The Queen Victoria Hotel is the newest addition to
Newmark Hotel’s portfolio, which offers a myriad of ideally
located upmarket hotels, other accommodation options
and restaurants. What sets this unique five-star boutique
hotel apart is the attention to detail given by the creative
team responsible for its development, who achieved this
through their unwavering passion for awe-inspiring design.
From the creative brief of ‘where classic elegance meets
contemporary design’, every effort has been made to
ensure that the 35-room Queen Victoria Hotel is a haven
of calm, luxury and understated opulence amongst the
hustle and bustle of Cape Town’s popular V&A Waterfront.
The interiors create an ambience of peaceful elegance,
through the use of colours, marble-clad walls, crystal
chandeliers, white marble and wooden parquet
flooring, not to mention the triple-volume foyer with
its dramatic white spiral staircase, glass lift and crystal
chandeliers. The signature shade of deep purple has been
employed to add a touch of regal eccentricity as an
ode to the historic figure after whom the hotel is named.
With a management team and staff dedicated to making
every guest feel like royalty, a stay at the Queen Victoria
Hotel will certainly exceed your expectation of what five-star
luxury should be like.

An Ideal LocationWhat sets the Queen Victoria Hotel apart from other
hotels at the world-renowned V&A Waterfront is
undoubtedly its position. Located within a precinct of
heritage buildings along Portswood Road – a main artery
leading to and from the Waterfront – the Queen Victoria
Hotel gives you a sense of being within the Waterfront’s
vicinity but removed from the frenetic pace of it.
The advantage of this is that, while staying at the
Queen Victoria Hotel, you have easy access to the
Waterfront – the shopping precincts, the harbour, the
restaurants and other must-see attractions – yet you
are positioned away from it, in a relaxed, secluded
enclave that overlooks majestic Table Mountain, the
City Bowl, Cape Town Harbour and the Atlantic Ocean.
Situated next door to Dock House Boutique Hotel &
Spa, guests at the Queen Victoria Hotel have effortless
admission to the finest of Newmark Hotels’ portfolio:
The Spa and pool at Dock House Boutique Hotel,
breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Victoria & Alfred
Hotel’s fine-dining OYO Restaurant & Cocktail Bar, as
well as its conferencing and banqueting facility, The
Forum. All of these offerings are set in the most idyllic
locations within the Waterfront, and are on offer to
guests of the Queen Victoria Hotel in an attempt
to enhance their experience of ultimate luxury.

Comfort & StyleLuxury and sophistication emanate through all of the
rooms and suites, each one individually designed
with a consistent ambience of glamorous repose,
most with panoramic views of either Table Mountain
or Cape Town Harbour. The attention to detail is also
something to behold.
There are three types of suites catering to the different
needs and requirements of guests: Executive suite,
Mountain Junior suite and then there is the proverbial
jewel in the crown of the Queen Victoria – the
presidential suite, including a wrap-around balcony
with views overlooking Table Mountain and
the harbour, as well as a dining room and an
unconventionally large bathroom. This suite has been
designed in such a way that the flow of interior and
exterior space is ambiguous, with a double chaise
longue bed on the balcony that encourages guests
to linger longer and soak up the breathtaking scene
in front of them. In addition to the suites there is
one paraplegic luxury room and the balance of the
rooms are broken down into the classic , deluxe and
premium rooms - all fitted with high-tech amenities:
flat-screen TVs, wireless internet and unusual down
lighters and all bedding is made from four hundred
thread count pure Egyptian cotton.

Royal oasis in the heart of the V&A Waterfront

Dash is the restaurant and bar offering at
the Queen Victoria Hotel, named after the
Queen’s favourite pet. There is nothing cute
about this space, however on the contrary
it is the ultimate in sophisticated fine dining.
Pioneered by highly acclaimed executive
chef, Stephen Templeton, the 36-seat
Dash offers patrons an elegant yet relaxed
experience with a touch of drama in the
presentation of his well-crafted menu. Taking
his cue from the basis of all contemporary
cuisine, a classic French style, Stephen
focuses on the unique flavours of each
ingredient, which, except for the caviar, are
all sourced locally.
While Dash caters to guests of the Queen
Victoria Hotel, it is also a stand-alone
restaurant and bar that encourages patrons
from near and far to enjoy its delectable
cuisine. The bar is the perfect after-work
drinks venue, with an extensive selection of
single-malt whiskies and wines.
Fine Dining
-
The signature royal purple of the bar stools,
the gleaming mirror ceilings and double-
sided fireplace enhance the prevailing sense
of wonder, together with the panoramic
view in front of you. The menu at Dash is
concise and well priced, and changes every
few weeks when new ingredients become
available. Stephen and his team even went
the extra mile to source a home-grown 18
month mature cheddar cheese called the
Queen Victoria, which was sourced from a
local dairy in Prince Albert.
The interiors of Dash complement the
sense of drama Stephen achieves with the
contents of the uneven, oval-shaped plates.
The artwork is supplied by the Everard Read
Gallery across from the Portswood precinct
and every few months it is replaced with new
work by local artists. The parquet wooden
flooring, black leather seats, quirky black
Gregor Jenkin tables, and other-worldly
mirrored wall unite to create an intimate
and provocative space. Stephen believes
that going out to dine should be a formal
occasion and have a theatrical element to
it. Between the aesthetically pleasing dishes
he has created and the dramatic interiors of
Dash, this principle is expertly executed.
