Jane, Lloyd & Sam will tell ‘brief’ stories they have heard from our parents. In this ‘rear view mirror’ presentation, we are not focusing on Lloyd & Sara’s grandchildren. Dad’s parents: David and Emma Bare Weaver

Our Weaver family came to America in about 1717. Three brothers George, Jacob and Henry came and settled near what is now known as Weaverland. The family originated in Switzerland, as Anabaptists, and came to Pennsylvania via Germany and Holland. A cemetery on the original 1,000 acre land at Weaverland contains some memorial stones as seen in the next pictures:

We follow in this linage. Some of us remember Lloyd’s rather colorful siblings. There were four boys and one sister. Here they are with their spouses and parents, DM and Emma Bare Weaver:

There is limited photography and stories from the Bare linage. The town of Bareville, PA was named for one of our ancestors who had an early tavern and ‘hotel’ there. This is a picture of 4 Bare-Weaver generations:

Sara’s middle

name was Stoner.

Sara used her initials, SSOW (Sara Stoner Oberholtzer Weaver) as her personal ‘slogan’ to be ‘Sara Serves Others Willingly’. The testimony that she had lived that way was included on the tombstone.

Their immigrant ancestors, beginning with Samuel and Christina Oberholtzer, also came from Switzerland in the 1700’s. The following picture is of a memorial stone which was erected when Sara Oberholtzer Weaver and a couple of her sisters renovated the old cemetery on the family farm. It appears this was the original Oberholtzer family farm:

Mom’s family consisted of seven girls and one boy who died as a child. Some of us remember the Oberholtzers, who had an annual reunion picnic. Here are several photos:

For many years, we siblings with Ron David and our spouses get together for 2-3 days each May. We eat, talk, and do some site seeing. Here we are last May while visiting the Shenandoah Valley Museum and historic gardens in Winchester:

Lloyd and Sara’s grandchildren are listed on your sheet, and hopefully many are here at Lindale today, May 15, 2010, so you may talk with them, rather than try to show them on the screen.

The last event with Lloyd, 2 years after Sara’s

death, was his 90th birthday, March 1992.Many of you were there. Can you find
