JMJ July 29, 2018

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. Belated Happy Feast Day of Santiago de Compostela! The actual date is July 25th and we celebrate it in a special way through our own Camino. We however celebrated it in a festive and meaningful way in our version of Camino de Santiago: “Along the Way” yesterday from the early hours before dusk to the Mass that culminated the pilgrim walk and prayer warriors experiences to the celebratory and fellowship lunch. We would like to express our congratulations and kudos to all who have laid the groundwork that we may be able to have this celebration of our Parish Patron Saint’s Feast Day. We extend felicitations to all who have participated and experienced a few hours of encounter with our Lord and with their fellow pilgrims. With the certificate that they received are my sincere prayers in their continuing journey as disciples and stewards of the message of faith, hope and love. Our parish continues to provide opportunities for the divine encounter to happen as we have the last presentation for the Backyard Theology on Monday. We would like to also acknowledge with grateful hearts all those who organize, facilitate and volunteer for this annual event. We look forward to the VBS (Vacation Bible School) on August 6 to 10. We end this month with a pastoral directive from our Bishop regarding a change in the liturgical posture after we chant or sing the Agnus Dei. In this issue of the Bulletin Deacon Dan Diesel wrote an explanation of the reasoning behind the change of posture. As a diocese we shall begin to implement this starting the first weekend of August. Speaking of continuing journey, we would like to sincerely thank Deacon Humberto Ramirez and his wife Julia for the years that they have served our parish as a deacon and a leader primarily in the

Spanish Masses and Hispanic Ministries. They have now been assigned to serve at the Basilica of San Juan Capistrano starting August 1st. In his place, Deacon Ricardo Barraza (please check the spelling and the correct name) will be serving with us our parish family. Our summers here at Santiago de Compostela are special because of the willing and loving hearts that continue to organize, prepare and facilitate meaningful and relevant activities that provide opportunities to deepen and strengthen our encounter with the Lord Jesus. These moments of grace move us to become truly messengers of faith, hope and love to a world that really needs it. We continue our journey knowing the Spirit is our constant companion. BUEN CAMINO! Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval JMJ

BUEN CAMINO! Con amor y mis oraciones,

P. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Posture Change at Mass

Beginning next week-end we will be changing our posture at Mass just before we receive Communion. Bishop Vann has requested that the faithful in all Parishes in the Diocese of Orange kneel at the end of the Lamb of God until we stand up to approach Communion. We then stand to receive Communion. After Communion we then kneel until the Blessed Sacrament is reposed in the tabernacle. Of course, this change would not apply to someone unable to kneel because of ill health, lack of space, or other just cause.

This posture change is in keeping with the directives in the General Instructions to the Roman Missal which is the "instruction" manual for how we celebrate Mass. These instructions are used throughout the world. The instructions regarding this state that the Congregation should "kneel after the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) unless the Diocesan Bishop determines otherwise." The instructions also state that "A common bodily posture, to be observed by all those taking part, is a sign of unity of the members of the Christian Community gathered together for the Sacred Liturgy for it expresses the intentions and spiritual attitude of the participants and also fosters them."

Kneeling is a sign of adoration as we recognize the real presence of Christ on the altar. Besides adoration, kneeling represents our humility and willingness to serve Jesus. As we heard in today's Gospel, let us recognize that Jesus is "truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the World."

Intenciones de Misas 2018

24 horas Exposición del Santísimo Sacramento

viernes 8am a sábado 8am Hora Santa viernes 7pm
