Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is a supportive Christ-centred community, equipping each student for life.
Message from the Interim Principal Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never
hurt me! How far from the truth this statement is! Yes, sticks
and stones can break bones, however, words are powerful
and can certainly harm. Our tongues, even though they are
only a small part of the body, have the power to destroy and
the power to build.
Yehuda Berg says that “Words are singularly the most power-
ful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this
force constructively with words of encouragement, or
destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate
and to humble.” (from the Huffington Post; The Power of spoken Words)
We must therefore discipline ourselves always to always speak in a way which
conveys respect, gentleness and humility. One of the hardest things to do at
times when feelings run high is to stop, take the time to think before speaking
(what we will say and how we will say it), whilst also contemplating the
impact of the words to the listeners. Always speak with kindness,
encouragement, inspiration and enthusiasm. This is how we are encouraging
our children here at school to speak. Speak the truth at all times, and do not
use words to manipulate others, insult them or belittle anyone. Our words also
need to align with the tone of our voice, expressions and body language.
Words can be either ‘bullets’ or ‘seeds’. If we use our words as bullets, there is
the feeling of superiority and condemnation, and we will not be building
positive relationships, but rather, destroying value, relationships, trust, and
perhaps, ultimately, the life of another human. If we use our words as seeds,
showing support and respect to the listener, positive relationships are built.
Relationships are built on trust, respect and gratitude.
Lord, I pray that you would help me to control my tongue; only ever speak
kindly to others and to show respect whenever I open my mouth. Help my
actions to match my words. Help me to be a good example to others and to
encourage others to do the same. Amen.
I love reading the book of Proverbs in the Bible. This is the book of wisdom!
The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings
healing. Proverbs 12:18
He who restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a
man of understanding. Proverbs 17:27
He who guards his mouth and his tongue, guards his soul from troubles.
Proverbs 21:23
James 3:9 tells us that with it (tongue) we bless our Lord and Father, and with
it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God.
Blessings on your week,
Sue Beelitz
Interim Principal

Corner of Peace
We often have a heavy, much valued and powerful or
influential responsibility we are proud of and want to keep it all to
ourselves, or perhaps feel that as our responsibility we need to do it
all ourselves. Perhaps we are a little afraid that if anyone else helps
with it that we might lose control, or that it might not get done, or
even that something will go terribly wrong. This is really, sad as we
lose the sense of caring and community, and can become isolated
or even burn out with the weight of it. This happens to the best of us,
and can happen at any age (even when we are children) right
though to old age.
God knows this and so, to encourage and assist us, he had Moses tell
us this story from His own personal experience: 17 Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves
out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God
be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to
him. 20 Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and
how they are to behave. 21 But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God,
trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands,
hundreds, fifties and tens. 22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have
them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will
make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. 23 If you do this and God so
commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.” 24 Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said.” Exodus 18:17-24(NIV)
God bless you all
