    1/1

A pump is discharging 0.012 m3/sec of water through 100 mm steel pipe. When the pressure on the

discharge side of the pump is 700 kPa, what pressure can e e!pected in the discharge pipe at a point "#0

m distant from the pump and #" m higher in ele$ation% &raw the h'draulic and energ' gradient. (se f )

    0.02".

A pump draws wter through a new 1"0 mm hori*ontal cast iron pipe 30 m long. +o the end of this pipe is

connected a 1"0 mm diameter $ertical riser pipe 3m long, the upper end of which proects 1.2 m elow the

water surface in the suppl' reser$oir. -f it is not permissile for the asolute pressure at the pump to drop

elow 3" kPa, determine the ma!imum discharge. eglect minor losses.

A concrete mi!er used in highwa' works is supplied with water at the rate of 0.0 li/sec through a 2" mm

diameter pipe 00 mm long. +he pond from which the water is taken is 10 m elow the point of deli$er'.

+he pipe discharges into a tank t atmospheric pressure. What horsepower must e furnished to the pumpwhich forces the water through the pipe if the pump efficienc' is 0% (se f ) 0.02.

A centrifugal pump draws water through a 37" mm pipe from a reser$oir in which the water surface is 3m

lower than the pump and discharge through a 300 mm pipe. At a point in the discharge pipe 2.# m ao$e

the pump a pressure gage reads 20 kPa. When the discharge is 21" li/sec, the head lost in the suction

pipe is 0.1" m, the head lost in the discharge pipe etween pump and gage is 1.0" m and the power input

to the pump is 12# hp. &etermine the efficienc' of the pump.

A pump deli$ers water through a line of smooth pipe 1"0 mm diameter and 2#0 m long to a h'drant to

which is connected a line of cotton fire hose 0 mm diameter. +he hose is 0 m long and terminates in a

    no**le w/a tip diameter of 30 mm. +he no**le is at ele$ation 7." m higher than the pump. Assume a

pressure loss in the h'drant of 1# kPa. When the flow is 0.01 m3/sec, what pressure in kPa must e

maintained on the discharged side of the pump% (se f ) 0.02".

(sing the same data in Prolem ", if the pressure on the suction side of the pump in the 1"0 mm suction

pe is 0 kPa, what is the horsepower output of the pump% &raw the h'draulic and energ' gradients.

A pump draws water from a ri$er through a new 30 mm diameter cast iron pipe the entrance eing rounded

so that c ) 0.0. &etermine the gage pressure at a point in the suction line 2.# m ao$e the water le$el in

    the stream and 27 m from the entrance to the pipe when 4 ) 0.20 m3/sec. (se f ) 0.02"
