A WOOF Guide to Dunwich HeathA precious landscape on the Suffolk coast

Dunwich Heath is an important nature reserve and is very popular with dogs and their families. This guide will help your owner understand how to make the most of your visit here today.

Dogs are welcome throughout Dunwich Heath; we even have a dog friendly area inside our tearoom. Look out for the free dog treats!

What should I do if I need the toilet?

Your owner should always use poop bags and dispose of them in the dog bins by Heath Barn, the beach path and on the ‘Woof’ walk.

What do I need to look out for?

Dunwich Heath is home to ticks so make sure your owner

checks you over when you get home. We have tick remover kits which your owner can use whilst still on site.

Be careful as adders live throughout the heath. If you get bitten go to the vet ASAP. We can help if your vet is too far away.

What if I get lost?

You should always have a collar with contact details on. Your owner should contact a member of the Dunwich team as soon as possible and they will help re-unite you.

Thank you for visiting Dunwich Heath. Your support helps us to keep the heath a special place for ever, for everyone.

Remember – dogs left in cars, even on a cool day, can die!

Where can I go?

At all times you need to be in sight and under control. Although dogs do behave most of the time you could be tempted to chase some of the birds and animals that are important here on the heath.

At certain times of the year you must be kept on a lead whilst on the heath – please look out for the signs. This is because many birds nest on the ground and heather – if you were to scare the birds away from their young the chicks may die.

There is a special ‘Woof’ walk for you to be off the lead all year; the beach is a lead free zone too.

For everyone’s enjoyment we do ask that you are on the lead in and around any building. There are secure dog lead clips on most buildings.

Where can I get a drink?

There are water bowls and taps around all buildings.
