Summer has finally arrived!
It’s time to whip out the BBQs and jet off on holiday for some well-deserved
relaxation on the beach. However, for many of us, summer also brings the
temptations of ice cream, overdoing the tan and forgetting the summer diet
and exercise.
Here are the top 3 tips for a healthy summer…
1. Always apply suncream
It is important to use a suncream lotion of at least SPF 30 in order to
protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
2. Drink plenty of water During the hot summer months, heat and
sweat can leave your body dehydrated. A lack of water is harmful to
your body and can also make you crave food when you’re not
actually hungry.
3. Beware of ‘healthy’ smoothies
Fruit smoothies are a great way to get your five-a-day and keep
refreshed throughout the summer, but watch out for smoothies made
with frozen yoghurts or ice cream as they can be extremely calorific.

Hello friends, and welcome to summertime – barbecues, beaches, outdoor
concerts, fairs…it feels like of all the seasons, this one goes by the quickest.
Before we even get to June, the weekends on the calendar for July and August
seem to be completely filled up. And the calendars at our homes are no exception. Everyone is
getting into the act. In the Adirondack region, we’re welcoming more new homes to the Centers
family and hosting a number of Farmers’ Markets that attract hundreds of people from all over the
area. Many of our Centers facilities are planning community carnivals, participating in their local
Independence Day parades, arranging trips to local fairs and events, and doing all manner of
planning to ensure that our residents have a full summer filled with priceless opportunities to
create memories that will last forever. And looking at some of those calendars (you can review
specific facility calendars on our web site) reminded me again of what an outstanding staff we
have at Centers Health Care. Whether it’s nursing, maintenance or any other team, we have such
a dedicated group, but today I want to write in particular about our recreation teams.
In more than thirty years in the skilled nursing industry, I haven’t found any other group that offers
a more complete, or more vibrant schedule of activities than the dedicated activities teams at
Centers. These men and women make sure that there are things happening every single day, and
weekends are no exception. And while bingo is always popular, these teams do so much more.
On a recent series of visits, I saw residents baking cookies and bread, planting herb and
vegetable gardens, bowling, taking classes in painting and drawing, and one of my favorites was
witnessing the music program at Martine Center. It was such a wonderful blend of therapeutic
recreation, education, and just plain fun. Our residents were thoroughly engaged in playing
instruments and even making recordings in Martine’s music studio. Whatever facility you visit, you
find something new and different, from our model railroaders and Red Hat Society members in
Warren Center, to the talented artists at Hope Center whose work has toured through New York
City, to the sewing circles, campfire nights and Casino Nights at Deptford Center, the Activities
teams at Centers Health Care are the best, and I want to thank them
for all they do.

Putting a new look on an old friend.
Many of our readers know that the Centers Health Care family started with a small skilled nursing
facility in the Bronx, the Williamsbridge Manor Nursing Home on Tomlinson Avenue. Williamsbridge
Manor is a regular on the Medicare.gov list of 5-Star facilities, and now we’re happy to say that our
very first facility is getting a 5-Star renovation to go with the outstanding level of care, rehabilitation
and lifestyle they provide to their residents.
“It’s been a long time coming and I’m so excited that the time is right for us to remodel
Williamsbridge” said Kenny Rozenberg, CEO of Centers Health Care. “To say that Williamsbridge
occupies a special place in my heart is a bit of an understatement. This was the first home in what
has become one of the largest post-acute health care continuums in the entire northeast and believe
me, we never expected that. I was the administrator here back in 1996, and we just wanted to deliver
good care.”
The facility’s current administrator, Henry Heinemann, is just as excited. “Being named the
administrator of a facility that has so much history with the Centers Health Care family gave me some
very big shoes to fill. We have a great team here and a really special community of residents and this
is all being done for them. They deserve the best and we’re giving it to them.”
The extensive renovation has already begun, and is expected to be completed in the fall.
The excitement of the “all new” Williamsbridge Manor begins at the curb and goes through the whole
facility. When completed, our residents will a have newly landscaped lawn and patio area to enjoy in
the nice weather and our view from the street will be completely new. A brand new entrance reflects
the Centers Health Care look, and inside the renovations include the lobby and hallways, and
upgrades continue into every resident room. Every resident room is being done over and each will be
finished with new wall-coverings and furnishings and state of the art, proprietary lighting technology
that allows residents to control the brightness in their rooms remotely. A brand new physical therapy
suite, dining room, activities center and offices complete the project.
WIllimasbridge Manor will give the whole neighborhood a new look when its new façade graces Tomlinson Avenue.
