Jack Ingram “Midnight Motel”. Rounder 2016. Jack Owen Ingram es un artista estadounidense de música country Ha publicado ocho álbumes de estudio, un álbum de recopilación, seis discos en directo y 18 singles. Aunque Ingram se dio a conocer profesionalmente en 1992, no alcanzó el Top 40 de las listas de country de Billboard hasta que apareció su single "Wherever You Are" a finales de 2005. Desde entonces no ha parado de conseguir éxitos y colocarlos en las listas de mas prestigio de los Estados Unidos con temas como “How Many Days” que llegó al número 64 en 1999, “Wherever You Are” que llegó a alcanzar el número 1 durante el año 2005, “Love You” que ocupó el número 12 de Billboard, “Lips Of An Angel” que llegó al número 16, y así sucesivamente han ido llegando sus éxitos hasta el año 2010 que consiguió entrar en el puesto 56 con la canción “Barbie Doll”. Ahora nos llega este último trabajo con canciones en su más puro estilo de country moderno y neo folk, donde cuenta esas historias tan características del día a día que Jack sabe describir como cualquier story teller que se precie. El disco contiene un libreto con las letras de cada una de las canciones que entusiasmará a todos sus fans y admiradores. MUY BUENO. Jack Owen Ingram is an American country music artist who has released eight studio albums, one compilation, six live ones and eighteen singles. Although Ingram became professionally known in 1992, he did not reach Billboard Top 40 country lists until the end of 2005, and he did it with his single "Wherever You Are". Since then on he has got an endless success which has driven him to regularly appear in the most prestigious USA top lists with songs like "How Many Days" which reached number 64 in 1999, "Wherever You Are" which got number 1 in year 2005, "Love You" that was number 12 in Billboard Top Chart, "Lips Of An Angel" which was number 16, and so on have come his song hits until year 2010 his name appeared in number 56 with the song "Barbie Doll". Now here comes his latest album with different tunes performed in the most genuine actual country and neo folk styles, with those day to day characteristic stories Jack knows to explain us as a real story teller. Dwight Yoakam “Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars…”. Rounder 2016. Formidable este nuevo trabajo del cantante, compositor, actor y guitarrista de country and western Dwight Yoakam, quien inició su carrera a mediados de los años ochenta. El hombre en cuestión es una auténtica leyenda moderna de la música country, pues Dwight lleva publicados más de veinte álbumes, contando los que ha grabado en estudio y los recopilatorios. A lo largo de su carrera ha colocado más de treinta y nueve canciones en las listas de música country de los Estado Unidos empezando por “Honky Tonk Man” que llegó hasta el número 3 en el año 86, al que le siguieron otros éxitos como “Guitars, Cadillacs”, “It Won’t Hurt”, “Little Sister”, “Little Ways”, “Please Please Baby”, “Always Late With Your Kisses”, “Streets Of Backersfield” o “I Sang Dixie” llegando éstas dos últimas al número 1 de las listas de country and western de la revista Billboard, publicación de referencia sobre los mayores éxitos de ventas. Su más reciente entrada en las listas fue “Blame The Vain” que llegó al número 58. Here comes an excellent new work by actor, country & western singer, guitarist and composer Dwight Macdonald, who began his career in the middle of the 80’s. This man is a real modern legend of country music, as he has published more than twenty albums, counting the ones he has recorded in studio and the compilation ones. Along his career he has placed more than thirty-nine songs in USA country charts, starting with "Honky Tonk Man" which reached number 3 in year 86, that was followed by other hits like "Guitars, Cadillacs", "It Won't Hurt", "Little Sister", "Little Ways", "Please, Please Baby", "Always Late With Your Kisses", "Streets Of Backersfield" or "I Sang Dixie", these last two ones reached number 1 in Billboard Magazine country and western charts, the reference lists in sales figures. His most recent entry in the lists was "Blame the Vain" which reached number 58. This new work puts Dwight Yoakam back in country music front line, with a series of well performed songs, where fans wearing boots and Texas hats will surely enjoy. VERY GOOD.

Dentro del género country Brian Sutton es probablemente el guitarrista acústico de su generación que, en los últimos años más premios y galardones ha recibido. Sutton es un guitarrista elegante y con muchos matices, su estilo tocando bluegrass con la técnica del fingerpicking es simplemente de una belleza cristalina digna de ser escuchada y gozada, una fuente de sutil belleza armónica para los oídos. En Nashville Brian es toda una institución y su guitarra ha sido reclamada en muchas ocasiones como músico de estudio y sideman. Hombre tranquilo y de enorme profesionalidad, en este nuevo álbum Brian Sutton pasea su country y su bluegrass con enorme gusto y sensibilidad a lo largo de las trece canciones, respaldado en todo momento por una pléyade de músicos de primera fila francamente envidiable en el género de la música country como son entre otros Mike Barnett al fiddle, Casey Campbell a la mandolina o Noam Pikelny al banjo. Un disco de country y bluegrass para disfrutar placidamente en el porche de tu casa de campo durante la puesta de sol de un atardecer cualquiera. MUY BUENO. Sutton is a guitarist gifted with a fine elegance filled with a variety of nuances. His style when he plays bluegrass using fingerpicking technique has a crystal beauty, a source of a subtle harmonic beauty, worthy to be heard and enjoyed. In Nashville area Brian is an institution and his guitar has been often requested as a studio musician or sideman. He is a quiet very professional artist and in this new album Brian Sutton brings us his country and bluegrass music with great taste and tenderness along the thirteen songs included, backed by an enviable bunch of first class musicians all them experts in country music, like Mike Barnet on fiddle, Casey Campbell on mandolin and Noam Pikelny on banjo among others. norteamericano conocido por sus trabajos con artistas como Eric Clapton o Roger Waters entre muchos otros. Doyle es hijo del batería y compositor Doyle Bramhall quien militó en las bandas de Lightnin’ Hopkins o Freddie King. En lugar de usar después de su nombre el clásico Jr., Doyle prefiere ser mas original y usar Doyle Bramhall II. A los 18 años realizó una gira con los Fabulous Thunderbirds y, dos años más tarde, fundó el grupo Arc Angels, junto a Charlie Sexton y los miembros de la sección rítmica de Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chris Layton y Tommy Shannon. Tras la publicación en 1999 de su segundo disco en solitario “Jellycream”, Bramhall recibió la llamada de Roger Waters para unirse a una gira de los Pink Floyd como cantante y guitarrista en sustitución de David Gilmour. Bramhall II también ha tocado con Eric Clapton y B.B. King. Doyle Bramhall II is an American musician, producer, guitarist, singer, percussionist and composer, best known for his work with artists like Eric Clapton or Roger Waters among many others. Doyle is son of drummer and composer Doyle Bramhall, who was member of Lightnin' Hopkins’ or Freddie King’s bands. Instead of putting after his own name the word Jr., Doyle preferred to be more original and use Doyle Bramhall II. Only aged 18 he toured with The Fabulous Thunderbirds and, two years later, he founded the group Arc Angels with Charlie Parker and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rhythm section members Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon. After publishing in 1999 his second solo album "Jellycream", Bramhall received a call from Roger Waters requesting him to join as singer a guitar player Pink Floyd band replacing David Gilmour. Bramhall II has also played with Eric Clapton and B.B. King. In this new album our man has left no detail to chance, everything is measured and designed with an attentive commitment, so the result is a really surprising recording. Doyle shows his talent as well as his most poetic and sensitive side, with songs that range from blues to folk, country or Americana and he does it with really careful, imaginative and tasteful arrangements. Frank Bang & The Cook County Kings “The Blues Don’t Care”. Blue Hoss / Rick Lusher 2016. Si os va el blues clásico interpretado con carisma, fuerza, honestidad, garra y distinción, entonces debéis confiar en este músico y en este álbum que os recomiendo encarecidamente. Frank Bang es un cantante y guitarrista de blues de la escuela clásica de Chicago entroncado en la tradición de los años sesenta y setenta. Líder y protagonista máximo de su grupo The Cook County Kings, ha estado esperando el momento oportuno para editar este estupendo y fantástico álbum titulado “The Blues Don’t Care” que recoge diez canciones que reflejan todo lo que este músico lleva dentro y que es mucho. Para aquellos que no conozcan la trayectoria de este músico decir que en 1999 entró a formar parte de la banda de Buddy Guy donde permaneció por espacio de cinco años. Según manifiesta el propio Frank esté es el álbum que durante toda su vida ha estado esperando poder hacer y lo cierto es que ha valido la pena esperar hasta la llegada de un momento tan crucial e importante en la carrera de este músico que lleva el blues en la

sangre y que, por encima de todo, está decidido a mantenerlo vivo en su vida y en su música. MUY BUENO. If you like genuine blues performed with charisma, strength, honesty, power and distinction, then you should certainly trust in this musician and this album I recommend you. Frank Bang is a blues singer and guitarist belonging to the classic Chicago blues school, deeply rooted in 60’s and 70’s tradition. Leader and front man of his band The Cook County Kings, Frank has waited for the right time to publish this great and fantastic album entitled "The Blues Don't Care" which includes ten songs that reflect all what this musician has inside his heart, which is a lot. For those who don't know much about this musician only say that, in 1999, he was member of Buddy Guy’s band remaining there for five years. According to Frank’s words, this is the album he was willing to do for most of his life and the true thing is it has been worth to wait for such a crucial and important moment in the career of a musician who has the blues in his blood and is totally determined to keep it alive in his music and life. GREAT.

En pleno siglo XXI la vida transcurre con inusitada rapidez, las noticias vuelan, la gente va de un lado a otro con un estrés adrenalínico que sobrepasa las conciencias colectivas, existe un exceso de sobre-información…. Mississippi Heat “Cab Driving Man”. Delmark / Frank Roszak 2016. Apasionado, inspirado y a la vez melódico armonicista, Pierre Lacocque lidera sin ambages ni tapujos y con mano de hierro el grupo Mississippi Heat del que es cabeza visible e inspirador. Este nuevo y ultimo trabajo nos presenta once temas propios, tres compuestos por el guitarrista de la banda Michael Dotson quien también los canta y dos covers, “Don’t Mess Up A Good Thing” y “Smooth Operator”. Todos estos temas nos conducen por un amplio recorrido en el que el ‘vintage low down Chicago blues’, el Delta blues, los ritmos latinos y las baladas en clave de rhythm and blues se dan la mano y tienen cabida a lo largo de las canciones que se incluyen en el álbum. Ese amplio espectro y recorrido por la música negra hace que la grabación sea fresca, divertida, sumamente agradable de escuchar y disfrutar. Este es su sexto álbum para la compañía de Chicago Delmark y, como siempre, la banda suena empastada y jugosa gracias al excelente trabajo de Pierre a las armónicas, Inneta Visor a la voz, Michael Dotson a la voz y guitarra, Giles Corey también a la guitarra, Brian Quinn al bajo y contrabajo y Terrence Williams a la batería, a los que se les unen unos invitados de lujo como son Ricky Nelson, Kenny Smith, Chris “Hambone” Cameron, Sumito Ariyo, Dave Specter, Rubén Alvarez y Sax Gordon. Un mas que recomendable disco que hará las delicias y colmará de satisfacción a todos aquellos enamorados del buen blues perfectamente interpretado. MUY BUENO. All of these songs drive us to an extensive tour where vintage low down Chicago blues, Delta blues, Latin rhythms and rhythm & blues ballads come together in the songs included in the album. This broad black music range of sounds rounds up a cool, fun, pleasant and joyful recording. This is a more than recommendable album that will give delight and satisfaction to all those who look for vey good performed blues. GREAT

Big Creek Slim “Keep My Belly Full”. Straight Sooter / Gateway 2016. Auténtico y genuino exponente del blues acústico con raíces, el cantante y guitarrista Big Creek Slim nos ofrece un repaso lleno de intensa y vistosa calidad por las mas variopintas y vigorosas esencias del ‘back porch blues’ del Delta con una especial sensibilidad y elegancia, tanto en su exposición como en su discurso rico y lleno de matices que atrapan al oyente desde las primeras notas de la canción “By By Blues” de Tommy Johnson que es el blues con que se abre el álbum hasta un final lleno de sustancia con el tema “Dry Spell Blues” de Son House. Es curioso que un músico nacido en el centro de Dinamarca consiga un feeling tan genuino y sea capaz de interpretar los blues tal como lo hace

Big Creek Slim quier, en todo momento, consigue captar la esencia primigenia de este estilo musical. La razón nos la da el mismo Big Creek cuando dice que para él el blues es un sentimiento universal que conecta muy bien con su forma de ser, ya que a él siempre le ha gustado investigar y encontrar la raíz y el origen de las cosas, pues además de ser un excelente intérprete de blues es un estudioso de las raíces de la cultura escandinava, interpreta música irlandesa (aunque no en este disco) y se siente fascinado por los orígenes de la samba brasileña. En este disco está espléndidamente respaldado por unos músicos que comulgan con placer en su discurso honesto y lleno de sensibilidad. Un gran disco que no debe pasar desapercibido para ningún aficionado al género. MUY BUENO. Original and genuine musician of acoustic roots blues, singer and guitar player Big Creek Slim gives us a wide, intense and colourful range of high quality Delta back porch blues performed with a special sensitivity and elegance in the content and layout, both rich and full of nuances that will catch listeners from the first notes of the song "By By Blues” coming from Tommy Johnson that opens the album up to an end full of delicious flavours in the song "Dry Spell Blues" by Son House. It is quite surprising that a musician who was born in the middle of Denmark gets a so genuine feeling and is able play the blues as Big Creek Slim does, as he really knows how to capture the essence of this musical style. The answer comes from Big Creek himself, when he says the blues is a universal feeling that connects very well with his personality, as he always likes to investigate and find the roots and origin of the things he loves. Besides an excellent blues performer, he is also an expert in the roots of Scandinavian culture, Irish music (though he does not play it in this album) and he is also fascinated by the origins of Brazilian samba. Here you will find him perfectly backed by a bunch of musicians who pleasantly agree with his honest and full of sensitivity speech. This is a great album that should not go unnoticed for any blues and good music lover. GREAT.

Tomislav Goluban “Kaj Blues Etno”. Spona 2016. Durante más de dos décadas el armonicista croata Tomislav Goluban no ha parado de trabajar y de realizar una constante labor para popularizar el blues en su Croacia natal. Además de actuar regularmente en su país, en Europa e incluso en Estados Unidos, es fundador del Etno Blues Festival que tiene lugar en su zona natal en el noroeste de Zagreb y realiza asimismo un programa radiofónico a nivel nacional. Este es su octavo disco que graba en estudio en el que incluye veintiún temas donde fusiona la música popular y tradicional de su país con el blues y la ‘world music’. Muchas de las canciones tienen la particularidad de estar interpretadas por una serie de instrumentos muy originales como la cornamusa, bagpipe, la flauta doble, la tambura, el violín, la mandolina o instrumentos más exóticos como el tapan, el daf, la darbuka o el tambor udu. El disco se convierte en un imaginativo ejemplo de cómo combinar la música popular de esa zona de Europa con el blues, para desembocar en un sonido totalmente nuevo y diferente de lo que se escucha normalmente. Más de treinta músicos han participado en la confección de estas veintiuna canciones que van a sorprender a mas de uno. Un disco muy recomendable para amantes del folklore del mundo y de la armónica blues. MUY BUENO. For more than two decades Croatian harmonica player Tomislav Goluban has done an endless work on a tenacious effort to make blues popular in his native Croatia. Besides

performing regularly in this country, in Europe and even in USA, he is founder of Etno Blues Festival which takes place in his home region northwest Zagreb and he also hosts a national radio show. This is the eighth studio album with twenty-one songs that combine his country traditional and popular music with blues and world music. Most songs have the particularity to gather a series of very original instruments as bagpipe, double flute, tambura, violin, mandolin or even more exotic ones like tapan, daf, darbuka or udu drum. The album becomes an imaginative example of how to mix popular music of that particular European area with the blues and, in this way, end in a totally new sound completely different of what we are used to listen. More than thirty musicians have participated in these twenty-one songs that will surprise more than one. This is a highly recommended recording for world folklore and harmonica blues lovers. VERY GOOD.

Petra Börnerová Duo & Besenyei Csaba “Acoustic Session 2”. Pure Music 2015. La cantante y acordeonista checa Petra Börnerová y su marido el guitarrista húngaro-eslovaco Tomás Bobek Bobrovniczký nos presentan su álbum “Acoustic Session 2” que es continuación de su anterior disco “Acoustic Session 1” publicado en 2012 y que contó con la participación de diversos músicos invitados venidos de diversos países. En esta segunda entrega han invitado al cantante y armonicista húngaro Besenyei Csaba, el guitarrista australiano Gwyn Ashton, el cantante eslovaco Juraj Dura Turtev, el bajista húngaro Bornemissza Ádám y en el ‘bonus track’ se encuentra el hijo de la pareja., Tomás, que con sólo seis años ya toca la batería. El álbum contiene quince canciones de las que siete son originales, estando la primera dedicada a la memoria de B.B. King. Ambos músicos gozan de un reputado prestigio en los ambientes del blues de la Europa del este y hace un par de años decidieron dar un salto cualitativo en su carrera que para colocarse en la escena del panorama del blues europeo. Esperamos que el gran público acoja con ilusión y la suficiente estima a esta pareja de músicos enamorados del blues para que puedan confirmar con autoridad su valía. MUY BUENO. Czech singer and accordionist Börnerova Petra and her husband Hungarian-Slovak guitar player Thomas Bobek Bobrovniczký present their new album "Acoustic Session 2" which follows the path of their previous one "Acoustic Session 1" published in 2012, that counted with the participation of some guest musicians coming from various countries. For this second one they have invited Hungarian singer and harmonica player Besenyei Csaba, Australian guitarist Gwyn Ashton, Slovakian singer Juraj Dura Turtev, Hungarian bass player Bornemissza Ádám and, in the bonus track, you will find the couple's son, Tomás who, with only six years, plays drums. The album gathers fifteen songs, seven original ones, where the opening one is dedicated to the memory of B.B. King. Both musicians have a reached a notorious prestige in blues circles of Eastern European countries and, a couple of years ago, they decided to take a big step up in their career to place themselves in the context of European blues scene. Let’s hope general audiences welcome with enthusiasm and enough recognition these two blues lover musicians, and confirm their undeniable value. VERY GOOD.

Diana Rein “Long Road”. Rude Mood 2016. La cantante y guitarrista rumana Diana Rein emergió prácticamente de la nada en el pasado año 2016 para

directamente embolsarse un par de premios que le concedieron a la mejor cantante femenina y al mejor cd editado por una mujer, álbum que llevaba por título “Long Road” y que es el mismo que estamos comentando ahora. Con anterioridad había grabado un primer álbum titulado “The Back Room” que contenía ocho canciones y que pasó bastante desapercibido. Sus mas acérrimos admiradores le han puesto el sobrenombre de ‘Six String Siren’ por la forma en que se desliza a través de las canciones que interpreta, con esas letras agudas y llenas de ingenio que proyecta a través de su garganta de oro y por sus solos de guitarra melódicos y a la vez contundentes, lo que la convierte en una auténtica ‘killer’ muy en la línea de sus admirados Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix y Buddy Guy. Diana Rein reside en Chicago y habitualmente se la puede ver y escuchar en garitos del extrarradio como el The Double Door, el Fitzgerald’s Joe’s Bar o el Lucille. Si os gusta el Indie blues y el rock blues alternativo, entonces no dudéis que Diana Rein es la opción más apropiada para que disfrutéis con su música y sus canciones. MUY BUENO. Romanian singer and guitar player Diana Rein practically appeared out of nowhere last 2016 to directly receive a couple of awards as best female singer and best cd edited by a woman, for her album "Long Road" which is the one we are reviewing now. She had previously released a first album entitled "The Back Room" with eight songs, which was rather unnoticed. Her most faithful fans call her the 'Six String Siren' for the way she glides on the songs she performs, thanks to the acute inventive lyrics she is able to sing and project through her gold throat together with her melodic but at the same time strong guitar, which make her become a real killer in the path of her always admired Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy. Diana Rein lives in Chicago and she usually can be seen playing at outskirts of town clubs like The Double Door, Fitzgerald's Joe's Bar or Lucille. If you like Indie blues and alternative rock blues, then do not hesitate to discover Diana Rein, because she is one of the best options you will find to enjoy music and her songs. VERY GOOD.

Aaron West “504 Soul”. Self Production 2016. Este joven compositor que también toca la guitarra y canta llamado Aaron West creció en Nueva Gales del Sur, Australia y, desde muy joven, descubrió su amor por la música. A los diez años tocaba la guitarra con la suficiente habilidad como para recibir todo el ánimo y el empuje de sus progenitores. Only aged ten he played guitar with skill enough to receive all the

Trudy Lynn “I’ll Sing The Blues For You”. Connor Ray Music / Mark Pucci 2016 Trudy Lynn no necesita presentación para todos los que conocen el blues en profundidad. Cantante de enorme expresividad, Trudy siempre da lo mejor de sí misma y en este nuevo proyecto vuelve una vez más a ofrecernos una demostración de cómo cantar el blues y entregarse a ello en cuerpo y alma. Este nuevo disco lleva el sugestivo titulo de “I’ll Sing The Blues For You” y la idea surgió cuando su hija le regaló unas tarjetas de visita en las que junto a su nombre aparecía esa misma frase. Cuando Trudy le dio las gracias por el regalo, ésta le contestó que eso era lo que ella hacía desde que era una artista, es decir, cantar el blues para que cada uno de los que la escuchan lo sienta como algo propio. Por eso Trudy se ha esmerado en comunicar todo lo que lleva dentro. El material escogido para este disco ha sido perfecta y cuidadosamente seleccionado. Son diez temas a cual mejor que abarcan desde canciones de la propia Trudy Lynn como ese blues a medio tempo con ritmo funky que es “Thru Chasin’ You”, hasta el estupendo shuffle “Alright Baby” de Big Mama Thornton o “Down On Bended Knee” de Johnny Copeland. The Jimmys “Live From Transylvania”. Brown Cow Productions / Blind Raccoon 2016. Prepárate a disfrutar con todo el feeling y el swing que emana de este grupo llamado The Jimmys, liderados por Jimmy Voegeli al piano, Hammond B-3 y voz, junto a Perry Weber a la guitarra y voz, John Wartenweiler al bajo, Mauro Magellan a la batería, Darren Sterud al trombón y voz, Charley Wagner a la trompeta y Pete Ross al saxo tenor. El disco se grabó en el Festival de Blues de Sighisoara en Rumania y está dedicado a la memoria de Candye Kane con la que compartieron cartel en dicho festival. Candye estaba ya muy enferma, apenas podía caminar, el dolor se reflejaba en su cara, por lo que todos los miembros de The Jimmys quedaron profundamente impresionados por la gran profesionalidad de aquella mujer tan enferma y con tantas ganas de vivir, unas ganas que mantuvo hasta el último de sus días. La selección de temas que se recogen en este álbum son una verdadera fiesta para los sentidos, un auténtico placer y un regalo para todos aquellos que amamos los blues, el jump, el rock ‘n’ roll y la diversión total y absoluta. En el concierto que comentamos The Jimmys dieron lo mejor de sí mismos, poniendo la sala patas arriba y este disco se convierte en el fiel reflejo de lo que vivieron durante aquella inolvidable noche todos los afortunados que acudieron al Mihai Eminesco Concert Hall de la ciudad de Sighisoara en Rumania. En esta ocasión ha decidido cantar a Nina Simone, una cantante a la que toda su vida ha admirado, tanto por las letras de sus canciones como por su forma libre de vivir la vida y su genialidad, aunque siempre poniendo y articulando su propio y original estilo en todas y cada una de las catorce canciones que ha seleccionado con esmero para este nuevo proyecto. John Weeks Band “Dark Angel”. Self Production / Frank Roszak 2016. Este no es un disco de blues al uso, ya que está pasado por el filtro y el tamiz de las diferentes influencias que John Weeks ha ido recibiendo desde muy joven y que le han ido formando musicalmente. Nacido en Francia, durante los años noventa estuvo desplegando todo su arte y buen hacer como guitarrista tocando por diferentes clubs de Paris. Por su parte la vocalista Stacey Turpenoff reside habitualmente en Saint Louis, Missouri donde ha asimilado toda la cultura de la música afroamericana que sabe transmitir con coraje y solidez. Por su parte el teclista Dan Haynes ha desarrollado su carrera entre Austin, Texas y Australia. Todos ellos han sabido combinar y asimilar sus diversas influencias para plasmarlas a lo largo de un álbum variado, diferente y muy original, bien respaldados por Stephen Whitfield al bajo y Robert Fiorino a la batería y percusión. Son diez temas muy agradables, divertidos, bailables y bien combinados entre si, donde destacan la fuerza, el ritmo y la melodía por encima de otras consideraciones. El álbum fue grabado y mezclado en los Macy Sound Studios en Denver, Colorado por el ingeniero John Macy. MUY BUENO. This is not a classic usual blues recording, as it has been passed through the filter of the different influences John Weeks has received since he was a young guy, that have gradually formed his musical tastes. Born in France, during the 90’s he gave his guitar skills and good work playing in different Paris clubs. On the other hand, singer Stacey Turpenoff usually lives in Saint Louis, Missouri where she has taken up Afroamerican music feeling, she knows well to communicate with a fierce credible attitude. Also keyboardist Dan Haynes has developed his career between Austin, Texas and Australia. All together have managed to assimilate and cleverly mix their different influences to display them along a varied, different and very original album, well supported by Stephen Whitfield on bass and Robert Fiorino on drums and percussion. Ten very pleasant, funny, danceable and well combined songs, where the powerful rhythm and delicious melodies prevail over other considerations. The album was recorded and mixed at Macy Sound Studios in Denver, Colorado by engineer John Macy. GREAT.

Mr. Sixty “Secrets That We Share”. Pol & Lo 2016. Fruto de su colaboración en un concierto en Castelldefels, Barcelona junto a otros músicos invitados, el cantante, compositor y armonicista norteamericano afincado en España Mike Shannon entró en contacto con el bajista Frank Andrada y el guitarrista Santi Picó. La compenetración y buen rollo que surgió entre ellos dio como resultado que decidieran colaborar juntos y grabar este estupendo álbum que aquí comentamos. Para ello reclutaron al batería Francesc Rabassa y, después de unos pocos ensayos, se pusieron manos a la obra, grabando siete canciones originales del propio Mike Shannon y tres versiones de los temas “Statesboro Blues” de Blind Willie McTell, “One Way Out” de Sonny Boy Williamson II y “Whipping Post” de Gregg Allman. El disco se saborea con fruición y pasión, gracias a unos músicos curtidos en mil y una batallas que, bajo el nombre de Mr. Sixty, han plasmado de manera original y novedosa

todas las ideas musicales de Shannon, en canciones donde han sabido combinar con gusto y buen criterio los sonidos de la música pop de los años sesenta con el rock y el blues mas actual y vigente. Como siempre Mike sopla la armónica con gusto y buena técnica apostillando efectivos y precisos riffs. También destacan sus excelentes dotes vocales, puestas al servicio de la buena música que aquí encontramos. MUY BUENO. Thanks to a special collaboration together with other guest musicians on a show in Castelldefels, Barcelona, American singer, songwriter and harmonica player now settled in Spain Mike Shannon was introduced to bass player Frank Andrada and guitar player Santi Picó. Thanks to the good feeling and musical understanding among them, they decided to collaborate and record this great album we have on hands. Ambas organizaciones trabajan en la educación musical y en la organización de excelentes conciertos. En esta tercera entrega han vuelto a reunir a la ‘crème de la cr+eme’ de los músicos de blues de la zona de la costa noreste norteamericana, todos ellos perfectos exponentes del blues tejano en su más pura concepción, forma, estilo y sonido como son los cantantes Duke Robillard, Sugaray Rayford, Brian Templeton y Willie J. Joanna Connor “Six String Stories” MC Records 2016. Joanna Connor está revolucionando la escena del blues rock. En poco tiempo se ha convertido en uno de los nuevos fenómenos de la guitarra slide. Su estilo incendiario y electrizante no deja a nadie indiferente y si a ello añadimos una voz poderosa, bien timbrada, con unos amplios y bien coordinados matices, entonces no es nada extraño que esté sorprendiendo a las audiencias que acuden a sus conciertos. En este álbum Joanna ha incluido diez poderosas canciones llenas de energía y mucho gancho, ocho de las cuales han sido compuestas por ella misma junto a Marion Lance Lewis quien en el disco también se encarga de tocar la batería y el bajo. Fruto de un encuentro casual mientras tocaban en la calle en mayo del 2015, el cantante y guitarrista Pablo Carrascal y el armonicista Cristóbal Oteros “Pobas” decidieron que debían unir sus fuerzas y formar un dúo para interpretar y recrear los viejos blues del Mississippi en formato acústico, seleccionando un repertorio basado en algunos de los bluesmen que más admiran como Robert Johnson, Lightnin’

Hopkins, Sonny Boy Williamson o Lonnie Johnson entro otros y diversos viejos arquetipos del blues más añejo. Con el nombre de La Pana Brothers, ambos músicos han recorrido la mayoría de salas, locales y bares de Andalucía, participando asimismo en algunos de los festivales que se realizan en el sur de España. Después de haber grabado un E.P. en el año 2015, ahora nos presentan este disco que contiene catorce blues en el que participan dos músicos invitados como son Toni Travé al banjo, guitarra y voz en tres canciones y Fernando Beiztegui a la voz y percusión en dos cortes más. Ambos músicos destilan buen gusto, delicadeza, sensibilidad y mucha astucia en todas y cada una de las canciones que abordan en el álbum, entre las que personalmente destacaría “Kansas City”, “That’s Alright” o “Goin’ Down South”. MUY BUENO. Thanks to a chance encounter while playing on the street in May 2015, singer and guitar player Pablo Carrascal and harmonica player Cristóbal Oteros "Pobas" decided they could join forces and form a duo, to perform and bring back Mississippi old blues in acoustic format, selecting a repertoire based on blues songs coming from their most admired bluesmen like Robert Johnson, Lightnin' Hopkins, Sonny Boy Williamson or Lonnie Johnson among other varied old representatives of the most genuine blues. Under the name of La Pana Brothers, they have played in most Andalucia bars, clubs or venues and they have also participated in some of the festivals which take place in the south of Spain. After recording an E.P. in year 2015, now they have published this album including fourteen blues where you will also find two guest musicians, Toni Travé on banjo, guitar and vocals in three songs and Fernando Beiztegui in vocals and percussion in two cuts. Johnny Max Band “Roadhouse Soul”. Pour Soul 2016. A lo largo de los años The Johnny Max Band se han ganado con creces la reputación de ser una banda que sabe como entretener, atrapar y hacer disfrutar a las audiencias, gracias a una música divertida, atractiva y llena de ritmo, junto a un repertorio bien escogido y unas letras que poseen un gran y abundante sentido del humor. Jeff Chaz “This Silence Is Killing Me”. JCP Records / Frank Roszak 2016. Jeff Chaz es un músico muy activo en la zona de New Orleans. Ahora nos presenta su segundo álbum grabado durante el pasado año 2016 en el que, rodeado de una excelente big band, nos brinda once canciones propias que se convierten en un homenaje a algunos de los músicos que mas ha admirado como son B.B. King, Albert King, Duke Robillard, Little Milton o Roy Buchanan. Todas estas influencias se ven reflejadas en este álbum muy bien concebido y trabajado, además de contar con unos arreglos magníficos. Después de décadas sobrevolando infinidad de lugares por los que ha paseado sus blues formándose como un buen cantante y un eficaz guitarrista, es ahora cuando su solvencia y madurez han llegado a lo más alto, lo que se hace plenamente visible a lo largo de este nuevo álbum capaz de conectar y entusiasmar a todos aquellos que se acerquen a escucharlo y en el que Jeff se siente cómodo al igual que todos los músicos que han intervenido en la confección y contribuído en el excelente resultado de este álbum. No se puede obviar que nuestro hombre está cómodo y relajado, ya sea interpretando ‘low down dirty blues’ como rhythm and blues o funky. Un disco muy completo que estoy seguro satisfará las expectativas que se pongan en él. MUY BUENO. Jeff Chaz is a very active musician in New Orleans area. Now he presents the second album he recorded during the past year 2016 where, surrounded by an excellent big band, brings us eleven own songs that become a tribute to some of his most admired musicians like B.B. King, Albert King, Duke Robillard, Little Milton or Roy Buchanan. All these influences can be found in this well conceived and perfectly build up new album which also includes magnificent arrangements. After decades of giving his blues in countless gigs and places which have helped him to mature as a good singer and guitar player, he has now reached an undeniable top quality and reliability, that becomes evident along this new album that will immediately catch all those who come to listen to it, as Jeff feels totally comfortable as well as all the musicians who have been involved and contributed to this excellent recording. You will immediately realize Jeff feels very relaxed either playing low down dirty blues, rhythm and blues or funky music. This is a very complete album I am sure will fulfil the expectations put on it. GREAT.

John Richard “Lost In Dublin”. Self Production / Sarah French 2016. El cantante y compositor de folk canadiense John Richard quedó totalmente fascinado cuando visitó la ciudad de Dublin. En la capital de Irlanda, John sintió que la música y los históricos lugares de la ciudad le proporcionaban la inspiración suficiente como para componer un nuevo repertorio y material alejado de los patrones de los doce compases, por lo que, solo y sin obligaciones, decidió quedarse en la ciudad por un tiempo indefinido y mucho más de lo que en principio había previsto. Fue así como John Richard se dedicó a estudiar y explorar todos aquellos lugares, rincones y gentes que

habitan la ciudad. El resultado de esta investigación es este álbum que musicalmente se nutre sobre todo de folk, soul, blues, e incluso hay alguna referencia al metal. En lo que se refiere a los textos John escribe sobre temas como el amor, la soledad, la enfermedad y también incluye una de las leyendas de Dublin cuyo protagonista es Satán. En el disco colaboran algunos músicos importantes del blues y del folk de la costa este canadiense como son Marc Doucet, Keith Hallett, Carter Chaplin y Charlie Phillips. Una rareza que sobresale entre las curiosidades que hoy en día se editan y que, por su calidad intrínseca, merece ser resaltado positivamente. MUY BUENO. Canadian folk singer and composer John Richard was totally fascinated when he visited the city of Dublin. In the capital of Ireland, John felt the city music, the sites and the historical places provided him the necessary inspiration to compose and create a new repertoire and music material far away of the twelve bars patterns so, alone and with no specific plans, he decided to remain there more than he has previously thought. He devoted himself to study and explore all those places, hidden corners and people living there. The result is this album musically based on folk, soul, blues, and even with some metal references and for what concerns to the lyrics the topics talk about love, loneliness, wealth and it also includes a local Dublin legend featuring Satan. The recording also gathers some important blues and folk Canadian east coast musicians such as Marc Doucet, Keith Hallett, Carter Phillips and Charlie Chaplin. This is a rarity that stands out among most of the daily published curiosities that should be noticed for its special quality. VERY GOOD.

Stevie J. Blues “Back 2 Blues”. Mississippi Delta / PK Music / Frank Roszak 2016. Después de un largo período sin entrar en los estudios, el compositor, cantante, guitarrista y productor Stevie J. Blues publica finalmente este disco que comentamos. Stevie se ha dedicado profesionalmente a la música durante prácticamente toda su vida. Hijo de un predicador y pastor de la iglesia anglicana, como no podía ser de otro modo, sus primeras influencias provienen del gospel y del southern soul, aunque pronto descubrió el blues, música que le atrajo y fascinó desde el primer momento. A principios del nuevo siglo entró a formar parte de la banda de Bobby Rush, grabando y realizando diversas giras. Stevie J. Blues grabó su primer álbum en solitario en el año 2008 al que siguieron un par más. Hoy en día se ha convertido en uno de los mas reputados entertainers de la escena del blues de este nuevo siglo XXI. Con este disco Stevie J. pretende llevar al blues a las nuevas audiencias y poner al género en primera línea, gracias a unas canciones con unos arreglos bailables, divertidos y contagiosos con influencias de soul, gospel y dance music. Para ello ha contado con unos excelentes músicos y unos arreglos de metal francamente soberbios. After a long period without visiting the recording studios, singer, guitar player, composer and producer Stevie J. Blues has finally published this last album. Stevie has worked professionally as a musician most of his life. Son of a preacher and pastor of the Anglican Church, as it could not be otherwise, his early influences came from gospel and southern soul, but he soon discovered the blues, a music that immediately attracted and fascinated him. At the beginning of this new century he became member of Bobby Rush’s band,

recording and performing in some tours. Stevie J. Blues published his first solo album in year 2008, which was followed by a couple more. Today, he has already become one of the most outstanding entertainers of the new century blues scene. With this album Stevie J. wants to make the blues well known to new audiences and put this music again in the first line, thanks to a bunch of songs with danceable, funny and catching arrangements with big influences of soul, gospel and dance music. He has also recruited very excellent musicians and a superb horn section. According to his own words, with this project he would like all listeners could understand, feel and share his vision of how the immediate future of blues should be. GREAT.
