ACTIVITIES IN 2014
Educational and Professional Activities,
and Communities Services
Abstract
It was an exciting busy and beautiful year overall. I developed my professional skills and spared my time to serve my community (professional and social) as well. I think, if we want to live in a peaceful, healthy and caring community we should partner for the betterment.
I served as Chair for Education Outreach Committee, East Toronto Chapter (ETC) of PEO where I helped students. I served as Director Of Licensure Assistance Program-PEO where I helped trained engineers to get their P.Eng. As a member of executive board of ETC-PEO I helped to organize, manage and conduct seminar. As President of Chemical Engineering Graduate Students Association, Ryerson University I tried to bring together student, staff and faculties. As executive member of Social Activities Committee of Neil Wycik (NW), I helped to make policies and approve budgets for events at NW.
I am hoping (wishing) an improved, productive and caring 2015.
Seminar: Renewable Energy Sources in CanadaTo have energy security, improve air and water quality, and community development it is necessary to search for alternative source of energy and look beyond fossil fuels. Canada has abundant renewable resources including wind, solar, ocean and biomass energy. In order to best use of these resources, it is needed to ensure that a mature and competitive renewable energy industry is available. Fortunately, Canada has the expertise and technologies to produce energy from renewable sources in the form of electricity, industrial heat, thermal energy for space and water conditioning, and transportation fuels. Canada’s farms, forests and waste products are ideal for producing sustainable renewable fuels. This talk will bring awareness to use renewable energies and the challenges facing the further development of biomass renewable energy in Canada will be discussed.
Presenter:
Khurram Shahzad Baig, P.Eng. Engineer Baig has over 10 years of experience in chemical and environmental fields. Identifying renewable energy source and utilizing renewable energy is his passion. He is a Ph.D. candidate in the department of Chemical Engineering (Renewable Energy) at Ryerson University. Currently, his research is concentrated on the pre-fermentation steps in the production of bioethanol from agricultural residues. He has presented some of his research topics in 58th, 62nd and 63rd Canadian Chemical Engineering Conferences in Canada.
