On May 9, Rock N’ Ribs, a BBQ restaurant, opened its doors. North Barrington resi-dents Alice and Terry Banach own the restaurant located at 463 S. Rand Road in Lake Zurich. Alice makes everything on the menu from scratch, right down to the eight gallons of BBQ sauce that is made every day. After winning a few contests for her BBQ, friends encouraged her to open a restaurant. “After winning one of the competitions, it really made me think that I had a shot at this,” said Alice. Feeling that there was no place to go for good BBQ in the area, Alice decided to open a restaurant with that style of food in mind. The theme came from Alice’s love of rock 'n' roll. Her collection of rock 'n' roll albums can be seen adorning the red walls of the restaurant. In keeping with the rock music theme, music videos from the '60s to today play on the TV screens. Alice watched 1,200 videos to pick ones that were family friendly. The space was designed by Alice and constructed by her husband Terry. Everything is clean and organized, something that was important to Alice. “I wanted to have a place that people could eat and stay awhile because the space looked presentable.” Everything seen in the space, down to the phone charger bank on the wall, was thought out. “I picked things to have here that I would want to see in a restaurant.” For more information, call 847-847-1690, or visit www.rocknribsbbqlz.com.

Relax. This word is hanging on the wall of the newly opened Barrington Day Spa and Salon located at 337 West Main Street, something that owner Lisa Hoffmann hopes that many will come there to do. “I wanted to open an all encompassing salon where people could come to relax and have more than one service available to them.” The interior provides a traditional comfort feeling, almost as if you are sitting in your own living room. The building has 11 rooms that hold a manicure/pedicure area, spray tan machine, hair styling area, an infrared sauna, massage table, and more. Hoffmann is also the only owner in the Midwest of a machine called the Relaxation Spa Capsule, a de-stressing device that provides dry hydrotherapy and hydro massage. Hoffmann is a big fan of “going green” so many of the products the salon carries are in recyclable con-tainers and are made of almost 100 percent natural ingredients. The staff is comprised of two hair stylists, two manicure/pedicurists, and two estheticians. For more informa-tion on services offered, call 224-655-7379, or visit www.thebarringtondayspa.com.
