Our Name
WHAT DOES
THE WORD
ACUMEN
MEAN?
ACUMEN ;
(ˈækjʊˌmɛn, əˈkjuːmən)
The word is a Latin word
from the 1530s which
means "a point, sting,"
hence "sharpness, shrewd-
ness," from acuere "to
sharpen" .
ACUMEN is the ability to
judge well; keen discern-
ment; insight
ACUMEN means quick-
ness, accuracy, and keen-
ness of judgment or in-
sight.
BUSINESS ACUMEN is
keenness and quickness in
understanding and deal-
ing with a business situa-
tion in a manner that is
likely to lead to a good
outcome.
[1] The term "business
acumen" can be broken
down literally as a com-
posite of its two compo-
nent words: Business
literacy is defined in
SHRM's Business Literacy
Glossary as "the
knowledge and under-
standing of the financial,
accounting, marketing
and operational functions
of an organization”
[2] The Oxford English
Dictionary defines acu-
men as "the ability to
make good judgments and
quick decisions".
[3] Given these textbook
definitions, a strictly
literal definition would
be "keenness and quick-
ness in understanding and
dealing with a business
situation”

12 Foods for Better Sex
If you want to put some sizzle back into your sex life, food
can help you set the mood. There‘s nothing better than a ro-
mantic, home-cooked dinner, featuring some R-rated foods to
help turn up the heat. ―There‘s a growing body of evidence
that some of the vitamins and components in foods can en-
hance sexual function and sexual experience,‖ says Jennifer R.
Berman, MD, the director of the Berman Women‘s Wellness
Center, in Beverly Hills, Calif.
Here are some of the food ingredients that have been major
players in aphrodisiac history and lore, and also have modern-
day science to back up their claims.
AVOCADOS
The Aztecs referred to avocados
as, ahem, testicles, because of
their physical shape. But the
scientific reason why avocados
make sense as an aphrodisiac is
that they are rich in unsaturated
fats and low in saturated fat, making them good for your heart
and your arteries. Anything that keeps the heart beating strong
helps keep blood flowing to all the right places; in fact, men
with underlying heart disease are twice as likely to suffer from
erectile dysfunction (ED).
ALMONDS
Topping the list of feisty foods, almonds have long been pur-
ported to increase passion, act as a sexual stimulant, and aid
with fertility. Like asparagus (another one of my favorite sexy
foods), almonds are nutrient-dense and rich in several trace
minerals that are important for sexual health and reproduction,
such as zinc, selenium, and vitamin E. ―Zinc helps enhance
libido and sexual desire,‖ says Dr. Berman. ―We don‘t really
understand the mechanisms behind it, but we know it works.‖
STRAWBERRY
The color red is known to help
stoke the fire: A 2008 study found
that men find women sexier if
they‘re wearing red, as opposed to
cool colors such as blue or green.
Strawberries are also an excellent source of folic acid, a B
vitamin that helps ward off birth defects in women and, ac-
cording to a University of California, Berkley study, may be
tied to high sperm counts in men. This Valentine‘s Day, try
making dark-chocolate-dipped strawberries. And while we‘re
on the subject, there‘s a reason we give chocolate on Valen-
tine‘s Day: It‘s full of libido-boosting methylxanthines.
SEA FOODS
Despite their slippery and slimy texture, oysters may be the
most well-known aphrodisiac. They‘re also one of the best
sources of libido-boosting zinc. But other types of seafood can
also act as aphrodisiacs. Oily fish—like wild salmon and her-
ring—contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for a
healthy heart.
7 www.acumenbusinessmag.com Acumen Business Pages Edition 9 December 2012
ASPARAGUS
Asparagus suggests it is an
aphrodisiac. The French
word for asparagus is
‗asperge‘ which is a slang
word for the male sex organ.
An English herbalist from the 17th century, Nicholas Culpep-
per, wrote that asparagus "stirs up lust in man and woman."
In 19th century France, bridegrooms were served three courses
of the sexy spears at their prenuptial dinners. Apparently for a
good reason: asparagus is a great source of potassium, fiber,
vitamin B6, vitamins A and C, and thiamin and folic acid. The
latter is said to boost histamine production necessary for the
ability to reach orgasm in both sexes.
CHOCOLATE
Pure chocolate, the king of natural aphrodisiacs, contains a
host of compounds including anandamide, the psyochoactive
feel-good chemical, and PEA (phenylethylamine), the "love
chemical," which releases dopamine in the pleasure centers of
the brain and peaks during orgasm.
PEA is said to help induce feelings of excitement, attraction
and euphoria. Cacao also contains tryptophan, a key compo-
nent of the neurotransmitter serotonin known to promote a
sense of well-being and relaxation.
HONEY
Sweet, sticky honey is a great
source of boron, a trace mineral
that helps the body use and
metabolize estrogen, the
female sex hormone.
Studies have shown that this mineral may also enhance testos-
terone levels in the blood, the hormone responsible for promot-
ing sex drive and orgasm in both men and women. In addition,
honey contains B vitamins needed for testosterone, as well as
other nutrients, enzymes and phytochemicals.
ARUGULA
Arugula has been heralded as an arousal aid since the first cen-
tury. Today, research reveals that the trace minerals and anti-
oxidants packed into dark, leafy greens are essential for our
sexual health because they help block absorption of some of
the environmental contaminants thought to negatively impact
our libido.
FIGS
These funny-shaped fruits
have a long history of being a
fertility booster, and they
make an excellent aphrodisiac
because they are packed with
both soluble and insoluble
fiber, which is important for
heart health. Plus, high-fiber foods help fill you up, not out, so
it‘s easier to achieve that sexy bottom line—or belly.
BASIL
Basil not only makes the meals smell and taste better, but it
also has a lot of beneficial effects on human body. Basil has a
fantastic aroma that is said to have an aphrodisiac effect; it is
also very stimulating. Using sweet basil in a pasta sauce will be
sure to get your heart racing! Maybe this explains why Italians
are so romantic!
BANANAS
By it shape its connection with sexuality is quite obvious, but
you‘ll also find that bananas are loaded
with potassium, magnesium and B vitamins.
It also contains chelating minerals and the
bromeliad enzyme, said to enhance the
male libido.
CITRUS
Any member of this tropical fruit family is super-rich in anti-
oxidants, vitamin C, and folic acid—all of which are essential
for men‘s reproductive health. Enjoy a romantic salad that in-
corporates citrus, like pink grapefruit or mandarin oranges, or
use a dressing made with lemon and lime.

things you will be successful. - Amos Johnson Jr, PhD
Here’s the list ...
1. Make sure your spouse is on board with the business
vision.
2. Be careful about picking political sides in the public
square because you will alienate potential customers.
3. Constantly promote what you are selling because
people will forget about your products and services.
4. Have a passion for what you are doing, so you can
transfer your passion to your customers.
5. Find the real pain points that people have, and will
pay to solve.
6. Experiment to find the right price point, but error on
the lower side at first because you can always raise
your prices later.
7. Before you build it, make sure people want it.
8. Focus, Focus, Focus
9. Forget about being perfect, good enough is Ok.
10. Get over self-doubt or you‘ll never be successful.
11. Realize that entrepreneurship is not a right nor is it
fair.
12. Don‘t ask people to buy too soon because they will
say no.

Miss Ghyslaine Tchouaga- The 1
st Cameroonian to win Miss Africa USA Pageant
Cameroonian born beauty, Miss Ghyslaine Tchouaga, fondly referred to
as Gigi, was crowned Miss Africa USA 2011-12 on Sunday Nov 13th last
year. It was for the first time in the pageant's seven year history that a
Cameroonian walked away with the crown. The mission of the Miss
Africa USA pageant is to empower young African girls as good will am-
bassadors for Africa, using their status to leverage support to help com-
munities in need.
As the newly crowned African queen Miss Ghyslaine Tchouaga, was
expected to represent the African continent in America during her reign
as Miss Africa USA from last year through this year 2012.
Miss Ghyslaine Tchouaga , a 22-year-old nursing student made her way
to the spotlight in a mix of more than 150 African girls, who had regis-
tered for the pageant and auditioned to represent their respective coun-
tries. 16 finalists, representing 16 countries made the cut to the final,
where the Cameroonian pearl distinguished herself.
According to Miss Ghyslaine Tchouaga, all the finalists were amazing in
their presentations and platforms for Africa. “We’ve all taken a commit-
ment to change the world around us, with or without the crown,” she
added.
Born in Yaoun-
dé, Miss Gigi
Tchouaga immi-
grated with her
mother and sib-
lings to the USA to
pursue higher
education and
more opportunities
for the family. A
true Pan-
Africanist, Miss
Gigi Tchouaga’s
priority as stated
in her platform is
to help save lives
in the Horn of
Africa. She recog-
nizes the emer-
gency in Somalia
and wants to im-
mediately launch her campaign to 'Feed The Hungry' in Somalia.
She says Cameroon is a very blessed country with enough food to
feed even neighboring countries. In an emotional appeal during plat-
form presentations, Miss Somalia moved the audience by recognizing
Miss Cameroon's commitment to the crisis in Somalia. She could not
believe another finalist could take interest in her country.
While Miss Gigi Tchouaga pledged to focus on saving lives in Soma-
lia, she was also very interested in giving back to her native country,
by organizing a Medical Mission in Cameroon to help with medical
supplies and equipment for hospitals in rural and underdeveloped
areas as well as other humanitarian activities in Yaounde, Bafang,
Buea, Bamenda and Limbe.
“I will employ my position to advocate for orphans and sick children in
Cameroon by working closely with the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation
and the African Women's Development Foundation both registered
non-profits in the USA, to achieve my dreams as a Goodwill Ambas-
sador. Just remember that while we enjoy delicious meals every day,
millions are dying of starvation in Somalia. Join me, Miss Africa USA
in 'FEEDING THE HUNGRY” she said as she was crowned the
queen.
Miss Ghyslaine Tchouaga, was scheduled to work in Cameroon this
year to make a difference in health care sector as well as promoting
the education of the girl child and to promote education for children in
underserved communities as well as to carry out a back to school
drive in September 2012 to help orphans and children in need.
She was scheduled to lead the Cameroon Medical Missions both in
Yaounde, the Nation’s Capital where she was born and raised and
also in the Bafang area in the Western Region of the Country.
Miss Ghyslaine Tchouaga’s goal with the Mission was to ship 2
c ontainers of Medical Supplies and equipment to serve the under
privileged, these supplies and equipment will go a long to help com-
munities in need because health care is very poorly provided for in
Cameroon. Health care centers and hospitals very often lack basic
supplies and Medical Professionals are often working without the
necessary equipment and supplies they need to do their job.

thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name
Jesus.32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the
Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of
his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of
his kingdom there shall be no end.
5. Luke 2: 10-14
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring

which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in

Miss Ghyslaine
Tchouaga-
A: Thank you for granting us this interview with
you. When exactly did the tenure of your reign
start ?
Gigi: My reign started exactly on November 13,
2011.
A: Can you share with us what you have been able
to achieve during your reign as Miss Africa USA?
Gigi: As Miss Africa USA, so far, I have been able
to accomplish great things. I did a coat drive that
benefitted DC Homeless department, I have
volunteered for various organization such as the
International Rescue Committee, I am always
invited to mentor or to speak to other young girls.
During this summer, I have the amazing oppor-
tunity to travel to Equatorial Guinea, Malabo,
where we spent our day in an orphanage and that
experience made me realized how blessed I am to
leave in America, to have the opportunity to go to
school and to even have a place to call home.
Last but not least, my title as Miss Africa USA has
helped to grow as more down to earth person.
A; From your experience as the Miss Africa USA
queen what advice would you give other young
African ladies who wish to follow after your
footsteps?
Gigi: I will advise my African sisters to follow
their own voice and be confident as well.
In addition, if failure is not an option and hard
work always leads to success.
A: What are you doing now & what should we
look out to you doing in the near future?
Gigi: As right now, I am in school at the University
of Maryland Baltimore County. For me, a strong
woman, a woman who wishes to inspire, is a
woman who is educated at first. I am working on
the establishment of my non-profit to continue
my humanitarian work as Miss Africa USA.

Family fun saving activities Family fun saving activities Family fun saving activities
Low-Cost or No-Cost Family Financial
Literacy Activities
Create a money journal -- Track everything you spend for the
week, and write it down in a money journal. It will also show you
and the rest of your family just how easy small purchases like a
morning coffee and magazine at the convenience store can really
start to add up.
Holiday and Birthday Gifts -- Save your money and put together
a coupon book for your loved ones instead of buying a gift! Offer
up free breakfast in bed, one free car wash or yard work. What
other fun coupons can you create?
Mother's Day (May 9) & Father's Day (June 20) -- How about
making your mom or dad a coupon book full of handy certificates
they can use throughout the summer instead of buying an expen-
sive gift! Some handy ideas might be, "One Free Day of Yard
Work," "After-Dinner Clean-up Duty" or "Three Free Car Wash-
es."
Encourage your children to save 10% of their allowance in a
savings account or piggy bank to begin instilling the concept of
paying yourself first. This will help them learn that creating a
great big savings doesn't have to hurt when you start early.
Make a day at the Credit Union -- Bring the family along and
talk to your children about the different types of accounts that are
available. Set up checking or savings accounts for your children
and while you're there, set up your own savings account if you
don't already have one. Don't forget about the importance of emer-
gency savings accounts as well.
Read a money-minded book -- Take a trip to the library and add
money-minded books to your child's reading list for those light
homework evenings or for a weekend read.
Play restaurant -- Instead of going out to eat tonight, make your
very own restaurant. With the family, design a menu with your
favorite home-cooked meals (or search the Internet for some new
recipes). Have each family member pick a course and cook it all
together. This is also a fun way to dress up any meal you eat at
home, especially on the weekends.
Holiday Savings Account -- Whether you save in an additional
account or set aside some money each month in a piggy bank, start
saving now for the holiday season. You'll find it rewarding and
nice to know you won't be charging your holiday gifts this
year...or going into debt at the start of the New Year! Encourage
your children to set aside a portion of their allowance each month
too. Your Credit Union may have a Holiday or Christmas Savings
account to assist you with your savings program.
Garage sale -- Have a garage sale over the weekend and have all
or at least half of the proceeds go toward a family vacation or an-
other financial goal.
Family game night – Have a game night and play a money-
minded game like Life or Monopoly or Rich Dad Poor Dad Cash-
flow 101.
Donation day -- Turn any rainy day into a donation day! Clean
out your closet or gather toys and games you don't use anymore
and gather them all together and drive to your nearest donation
center or charity and make a tax deductible donation.
Comparison shop Throughout the Semester -- When shopping
for school clothing and supplies, teach your children the value of
money by comparison shopping. Check out the sale rack before
looking at full priced items, or browse the bargain stores. Your
children may be surprised at the amount you can save ... and you
might too!
Explore your state -- Your state may offer great vacationing
spots with family-friendly destinations. Your gas budget will be
significantly lower
when traveling in
state, instead of mak-
ing the cross-country
drive to Disney

SLEEP DISORDER
SLEEP DISORDER ( ENGLISH )
Sleep disorder is one of the most common illnesses
found in humans. Individuals spend one third of their
lives sleeping and for good reason. Sleeping helps re-
store the energy our bodies’ lose throughout the day; fur-
thermore sleeping helps strengthen our immune systems,
and it helps eliminate waste products from our muscles
and repair cells.
Unfortunately, as previously stated many of us suffer from
various types of sleeping disorders which disrupt our abil-
ity to sleep. The most common sleep disorder is insom-
nia. Most individuals do not consider themselves to be
suffering from insomnia yet if we consider that, Insomnia
is a type of dyssomnia which refers to difficulties in sleep-
ing an appropriate amount of time; one will discover that
many indeed due suffer from the condition. There are
three major symptoms of insomnia.
The first symptom is a difficulty in trying to fall to sleep.
The second symptom is an inability to stay asleep the
whole night or the necessary time for the body to restore
the energy lost during the day. The last symptoms is not
achieving adequate sleep with regards to quality, mean-
ing that regardless of the time an individual sleeps he or
she still feels they did not obtain adequate sleep. The
deepest stage of sleep is REM (rapid eye movement),
if the person does not experience this phase of sleep
they will wake up feeling sleep deprived. The treatment
for sleep disorders vary greatly but the most common
plan of actions requires some type of medication and
changing of sleep habits. The bed should not be used for
watching TV or working.
Remember your health is a gift from God, so take care of
it.

COMMERCIAL LEASE/ VENDOR
AGREEMENTS
I am about to sign / resign my commercial
lease/vendor agreement
1. Does your lease include a provision that would
require you to move to another part of the
building without much notice from the Land-
lord?
2. Did you know that you can negotiate that your
fees won’t increase unless the building has a
certain occupancy percentage?
3. Does your vendor agreement have a provision
for the appropriate amount of damages in
case of a break in?
Under Georgia law certain damages have to
be stated in the contract to be recoverable.
4. Where will you be litigating your case in case
of a break in? Is mandatory arbitration an op-
tion? What should you be doing if your vendor
contract has a “merger” clause?
5. Does the remainder of your contract have
these terms: Arbitration clause, subrogation
clause, Warranties & Representations, Cove-
nants not to compete, liquidated damages and
a guarantor/surety clause?
“Litigation” is EXPENSIVE,TIME CONSUMING
& A HEADACHE.

EMPLOYEE/INDEPENDENT VENDOR
AGREEEMENTS
General advice:
The difference between an employee and a
general contractor is “control”.
As the business owner the more control you
have over the individual time and work scope
the more likely that they are an employee.
1. Do you have an employee contract that
includes these clauses:
No Moonlighting clause?
No salutation clause?
“Non– compete” clause? ( Tricky to draft)
2. Does your independent contract have:
Duties and Responsibilities
Tax Disclaimer Information
Indemnification clause to the extent allowed
under the Georgia law?

PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENTS
If you are going into business or already in
business with someone else.
ALERT : There is a big difference between a joint ven-
ture and a partnership– one leaves you open to a joint and
several personal liability so make sure you know which one
you are operating!
DO YOU HAVE A PARTNERSHIP, OPERATING OR
SHAREHOLDER AGREEMENT? (This is not the document you
file with the Secretary of state– this is an internal agreement
as between the owners)
IT DECIDES:
* Ownership percentages
* Contributions of owners
* Distribution of profit and losses
* Voting Procedures & Decisions
* Duties and responsibilities of owners
* Mediation in case of conflicts
* Time limits
* Dissolution procedures
* Agency power of owners
* & Much ,much more...
Under Georgia law if you do not have one of these
agreements you are bound by default laws– that means the
state decides the above issues for you.
BUY/SELL AGREEMENTS
The purpose of buy/sell agreements is to lay out the proce-
dures for payments for an owner in case of a “triggering
event’.
For example what happens if your partner dies or divorces?
Don’t you want to maintain control?
If you are the other partner, do you not want your survivors
to be paid for your portion of the business?
* What is the buy– sell agreement designed to do?
* When is the buy-sell agreement triggered?
* How will the buy-sell agreement determine and pay the
purchase price?
***I highly recommend for business owners with more
than 1 owner to complete the above agreements. We work
with a GREAT company that funds these agreements.***

It will take more time, effort and expertise,
and for many of us, more money, than we
can possibly put together, to build a success-
ful business.
Factor this into your plans right from the start
or else overwhelm and burnout will soon be
moving in with you!
You may not need a full time staff but you
most certainly need an extra pair of hands or
two.
A DIY approach will take its toll on your
health, relationships and the rest of your life.
Do not attempt to do it all just because you
can.
Possible options:
Get help from reliable family members;
hire college students; take on government
funded interns or students on work
experience; hire a virtual assistant;
hire a temporary or part time worker.
You need the support and you can definitely
find a way to make it happen.
2.Leverage technology:
Automate whatever you can in your busi-
ness. Use technology to make your opera-
tions easier, faster and more cost effective.
Possible options: Use a messaging service
to take messages on your phone instead of
jumping to it every time the phone rings; set
up auto responders where appropriate to
send out standard responses to enquiries
(your email service may already provide
this); use an online scheduling tool (such as
www.timetrade.com)

Are You Enjoying Your Business?
How to Prevent Overwhelm and
Burnout So You Can Really Take
Pleasure in Your Work
At the start of our entrepreneurial journey, we
dive into business with zest and vigour, possibly
working all hours to get things done.
As small business owners, we may start off
wearing many hats or even every hat in our
business! If this has been your case, you will
however have discovered that before long, things
can get quite overwhelming, with burnout setting
in.
In horror, you realize that you are working long-
er and harder than you did at a job and probably
with less to show for it. Suddenly, it seems that
owning your own business is not quite as blissful
as you thought and for a second you wonder how
you ever got into this. It is at this point that
many throw in the towel returning to employ-
ment.
But need this be the case for you? How can a
small business owner or solo-preneur stop their
business from becoming overwhelming? How can
you avoid burn out and enjoy the work you are
so passionate about?
Here are my 3 top tips:
1.Right from the start, get all the
help you need!
You may be happy to work solo from your kitch-
en table or you may be keeping things small due
to budget constraints. However, I have come to
see that any kind of real business, not the hobby
kind, is bigger than its creator and needs more
than its creator to keep it going.
www.acumenbusinessmag.com Acumen Business Pages Edition 9 December 2012
.How to Prevent Overwhelm and
Burnout
* instead of trying to juggle client bookings
yourself; use voice transcription software rather
than personally transcribing your documents; *
meet up by Skype or use a chat or video confer-
encing service where this could replace expen-
sive, tedious and time-consuming travel; *
network online to access resources and solutions
instead of schlepping around town to find them;
* make payments online rather than making a
trip to the bank; *
use email where you can avoid a trip to and a
queue up at the post office.
Electronic accounting systems, email marketing
programs and client relationship management
software will all save valuable time and stress
3.Outsource and get a life!
Subcontract work that you do not enjoy, that
you do not have the expertise to do well, that is
low-paying if you could earn more in that time
or if it keeps you up at night. You can get the
day’s work done in a fraction of the time if you
outsource to competent hands.
And all those tasks that you never get round to
could be handled efficiently by someone else.
You may be a solo-preneur but you do not need
to fly solo. And you certainly have the right to a
life outside of work!
Possible tasks to outsource:
Web development; graphic design; administra-
tive tasks; public relations; event management;
travel arrangements; computer maintenance;
sourcing and liaising with suppliers; printing;
personal concierge/life style management or er-
rand running; accounting and tax returns; clean-
ing etc.
I have used many of these tools and resources.
Not just for tasks that I am unable to do but to
enhance my productivity, reclaiming personal
and family time. I love the work I do and I would
like to keep it so.
Oma Edoja is an author, speaker and Women's
Business Growth Mentor who is passionate about
empowering women! She is the UK's go-to-gal for
ambitious women entrepreneurs who want to get
more clients, make more money and make a bigger
impact through their work.

sential Get Clients Guide: 14

ers Struggle to Get Clients and
How to Avoid Them." She in-
vites you to download your

Therefore, I have learnt and continue to learn
to get help, leverage technology and to out-
source as much as I possibly can. This way,
even from a kitchen table, small business can
continue to be fun, refreshing and fulfilling!
Reflections:
What aspects of your business do you find
overwhelming?
How could you get help, leverage technology
or outsource in these areas?
What challenges do you face with getting
help, leveraging technology and outsourcing?
What inner resistance do you have about get-
ting help with your business?
If you will not hire help where you need it, you
will encounter the same resistance from others
to whom you try to sell your services. The en-
ergy you send out comes back to you, whether
it is the energy of abundance (“I will invest in
support because I need it”) or the energy of
scarcity (“I cannot afford support; it is too ex-
pensive. I will do it all by myself.”). Do you of-
ten get people saying they cannot afford your
services? Could you be sending out this same
withholding energy yourself?
Write in to share your insights, challenges and
thoughts on this issue. Your feedback could be
the very thing someone else needs today. You
could also benefit from the feedback of others.
