Congratulations to James Ellsworth and Illana Bowen who represented Adrian at the OSAA State Solo Championships. Congratulations also to the choral groups who received I - ratings (superior minus) at the Large group Cho-ral festival in April! Our spring concerts are set for Monday, May 13! K-5 is at 2 pm in the old high school gym followed by the middle and high school concert at 7 pm. It's not to late to start thinking about band for our incoming 5th graders. Keep your eye out for good deals on band instruments! If any community members have instruments you would like to donate to the Adrian Music Department, we would gladly accept them! Keep clipping those box tops! They really help add funds to our booster program! Keep making music! Mrs. VanCorbach Adrian Music Director

Adrian High School Students Win Again! For the second year in a row and the fifth time in the last eight

years, Adrian High School students travelled to Prairie City for the

High Desert League Academic Bowl (affectionately called the

“Brain Drain”) and came away winners. The Academic Bowl is

comprised of teams from schools in our High Desert League and each school can send up to two teams of six

members each. In the open round, teams are asked a series of multiple choice questions which they answer

at their table, and a table judge verifies the answers. Following the open round the top three teams advance to

the lightning round where they are asked a series of questions and students must ‘buzz’ in ‘Jeopardy’ style

with the correct answer. The high school team comprised of Cole Kennedy-Gooch, Clay Ready, Teanna

Pierce, Conley Martin, Stella Nichols and Toby Clow won the round, defeating the teams from Crane and

Prairie City.

As we wrap up this year, I want to encourage you to be looking at your goals for the future. What classes will be the best fit for you? Are you keeping up on your math skills and writing skills? Have you taken the SAT or the ACT? If you are wanting to take advance writing and math next year, have you arranged to take the COMPASS test? It is always nice to have a summer break! However, be proactive in your planning for the next year/s of high school and college. Continue to work on improving your learning skills and what you can do that will help you be successful in the next school year and the future. If you are planning on applying for scholarships, what have you done for community service? A lot of scholarships are looking for well rounded students. What does this mean? Students who have good grades, are involved in extra-curricular activities, gives back to their school and community, and takes on leadership positions within the school will find that they can earn a lot of money in scholarships. Community service that is over one hundred hours is BIG money and your summer break is the time to complete these hours. Speaking of hours, have you considered what you will be doing for your senior project and completing job shadows this summer? Check with Mr. Johnson to see what the requirements are and what you can be doing now. I hope you all have a wonderful break and enjoy your summer. Deidre Brown Academic Counselor

It has been another busy month for the Adrian FFA. Ten members had the opportunity to travel to Redmond, Oregon, for the 2019 Oregon FFA State Convention. We competed in Farm Business Manage-ment, Proficiency awards and Interviews, and gained community service, helping with the state food drive. Our FFA Chapter received many awards, including Sadey Speelmon winning state with her Home and Community Development Proficiency and our National Chapter Award receiving Gold; both of these awards will be competing at the National level this year. Adrian FFA also won the Superior Chapter Award for the activities we complete each year, and the 10 Plus 10 Membership Award for growing our membership. Sundee Speelmon retired as the 2018-2019 Oregon FFA State Reporter, and will be starting her education at Utah State University this fall studying Agriculture Communications and Graphic Design.

Soon after we returned, members trav-eled to Ontario to participate in the Shop Skills CDE. Our Beginning team took 3rd, and Kase Baker placed 5th in the Beginning Contest. We also had stu-dents teach lessons at the 2nd Grade Field Trip, Owyhee Field Days, and Agriculture in the Classroom Presentations in Adrian Elementary School. Our 2019-2020 Chapter Officer Elections took place on the April 15th. We are proud and excited to announce our new officer team! President - Claire Wagster, Vice President - Kenzie Sorrell, Secretary - Riley Bradford, Treasurer - Mesa Zimmerman, Reporter - Lizzie Morford, Sentinel - Gavin Bayes, Historian - Conley Martin. These officers were installed at our Adrian FFA Banquet on April 23rd, and we would like to thank everyone that supported our chapter as we recognized our achievements for the year. Thank you to everyone who supported us in our Spring Berry Sale Fundraiser; we hope you enjoy your berries this summer.

We would like to invite community mem-bers to the Adrian FFA Plant Sale, which will be taking place May 2nd - 4th in the Adrian Greenhouse. Money raised from this fundraiser will help members attend National FFA Convention and participate in various CDEs throughout the next year. FFA members, please remember to tell Miss Miller what market and breeding animals you are planning to exhibit at the 2019 Malheur County Fair. Also, deposits of $300 are due May 24th to the AHS Office for members going to National FFA Convention this fall.

Thank you! Claire Wagster Adrian FFA Chapter Reporter

Cafeteria Scoop

The end of the school year brings the expected joy of finishing another year, and perhaps some sadness at leaving behind a year filled with great experiences, teachers, and friends. Ready or not, the end of May is fast approaching and the kitchen staff will enjoy these last few weeks, serving students, staff and even a few community members.

As we finish out these last few weeks, we will be saying goodbye to our seniors; it is always sad to

see them go but on the other hand exciting to know they have many exciting adventures ahead. We love to see them come back to visit!! We appreciate the opportunity to serve your children healthy and balanced meals and look forward to seeing familiar as well as new faces in the fall.

School Breakfast is Cool! Every day is a perfect day for school breakfast!

As the summer approaches, kids are often more restless and distracted at school. You can help to make sure that their last weeks of school are productive by ensuring that they begin the day with a nutritious breakfast. Studies show a good breakfast makes kids more alert, less distractible and better behaved in school; it even improves their test scores!

Let us keep our students focused by making sure they begin every school day with a balanced meal at home or at the School Breakfast Program.

Have a great summer!! The Kitchen Staff: Julie Morton, Linda Dominquez, Denise Ashton, Virginia Stephen & Chancy Mullalley
