Hello everyone.

I hope this finds everyone in good health. Right now ABATE of Florida Inc. Is losing membership across the board. If our chapter is going to continue we need to get our membership numbers up.

Please if everyone would email membership (and cc the newsletter trustee) and update you email address to receive the monthly newsletter.

Thank you all and I hope to see everyone at our next chapter meeting.

James Hanes Forest Chapter President.

Hey Everyone, Here is the “All-rider motorcycle helmet laws” section of alarger report sent out by the “Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety” or as they like to call themselves The “Advocates”. I have never heard of them and most of you probably never have either, so here is how they describe themselves. This group was started in 1989 and is based in Washington DC. I will keep my comments and interjections in red so it will not become confusing.

Proposed Bylaw #1

ARTICLE IV - MEMBERSHIP

E) Dues shall normally be twenty dollars ($20.00) for Annual Membership and sixhundred ($600.00) for Life membership.1) Chapters will submit ten dollars ($10.00) for Annual Membership and fourhundred {$400.00) for Life Membership to ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC.G) 1) Dues for At Large Membership shall be twenty dollars ($20.00) for annual orsix hundred ($600.00) for Life Membership, payable directly to ABATE OFFLORIDA, INC.

Proposed Bylaw #2

Per the ABATE By-laws, I'm writing 10 days in advance of the next state meeting to propose a By-law amendment. I propose that all membership monies {dues) collected go into the state treasury as opposed to the current division of monies between the chapter and the state office.

The current Article IV { Membership) E) 1) would be amended to read:

"Chapters will submit twenty dollars ($20) for annual membership and one hundred fifty dollars {$150) for Life Membership to ABATE of Florida, Inc."

My reasoning behind this proposal is that this change would bring an additional$30,000 {estimate based on 3000 annual members renewing at $20/year) into the state treasury per year . iven the condition of the state treasury, I believe that such a drastic change is warranted .The organization must have an economically viable state office to maintain influence. Finally, I know of at least one other state ABATE organization which directs all dues to the state treasury .

Respectfully submitted ,Moe Moser (Life Member) Southwest Chapter President

ABATE MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

When you become a member of ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC. you are helping make a difference in the ongoing mission to protect your right to ride and enjoy the motorcycle of your choice, your choice of riding apparel, and when and where you can ride a motorcycle. These are issues that are real and present in today’s “protect yourself from yourself” political environment. This holds true for all levels of government. There will always be those who see our love for motorcycling as a negative and will try any means to control and if possible prohibit motorcycle use.

On the local level our members get out the vote and support candidates who are sympathetic to our issues. We have helped candidates across the state who in some cases faced formidable opponents, yet still won. We also will endeavor to lobby local governments whenever there are issues that need to be addressed, affecting local motorcycle use, ownership, and any discrimination that may result from said use of ownership.

At the state level we have a paid registered lobbyist who regularly visits our state capital in Tallahassee to lobby our legislators on the issues concerning the motorcycling public in Florida. He also finds reliable House and Senate sponsors for the bills we support.

On the national level we are aligned with Motorcycle Riders Foundations (MRF), and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM), along with several other international motorcycle rights organizations (MRO’s).

As one can see we have our ear to the ground and our resolve tempered like steel. As Americans we have had it demonstrated to us time and again the vigilance is armor of free men and women. We shall not let the armor rust or weaken. With your support we can re-enforce and strengthen the armor for now and generations to come.

What else do you get with your membership?

All members receive with their paid membership, the Masterlink Newsletter, Membership Card, Event Discounts and Updates, Voting Privileges, Free Masterlink Classified Advertisements, a Chapter Newsletter, and a free $4,000 Accidental Death or Dismemberment Insurance Policy from the American Income Life Insurance Company (more information here).

Memberships are open to anyone 18 years of age or older, no matter what type of motorcycle you ride, if any at all!
