-Catholic in the Catholic Church, without his or her
conversion to the faith. In some instances, a person, who has
been previously married, can also be married in the Catholic
Church after consultation with the priest. If as a Catholic
you’re married outside of the Catholic Church without the
permission of the Church, we respectfully ask that you
refrain from receiving the Eucharist until your marriage has
been validated (“sacramentalized”) by a Catholic priest or
deacon. To remedy this situation, please call one of the
priests to make an appointment to have your marriage
validated. We are only too happy to bring back to the couple,
the graces necessary to live out their marriage, and to
reconcile them with the graces of the Eucharist.
MARRIAGE & COMMUNION
Living the Gospel by supporting those with infirmities
Florence slipped on an icy sidewalk, fracturing her right hip and
breaking her thigh bone and ankle. Due to the cost of physical
therapy, she was worried she would never walk again. Her
doctor referred her to LA Centre for Active Living, a ShareLife-
funded agency. Within a week, Florence began participating in
the centre’s free health and fitness classes. In just six months,
she progressed from needing a wheelchair, to using a walker,
and finally to walking independently.
Your generosity helped Florence to regain her health. Thank
