A MOST GRIEVOUS ERROR

I am MASTER TIGRESS, and not “Tiger”

Credit goes to Ho Jian Kai for spotting this error

Page 2: a most grievous error

SOME MISCONCEPTIONS

“When there is no air resistance, they fall at the same speed”

This is incorrect. Speed is NOT constant. Only acceleration is constant.

SOME MISCONCEPTIONS

“When there is no air resistance, freefall is constant”

Be careful what you mean here. Velocity or displacement is NOT constant in freefall, only acceleration.

Page 4: a most grievous error

SOME MISCONCEPTIONS

“…drop at the same time”

This statement is unclear. Either say “they hit the ground at the same time”, or “at any one time, they have the same velocity and displacement”

Page 5: a most grievous error

SOME MISCONCEPTIONS

“Everything will fall at the same acceleration”

Avoid sweeping words like “everything”. In actuality, the acceleration is only approximately the same, and only for near the surface of the Earth. Further away from the surface (both above or underground), g will change significantly

SOME MISCONCEPTIONS

“Force / Gravity acting on them is the same”

This is a misconception. The gravitational force acting on Po is larger than the gravitational force acting on Shifu. It is only their acceleration which is the same. We will explore this further in the next topic.

SOME MISCONCEPTIONS

“Mantis is wrong because he has a smaller brain”

Actually, insects (arthropods in general) have extremely complex brains for their size. Their brain complexity arises from twin parallel nerve cords which run through their entire body. (source: wikipedia)

SOME MISCONCEPTIONS

“Tiger is correct because I said so”

Marcarius said this. Please lynch him later for me.

HALF TIMEDropping Hammer and Feather on the Moon

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C5_dOEyAfk

There are conspiracy theorists who believed that the Moon Landing was just cold war propaganda. This video is often cited as evidence that the Moon Landing was not a hoax.

PREVIOUSLY

You have filled out the exit card in the previous lesson

All of you have indicated what you would like to know more about. Some of these will be covered in future lessons

The rest will be covered in the following slides.

To assist us to answer your questions, we have requested the assistance of one most wise….

MASTER OOGWAY REPLIES TO QUESTIONS FROM 3E

Did you know that “KAMEHAMEHA” means

“THE WAVE OF DESTRUCTION FROM

THE TURTLE”

YOU HAVE ASKED…I would like to

know more about Galileo’s Discovery

Before Galileo, it was previously believed that

heavier objects fall faster (from Aristotle). Legend has it that Galileo dropped two balls of

different mass from the Leaning Tower of Pisa which

landed at the same time, proving Aristotle wrong.

However, many historians now believe that Galileo never actually performed this

experiment. (source: wikipedia)

YOU HAVE ASKED…

Why Mr Wong keep giving us

cartoons?

“My method is to take the utmost

trouble to find the right thing to say,

and then say it with the utmost levity” – George Bernard Shaw

Page 15: a most grievous error

YOU HAVE ASKED…Why 10ms-2 is

used for O levels while 9.81ms-2 is used for A levels?

Because Cambridge thinks you

can’t handle the truth.

Page 16: a most grievous error

YOU HAVE ASKED…

Qn: What is the g on the moon?

Ans: one-sixth that of Earth

Why is acceleration of

free fall constant?

It has something to do with the

fact that it is the same one Earth

exerting gravitational

force. You will learn more in A

Levels.

Page 17: a most grievous error

YOU HAVE ASKED…Why does Mr

Wong use Kung Fu Panda

characters

Even the dragon

warrior stood atop the

shoulders of giants

Page 18: a most grievous error

YOU HAVE ASKED…Why about

velocity and acceleration upon

hitting the ground?

For a few milliseconds, the

object would undergo sudden

and sharp deceleration (i.e.

negative acceleration).

Page 19: a most grievous error

YOU HAVE ASKED…

I would like to know more about Morgan Freeman

Youtube “How God Of War Should Have Ended” and satisfy your curiosity.

Page 20: a most grievous error

YOU HAVE ASKED…I want to learn more Physics! Cheesy! Fail

Cheese. [Diagram of Cheese]

Might you need some medication, Macarius?

Page 21: a most grievous error

YOU HAVE ASKED…I would like to

know more about EVERYTHING /

ALL OF IT

Child. Seek not knowledge for

knowledge’s sake, but for improving the lives of those around you. Also,

YOLO!!

Page 22: a most grievous error

YOU HAVE ASKED…Does Mr Wong prefer Harry

Potter to Kung Fu Panda?

Too much hair in hairy

potter’s clay, brittle china

make.

YOU HAVE ASKED

I would like to learn more about Kung Fu Panda

If Akaash displays

tremendous skill when fighting

his classmates, then we will

obtain Kung Fu Panday
