Let us Reflect... Today we prepare to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus. Isaiah reminds us of the suffering that Jesus will endure. He says Jesus will not be disgraced or put to shame, but we know that there will be humiliation at the hands of others. The psalm recalls the fear and sorrow as we repeat over and over Jesus' words of anguish and abandonment. Philippians describes Jesus' humility and the exaltation that will follow. But it is Mark who takes us through the last days of Jesus' life, the ordinary and the extraordinary. He describes the meal shared with the one who will betray him; his anguished prayers with friends who cannot stay awake and will later deny him; his treatment at the hands of priests, elders, soldiers; and finally his death and the recognition that truly Jesus is the Son of God.

PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD March 25, 2018

JMJ

March 25, 2018

My Dearest Parish Family,

God be with us always. A Blessed Passion and Palm Sunday to all.

“Many people find enough reason to live for love but very few find reason enough to die for it.” This quote or a paraphrase of it is something we might have heard or read somewhere and it must have struck a chord in our minds or hearts. It became a vivid recollection to me when I thought about the Blessed Week that is about to unfold before us that begins with Palm Sunday. It is ironic that what begins with a triumphant entry was punctuated by the Passion and Crucifixion but culminated in the Glory of the Resurrection – the Easter morn.

Our Lord Jesus Christ lived for love – His incarnation was the ultimate manifestation of God our Loving Father’s perfect compassion and mercy. The distillation of the Decalogue – the Ten Commandments into the two Greatest Commandment of Loving God above all and loving your neighbor as yourself was shown vividly and clearly in the three years of Jesus’ public ministry. The Paschal Mystery that will unfold in a liturgical dramatic ritual will clearly remind us that our history of salvation is a history of divine love. Our Lord Jesus indeed found reason to live, suffer and die ignominiously for love – all of humanity and creation.

This realization should challenge us to look into our how we live our lives and prayerfully ask ourselves: do I have reason enough to live for love and to I find reason enough to “die for it”? By dying – it is not the literal physical death that love demands but dying to ego, to selfishness, to hate, to resentment, to violence, to abuse, to greed . . . these among others that prevent us from being the best version of ourselves.

We need to make a renewal of the fundamental choice to adhere to the Gospel values. Our Liturgical celebrations this week allow us to enter into the

Paschal Mystery and allow it to sanctify and strengthen us with Divine grace and love. It gives us the strength to make an effort to live each day in honest and sincere efforts of loving one another, of being grateful for the blessings that abound and to be ready to make sacrifices so that divine love happens and is experienced especially by those in need.

Let us start from our families and allow it to form concentric circles to our parish family, our relatives, our friends, our workplaces, our schools, our community and eventually our country and world. It is ambitious but it is not impossible for all it took was the loving sacrifice of one Jesus Christ of Nazareth and the testimony of those He gathered to carry the Good News of Salvation to the corners of the world. We are now the new evangelizers – the stewards of the gift to be shared to all. God bless and take care.

Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

GOOD FRIDAY SPECIAL COLLECTION Christians around the world are united in a special way during Lent, Holy Week and Easter. Our hearts, minds and prayers are also especially aware of the Holy Land. Our parish, once a year on Good Friday, is called on to support Christians, the Living Stones of the Holy Land. Many Christians in the Holy Land depend on this collection for their well-being. As a pontifical collection requested by Pope Francis, the annual Good Friday Collection offers a direct link for parishioners to be witnesses of peace and to help protect the Holy Places. When you donate on Good Friday, you are also supporting Christians in the Holy Land. Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing and feeding the poor, providing religious formation and education, maintaining shrines and parishes, and conducting pastoral ministry. For more information, visit www.MyFranciscan.org. The Good Friday Collection is requested by the Holy Father. Please be as generous as your abundance allows.

CRAFTS FOR CHRIST

All knitters and crocheters are invited to join us from 2:00pm-4:00pm on March 27th (last Tuesday of each month). We make scarves, hats, blankets etc. for the military, the homeless and Obria. We welcome yarn donations suitable for our projects. For more information, please call Joyce 949-581-8418 .

WHAT IS DIVINE MERCY ? The Divine Mercy is not just about our devotion to God, it is about His love for us. God’s nature is love – a perfect love shared by the Persons of the Most Holy Trinity. Divine Mercy is the form God’s love takes when it flows from the Trinity to his creatures. Divine Mercy reveals itself when God, who is Love itself, love us. Celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy at our parish this year in any or all of the following:

1. Participate in Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, e.g., praying for the dead and feeding the hungry. The Divine Mercy team will host trips to the cemetery and orphanage. (Please flyer for details on venue/dates)

2. Attend the Divine Mercy Conference on Saturday, March 24, 2018. English session in the morning and Spanish session in the afternoon. Guest speakers: clergy from Prince of Peace Abbey and Fr Stephen Lesniewski

3. Novena starting Good Friday, March 30 until Saturday, April 7. English prayers at 8:30 am (after morning mass) and Spanish prayers at 7pm, both in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel

4. Holy Hour at 3:00pm on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 8 - Exposition, Adoration, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Divine Mercy Chaplet and Praises and Confessions will also take place in the church until 4:30 pm

“I demand of you deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. Even the strongest faith is of no avail without works (Faustina Diary,742).

Are you a Poet? Do you enjoy writing? If you would like to join a few other “would-be” scribes, this is your chance. With our focus on putting into verse our inner poetry and prayers, our

group will meet on the first Thursday (April 5th) each month at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall. The only requirements are that you enjoy writing, especially in verse (beginners are welcome), you are willing to share your work and you welcome charitable feedback. To express interest, contact:
