Mission Statement
Intercede International seeks to establish, encourage, and
strengthen an indigenous, New Testament witness for our
Lord Jesus Christ among all nations by providing material
and spiritual aid to Christians who are impoverished, few,
or persecuted; and to encourage Christian witness and
ministry to the international community in Canada.
One Body in Christ
Our Lord was born in Bethlehem and grew up in Nazareth.
There He was God living on earth in a human body. He
died for our sins, rose from the dead, and was exalted above
the heavens. Then the Lord sent His Holy Spirit to His
disciples and lived within them. God’s Word tells us that
all true believers “are one Body in Christ, and every one
members one of another” (Romans 12:5). “If one member
suffers, all suffer with it” (1 Corinthians 12:26). Intercede
International carries out its vision and programs by linking
God’s people in Canada with fellow believers in areas of
poverty and persecution.
About Intercede International
God raised up Intercede International to educate His people
in Canada about working alongside indigenous missions and
strategies for reaching the nations at home. It was started
in Canada in 1953 and has been responsible for informing
Christians about the new directions in foreign missions
methodologies.
Intercede International has practised fi nancial accountability
for more than half a century. It is governed by a responsible
board of business and professional leaders who subscribe
without reservation to Intercede’s Statement of Faith and
Missionary Principles. All accounts are audited annually by
an independent Chartered Accountant. Annual reports are
available upon request. Intercede is a certifi ed member of the
Canadian Centre for Christian Charities (CCCC) and
also of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC).

ABOUT INTERCEDE
INTERNATIONAL
In the early 1980s, Christ Evangelical Fellowship
Ministries began. Directed by James Cuffee, who came
to faith in Christ at a revival meeting in Monrovia
in 1975, CEFM has planted dozens of churches
throughout Liberia. Their 24 workers also care for
more than 60 orphaned and abandoned children,
Ebola survivors, and hundreds of displaced civil war
refugees. CEFM endeavours to reach the remaining
idol-worshipers in the hinterlands of Liberia and to take
the Gospel to areas dominated by Islam.
Islam is sweeping across
the continent of Africa,
armed with money and
resources to evangelize for
the sake of Allah. Well-built
and well-funded mosques,
as well as Islamic schools
and hospitals, are a common
sight. These beautiful
Islamic buildings stand in
stark contrast to the misery
and destruction left by 11 years of civil war, from
1989 till 1996 and then from 1993 till 2003. Is it any
wonder that an African would choose to believe in
Allah, if Allah will seem to provide them with large
and roomy buildings in which to worship him?
“Our focus is on the western, northern and
central parts of Liberia, which are dominated by
Islam,” explains Cuffee. “The three countries
that surround Liberia—Sierra Leone, Guinea and
Ivory Coast—are Muslim countries. As a result,
they have moved into Liberia very fast, and are
building schools, colleges and hospitals, taking care
of orphans and abandoned children, and giving
assistance to their Muslim brothers. If we don’t
do something now, they shall take over the entire
country of Liberia. That is why we are determined to
put our lives on the line for Christ’s sake to carry the
Good News to our people. Please pray for us, so that
the Lord’s name will be praised.”
No Roofs, No ElectricityIndigenous believers frequently worship our God
in buildings without roofs, electricity, or walls. They
even worship in the fi elds with no building structure
whatsoever. These men and women who worship
the One True God in spirit and truth represent the
majority of indigenous believers across the continent
of Africa. We, their brothers and sisters in Christ,
have an opportunity to generously fund buildings
where they can worship and honour our God.
Helping Displaced FamiliesThe civil war in Liberia displaced many families
from their homes. Gifts of Intercede donors are used
to minister to those who are near to their base of
operations and to those who are far. Already, more
than 3,475 persons, including family heads, refugees,
orphans, widows and the elderly have been direct
benefi ciaries.
The civil war also left many children abandoned,
deprived of their parents, and desperately needing
a safe home. CEFM nurtures abandoned children
and provides them with basic needs such as food
and clothing. They also teach them the love of Jesus
Christ. Gifts enable CEFM to reach more abandoned
children with the Gospel, so that they will have the
opportunity to know the true God, and not be swayed
by the Muslim outreach in their country.
The recent Liberian civil war and the Ebola
crisis have brought untold suffering to the lives of
Liberians. “The economics of the country have
completely broken down, leaving most of our people
suffering and without jobs,” reports Cuffee. “There
is little food. Many of the people have even died
from hunger. The years of civil war in our country
took more than 250,000 lives and destroyed millions
of dollars of property. Now, while we were praising
God for the brief moment of peace, here comes this
killer disease that’s destroying lives again.
“Therefore, upon receiving fi nancial support
for our ministry, we immediately began purchasing
some food items for the needy: elderly, Ebola
victims, and the orphans and abandoned children of
our ministry. Distribution was done in the villages.
The recipients were very happy and expressed their

thanks and appreciation to our donors, sponsors
and friends, as well to our ministry for the gesture.
The Lord will surely bless the givers. Thank God
for the support. We are proud of our donors.”
Crusades, Church-Planting“We are taking the initiative of reaching out with
the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” explains James Cuffee.
“We are reaching the Muslims with the Gospel. Our
vision is mostly to reach our people on a one-on-one
basis, with door-to-door evangelism. That is very
effective. We have been having crusades, revival
meetings, seminars. In one Muslim community,
35 Muslims got converted and gave their lives to
the Lord. But the problem that we face is: most of
these people when they come, their families reject
them, because they have changed their faith. So our
church and ministries look after their needs.”
CEFM missionaries often face many obstacles
in their crusade work. On one outreach trip to
Maryland and Grand Kru counties, missionaries
rented a vehicle that got stuck in the mud for nine
hours, at nighttime. They also ran out of food and
water that night. “But the Lord was with us, and we
got the vehicle out of the mud,” reported Cuffee. “We
arrived in Maryland. The saints were happy when
they saw us. During the revival meetings, 27 people
gave their lives to the Lord, and were baptized by
Pastor Cuffee, assisted by Elder Steven of CEFM.”
OMA ContainerIn October 2006, Intercede sent an Overseas
Material Aid shipping container to CEFM. When
the ministry received it, Cuffee wrote, “I write with
joy to report to you the arrival of the container on our
ministry compound. It was a great joy for our people.
Special thanks to the entire staff of Intercede, as well
as our donors and sponsors in Canada. May God
richly bless you all. Indeed you are brothers.”
On the container were needed supplies such as:
books, audio/video equipment, computers, a used
motorcycle, a large photocopy machine, one large
press, and eight sewing machines. The motorcycle
was given to CEFM missionary Rev. Nathaniel Doe,
who most of the time travels great distances into the
hinterland—up to 640 km—to preach the Gospel.
CEFM is using the sewing machines for vocational
training for young women.
Mobile Assistance, CEFM Health TeamWith the help of a vehicle provided by God
through Intercede, CEFM has started a mobile
health team. Five nurses travel to displaced refugee
camps and villages in rural Liberia. There, they
provide treatment to orphans, abandoned, elderly,
widows, infants and child-bearing mothers.
Many of the cases treated are malaria, stomach
pain, fever, diarrhea, and high blood pressure.
Emergency cases that cannot be handled by the
nurses are quickly transferred to the hospital for
medical doctor intervention. The benefi ciaries are
truly appreciative of the care in taking medication
to them for saving lives. Intercede and its supporters
have also helped CEFM to set up a 10-room
Medical Clinic in the village of Kpanjah.
Biggest Challenges Facing CEFMCEFM needs bicycles and a jeep to do follow-up
work in the countryside of Liberia. “Another thing
we need is homes,” reports Cuffee. “Because of the
war, most of the people left their homes. There are
a lot of homes destroyed.” Most of CEFM’s pastors
and missionaries were displaced because of the war.
How You Can HelpPray for this ministry as its missionaries and
pastors bring the message of God’s power to the
idol-worshipers and Muslims of West Africa.
Missionary and child sponsorship are available
with CEFM. Your prayers and gifts will help and
encourage RGM missionaries and children in their
care. Please contact the Intercede offi ce for details.
Gifts to CEFM enable their workers to share
the Gospel while meeting the practical needs of the
people: food, water, clothing and materials for a
simple building. CEFM runs three schools, and also
needs buildings for them. God bless you as you keep
this ministry in your prayers.
