A FRANCISCAN PARISH FOR 151 YEARS! APRIL 1, 2018 EASTER SUNDAY P.O. BOX 98 • 3027 PEARL ST. • OLDENBURG, IN 47036 Fr. Carl's Thoughts & Reflections EASTER SUNDAY - April 1, 2018 A most Blessed and Happy Easter to all our parishioners on this beautiful day! May the Risen Lord bless you with joy and peace, as we celebrate His overcoming sin and death. This is the holiest day of the Church year, and it is for this that Jesus came into our world and became one of us. Let us celebrate all that Jesus has done for us and our loved ones. Our Gospel re- minds us that Mary Magdalene was the first to the empty tomb, and became the apostle to the apostles, telling them the good news of Jesus’ resurrection. Thanks to all who participated and ministered in any way during Holy Week: our Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Choir Members, Servers, Sacristans, Ushers, Music Ministers, Church Decorators, Fire Builders, Visitors, and Parishioners. It is our Holy Family Community working together that makes these celebrations possible and sources of grace for all of us. Congratulations to Madelyn and Ava Henry who received their First Communion at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night, and to their parents Brad and Miranda Henry. We also congratulate Wade Michael Enneking who was baptized on Palm Sunday, and his parents John and Emma (Beiser) Enneking. May they all continue to grow in God’s love and grace. Hopefully all our students and teachers had an enjoyable Spring Break, and are now ready to go back to school and studies, refreshed and eager to learn. Believe it or not, the teachers enjoy the Spring Break at least as much as the students do! I hope that all who were traveling at this time made it home safely. Now we begin the time of Mystagogia, the 50 days when we deepen our understanding and appreciation of Jesus’ sacrifice for us, and our call to deepen our commitment to following Jesus. This time is even longer than the season of Lent; we have more to celebrate! Next Sunday is designated “Divine Mercy Sunday,” and is a special day to celebrate God’s great mercy for us in Jesus. In our Gospel we hear of the Holy Spirit’s coming to the disciples on Pentecost and their receiving the power to bind and loose sin. We also read of Thomas’ doubting and then proclaiming his faith in Jesus, “My Lord and my God.” Have a Blessed Easter! F r .
