This week – bottles, bottles, bottles, please! We are aiming for 400 bottles for this most popular fundraiser! We are far short of our target but with your help and generosity we can make a resounding success of this stall. Can you donate an item for our Grand Draw Hamper? – Christmas pudding , mince pies, cranberry sauce, chocolates, nuts, brandy butter, or any other luxury Christmas item will be most welcome. We also need sweets. Mums and dads, why don’t you have a go at making some fudge or other sweets? It can be great fun and be a lovely addition to the Home Produce Stall. Thank you for your donations but, we still need helpers to set up on the Friday and help run the stalls on Saturday 24th November. If you can spare a few hours, please contact the office by phone (01883 343241) or by email on [email protected]
On Sunday, 14 October
2018 Archbishop Oscar
Romero, was proclaimed
a Saint along with Pope
Paul VI and 5 others.
Many parishioners will
remember the inspiring
performance of ‘Romero
– Heartbeat of El Salva-
dor’ by the Christian thea-
tre company RISE Thea-
tre, and hosted by the
Parish last year. It told
the true story of Oscar
Romero and his heart for
the oppressed people of
El Salvador. He chose to
challenge those in power
and stand up for social jus-
tice and demanded respect
for human rights and was
assassinated whilst saying
Mass on March 24th 1980.
Two national events are
being held to celebrate his
canonization: Saturday, 3
November at 12.30pm
Mass of Thanksgiving St
George's Cathedral, South-
wark, Principal celebrant:

CAFOD’s mission is to work,
on our behalf, alongside
the world’s poorest people.
At times of crisis, CAFOD
supports local organisation
who can act fast, providing
food, water and shelter for
people who have lost eve-
rything. It is there in the
months and years that fol-
low too, helping to rebuild
their lives and prepare for
whatever the future holds.
CAFOD also works to equip
people with skills and oppor-
tunities to live with dignity,
support their families and
give something back to their
communities. As a member
of Caritas International, a
group of over 160 Catholic
agencies from around the
world, known as ‘the helping
hand of the Church’, CAFOD
works through the local
Church and can reach people
and places that others can’t.
The CAFOD Harvest Fast Day
collection will take place
next Sunday 28th October.
We are asked to replace a
usual main meal by a simple
alternative and to donate
the proceeds to this worthy
charity in support of the
world’s poorest people.

Our monthly Parish Youth Club (for 7-11-year-olds) needs a new co-ordinating team.
If volunteers come forward now, they can work with the current team who are stepping down next summer to concentrate on
building a programme for the growing monthly Parish Chill Club for older children (aged 11-15), which they also run.
The existing co-ordinators have established a replicable 4-year programme of exciting activities and an email database to make the
handover of Youth Club as easy as possible.
Everything is currently booked by one person but it could be shared between a team who each take responsibility for a few sessions
each throughout the year.
The Youth Club has become very active and popular over recent years - we now have 100 registered members - so it would be great
if we could keep the momentum going. It would be a shame for it to have to stop next July if no-one comes forward.
