Once an an- nouncement was made that he needed a Microsoft Excel expert and I took the initiative and helped him out. Impressed with my proactiveness and expert- ise, he made me a part of his core team. Being a task- master, it wasn't easy working with Hamilton. But, today, at every step in my role as the leader of my team, I realised the impor- tance of whatever I have learnt from him. How often does he con- sult him for advice and he replies, “I consult him whenever I am stuck with choices - as to which road to take that will take me forward with minimum risks. Having ideas is one thing, executing them is an altogether different ball game and Fred is the one, who has always given me the right advice with ex- tremely logical and patient explanations. Six months ago, when I moved to this facility, I had no idea if we could manage the show as seamlessly as we did when we were not so big. He has been a powerful guiding force for my company. His leadership skills, his ability to inspire and motivate people, knowledge and un- derstanding of myriad top- ics as well as his ability to think big and think out-of- the-box are some of the qualities, which I truly ad- mire in him.” “Fred has always re- minded me to maintain a work-life balance. He be- lieves if you are successful at the cost of your personal life, you are not successful at all. And I completely agree with him; I try to leave office by 6 pm so I can spend some quality time with my family. There are times when I get blind- ed by my ambitions and unintentionally overlook my personal life but from nowhere Fred pops up in my mind to remind me that I have life beyond work,” adds Sarvaiya RIGHT SAID FRED

They aretransparent and have theability to carry peoplealong with them. Whetherleaders are born or made isdebatable. However, it ismore of an evolutionprocess and one has toconstantly evolve as aleader as the situation orenvironment changes, elseone would cease to be aleader.

I AM PASSIONATEABOUT…

…the kind of business weare into. I have seen mybusiness achieve greatmilestones and it is thegrowth and the respectthat renews my passion.

I BELIEVE IN GETTINGTHE RIGHT PEOPLE…

Hari Menon, CEO, Indi-aSkills had first met RajKalady, MD – PMI, India

when he joined Manipal Educa-tion in 2006. “My definition of a4 am friend would be someonewhom you can completely trustand expect support at all times. A4 am friend is there with you, es-pecially when you are down andout and you value his/her pres-ence the most during difficulttimes. We were colleagues andsimply clicked as friends within afew days of our meeting. Thereasons could be many; maybebecause we were both Malay-alees, we certainly had similarviews on many issues, could talkand laugh together for longhours and had some wonderfulcommon friends,” recalls

Menon.Does Menon consult him of-

ten and he says, “We stay intouch regularly - but that’s not asimportant as being available toeach other when we need it themost - and we both know that.”

Any impact Kalady’s had onhis personal and professional lifeand Menon elaborates, “Fromthe time we’ve met, he has al-ways been a great support to me.He has stood by me when thechips were down, especiallythrough a terrible personal trag-ic period I went through a fewyears ago. Our personal friend-ship has now resulted in somewonderful bonding amongst ourfamilies including spouses, ourkids, parents and extends to ourrelatives too.”
