Activity 3 As we are nearing the end of the school year,

it’s important to think about going to secondary school; preparing for it will make you feel more ready to tackle the year with a clear head and

optimism. Consider how you currently feel about starting secondary school. What are you excited

about? What are you worried about? What methods can you adopt to help you cope with

these situations?

Activity 4 Look at the photo and answer the questions Literal Questions: What are the people doing? How many people are in the picture? Where are they skydiving to? Inference Questions: What is the person taking the picture doing? What are in their backpacks? What did they jump out of? Are they experienced?

Writing Question: Write a narrative about the emotions you feel as you step to the edge of the plane, breathe in deeply and dive into the open air. Think about the gush of wind that engulfs you, the feeling of air resistance as you freefall through the air and the exhilaration as your parachute opens and you peacefully make your descent back to earth.

Activity 5

Look at the photo and answer the questions:

Is it possible for us to touch clouds?

What are clouds made of?

Can we touch what they are made of?

What is the sky?

Where does the sky begin?

Why is the sky blue?

Picture this: Draw a picture of yourself floating over a location of your choice. It could be looking down on a tropical island, or swinging through the stars in outer space. Use your imagination!

Activity 6

Task 5 continued…

She pulled down on the chain with her left hand, steering herself towards her target. It was supposed to be the most exciting birthday present ever; a hot air balloon ride. However, Alice had been hanging on for dear life for over 100KM (since the basket of the hot air balloon had fallen off). She was now getting used to steering the huge balloon by manoeuvring her body, leaning to the left or to the right.

Terrified yet excited at the same time, Alice could just about make out her house and garden far below. It was the one surrounded by trees straight ahead, wasn’t it?

She took a deep breath and focused…

Can you continue the story about Alice and the hot air balloon? Will she reach the ground safely? Will she land in the right garden?
