ABORIGINAL AUSTRALIAN CULTURE! The culture of Australia’s Aboriginal people is one of the oldest in the world – Aboriginal Australian Culture dates back more than 60,000 years! There are many archaeological sites throughout the country where the long history of Indigenous people can be found. These include rock art in caves as well as fossils from where Aboriginal people lived and shared their meals. These ‘rock art’ paintings and also engravings show the beings of ‘the Dreaming’ and they are sacred sites because they show just how long Aboriginal people have been living there. Dreaming stories pass on important knowledge, cultural values and belief systems to later generations. These stories are expressed through song, dance, painting and storytelling. Aborigines have maintained a link with the Dreaming from ancient times to today, creating a rich cultural heritage. Have a look at some of these Aboriginal Art paintings, often only done with paints and a stick to make dots…..Aboriginal Dot Painting.

These ‘rock art’ paintings and also engravings show the beings of ‘the Dreaming’ and they

are sacred sites because they show just how long Aboriginal people have been living there.

Dreaming stories pass on important knowledge, cultural values and belief systems to later generations. These stories are expressed through song, dance, painting and storytelling. Aborigines have maintained a link with the Dreaming from ancient times to today, creating a rich cultural heritage.

Have a look at some of these Aboriginal Art paintings, often only done with paints and a

stick to make dots…..Aboriginal Dot Painting.

As a person who has lived and taught in Australia I am fascinated by Aboriginal culture, in

particular their painting. Why don’t you give the Aboriginal Dot Painting a go……..use paper

with a dark background to get more effective results, if you have it. Instead of a stick, you

can use Johnsons Cotton Buds.

So, become a creative native and share a piece of culture from one of the oldest

civilizations on Earth.

We’d love to see your masterpieces on Dojo, so go ahead and post some for us.

Above is the Aboriginal Flag. Here is what it represents:

Black represents the indigenous people of Australia - The Aborigines.

Red represents the red earth, the red ochre used in ceremonies and Aboriginal peoples’

spiritual relationship with the land.

Yellow represents the Sun, the giver of life and protector.
