WELCOME TO THE SALE

Welcome to Advanced Beef Genetics…

Welcome to the inaugural Advanced Beef Genetics bull sale. Although we have been developing, marketing and selling commercially target-ed bulls in the past, we are extremely excited to offer this first set of bulls under the Advanced Beef brand. From all of us at Advanced Beef Genetics, we cannot begin to thank you enough for the interest in our offering or purchasing your seedstock needs with us. Developing and maintaining relationships with our customers is an important part of the value that we offer. Whether a customer from the past or a new opportunity in the future, we look forward to hearing from you.

The genetics being offered by Advanced Beef Genetics represent our continued effort to breed genetically superior herd sire candidates that excel not only in genotype but also the physical attributes that can complement your cows and improve your calf crop. By utilizing many of the tools available today, such as embryo transfer and genomic testing, we can be more confident that these bulls will meet your high demands for satisfaction. You will note in the catalog that most of the bulls will have DNA results by sale time for coat color, polledness and low density genomic enhanced EPD’s. We believe, as your genetic supplier, that by offering these evaluation tools you can make more informed decisions about where to invest your herd sire dollars. For us it is simple, provide you with the most trusted data and help take the guesswork out of your seedstock investment.

The bulls have been developed at Lauritsen Cattle Company in Exira, Iowa under the guidance of Dr. Dan Larson from Great Plains Livestock Consulting. We think you will appreciate the manner in which the bulls have been developed. Much of the data including final yearling weights, ultrasound and genomic enhancements from DNA will be available prior to sale time on our website and at the sale. Based on this information we will see some changes in the bull data that is provided in this sale book, but any changes will add to the accuracy and confidence in these sire candidates.

We understand that there are many places for the cow-calf operator to purchase herd sires. At Advanced Beef Genetics we are extremely excited about what SimAngus and the resulting heterosis can mean to the commercial producer. Do not hesitate to call Rex, Mike or Jon if you have questions about the value that these herd sire prospects can provide to your operation.

Sincerely,Mike, Rex and Jon

2015 will mark the beginning of something new and better for the founding owners of Advanced Beef Genetics. These operations have a history of commitment to genetic improvement and now with re-engineered emphasis on customer care and profit for the future, they are forging their way deeper into an ever more competitive beef business. Experience has value, but alone it may not be enough to ensure success moving forward. That is why the Henderson, Hoppes, Pearson and Rockhold families have joined forces to offer greater service and marketing options for their great customer base of the past and those in the future. SimGenetics have long been the centerpiece of these herds and that effort remains the priority. Offering high value, Simmental and SimAngus bulls with advanced levels of calving ease confidence, efficient performance and measureable end product value to meet the profitability needs of their down chain customers is job 1. A renewed commitment to customer satisfaction and service just finishes the promise and the increased the value proposition.

On behalf of everyone associated with the inaugural Advanced Beef Genetics sale, we hope you will plan to be with us Feb. 28 at the Hoppes Farm just outside of Van Meter Iowa for the 1:00 sale. You’ll find the same great bulls and genetics that customers have come to expect from these families and more.

See you Sale Day,Marty RoppAllied Genetic Resources

This individual offers tremendous rib shape, is fault free in his design and boasts $ indexes in the top 15% for API and 10% for TI. J BAR J NIGHTRIDE ASA# 2628568We sampled Nightride as a heifer bull with the anticipation that he would offer a lot more than calving ease and low birth weight. Nightride offers breed leading carcass and $ indexes in a pedigree that is different than most used SimAngus sires. He accomplished just what we anticipated, bet-the-ranch calving ease but we have been impressed with the substance and muscle his sons are exhibit-ing. Nightride will continue to see extensive use in the Advance Beef Genetics program based on our progeny experience to date. We are so impressed with this sire candidate that we purchased the dam to J Bar J Nightride 225Z in the Maternal Factory Donor female sale hosted by Allied Genetic Resources. The lot 1 and 2 bulls are great representa-tives of the value these cattle will offer.

These calves came ease, showed tremendous vigor at birth and have grown fast since weaning. We have been so impressed with the Robust calves that we are actively using the sire in our embryo transfer program. Genomic enhanced EPDs. A direct son of GW Substance 820Y and LRS Miss Keepsake 447P, B22 offers many of the same benefits as the lot 8 bull. B22 is a level hipped, stout made son that should excel in carcass merit and leave outstanding replacement females behind. The Substance sired cattle are excellent disposition cattle and that is an added benefit for bulls that are well above breed average genetically and have the phe-notype to excel. This group of herd sire candidates from 447P are an impressive representation of the value and quality she can transmit. Lot 7 is a flushmate to Lots 28 and 29.

This was the reason that we decided to AI again to the proven Shear Force bull with the desire to retain more of his productive females in our herd. Shear Force has sent the standard for genetic value, productive females and cattle that just work in commercial environments. The two sons selling offer that exceptional genetic value and the ability to take breed leading calving ease, carcass and $ indexes and put them to work in your programs. Hook’s Shear Force 38K has truly been a breed changing bull and those that have witnessed his value are the commercial cow-calf operations that have used his genetics in their herds.

As you might find, we are committed to breeding SimGenetic cattle that offer breed leading calving ease and low birth. W/C UNITED 956Y ASA# 2614725W/C United 956Y has been used heavily across the country and his genetic value has only increased in value while seeing such heavy use. That is the type of sires we want to sample here at Advanced Beef Genetics. We have been impressed with the United’s that we have seen in other operations across the country and this is our opportunity to offer some of our own. We are

also excited to offer 6 full brothers sired by United out of the TNT Miss R77 donor cow. R77 has been one of the most productive and consistent producers of commercially targeted herd sires the Simmental breed has seen. She is responsible for sires such as TNT Dual Focus T249, TNT Finale W241, TNT Final Choice W210 and TNT E-Z-3 X360 to name a few. The United’s out of R77 offer ¾ bulls with tremendous power and performance bred in. Genomic enhanced EPDs. B66 is one of the true power bulls in the offering that still offers breed average calving ease and birth weight. You have to really appreciate this bull for the overall mass, thickness and true growth potential he has to put into a set of calves. This mating has surpassed our ex-pectations and offers some breed leading genetic value progeny. Lots 7, 28 and 29 are purebred progeny sired by GW Substance and 447P. We aimed for the progeny to excel in structural soundness, depth of body and marbling. 447P offers an outcross pedigree too many of the breeds most used sires and this mating only helps to offer something that is different from the rest of the Simmental gene pool. Lots 24 thru 27 are flush mate brothers sired by CCR Catalyst, the SAV Final Answer son that Cow Camp Ranches has used so successfully. These are extremely attractive bulls that carry a bit more eye appeal while still offering extremely high genetic values for API and TI. We believe the Catalyst sired calves will offer moderation of frame and calving ease.

LOTS 30-31Lots 30 and 31, along with Lot 8, are full sib brothers sired by GW Substance and out of HRM/TRPH Ms. Dual Focus W951. W951 has the high selling female in the inaugural Value by Design female sale being selected by Reid Parker of Colorado. She was a TNT Dual Focus daughter out TNT Gunner’s dam. 951W excelled in mass, foot size, capacity and was an extremely attractive female. Prior to 951W being offered for sale we took the opportunity to make some ¾ progeny from this great breeding piece and these Substance sired calves are proof of her value.

LRS CROSSROADS 875Y ASA# 2623348LRS Crossroads 875Y was the high selling SimAngus bull that we selected in the 2012 Lassle Simmental Ranch bull sale as our replace-ment for GLS Combination R2. The Crossroads sired calves excel in growth, body dimension, outstanding feet and legs and adding pounds to a set of calves. You just cannot put more rib shape and volume in a set of calves than what Crossroads transmits. We feel the combination of maternal and terminal value that Crossroads offers makes these bull calves an easy fit for ranchers that are either selling heavy calves off the cow or retaining replacement females. There is no doubt that we are using Crossroads for his ability to sire growth and power but believe that his long term value will be the long lived daughters he will leave behind.

Considering all EPD’s and $ in-dexes, the moderate frame size, added muscle, big middle and “look” that he stamps, Alumni may very well be the most complete and balanced SimAngus bulls in the industry today. TNT DUAL FOCUS T249 ASA# 2421851It will be hard to not write an entire page of the great things that Dual Focus has done within our herd or the Simmental business as a whole. He truly was the first SimAngus sire to gain wide usage not only in seedstock Simmental operations but also large scale commercial heifer projects. The Dual Focus sired progeny have set the standard for fault free cattle that add tremendous value in either terminal or maternal applications. Not many sires can claim that they do not make a bad one and that is what we have witnessed for the past 6 years in our program – there simply is never a bad one sired by Dual Focus. These bull calves sired by Dual Focus offer the same fault free value that their sire has become known for.

Genomic enhanced EPDs. The only baldy bull in this year’s offering but one that is exceptional in his overall design, structure and performance. B52 is heavy structured, bid middle with great thickness. His youthful dam has been absolutely impressive in her young production life on the farm. We like this bull to sire a top set of commercial calves and really like the possibilities of his daughters.

LET OUR FULL CIRCLE ALLIED TEAM WORK FOR YOU!

ALLIED BY REPUTATION. FOCUSED ON SERVICE.

Whom you choose to purchase your seedstock from is just as important as the individual bulls and heifers you choose to buy. Almost everyone in this business o ers at least a few high value animals each year. There too is likely an auction sale nearly every week in 2015 that promises to be the biggest and best yet. You see them advertised constantly. With that in mind, how do you make that crucial decision on where to source seedstock? It is a decision that will literally a ect your bottom line for the next 15-20 years? That’s right, many of the bulls you buy in 2015 should still breeding cows in 2020 or beyond. That means the 10 year old cows that have made your operation pro table in the year 2031 will very likely be sired by those bulls. Does your seedstock supplier have a plan to still be providing you service in 2031 and beyond?

The member owners of Allied Genetic Resources do have a plan for the future. Market development and enhancement, value added programs, genetic decision support and strong allied industry relationships all are part of the long term approach employed by Allied. We know the genetics business will change. The pro tability we are enjoying in the beef business today nearly guarantees upgrades to the system. Already today, documented, high value genetics help commercial producers ask and get more for the cattle they produce for the larger beef industry. I absolutely guarantee this trend is with us to stay and poised to be more important every year looking forward. Logical change that e ects pro t usually happens regardless of the business, at least most places in this world. When folks pay a lot for something, they expect more in return. More consistent and higher pro t garnering genetics will be part of the risk reduction technology and strategy that drives feeder cattle and slaughter cattle pricing far into our future. Make better decisions today and the potential to bene t years from now is a very solid proposition.

What about service? Your seedstock supplier really only o ers you a couple of unique value propositions year in and year out. The rst is the proof and promise of genet-ic improvement. The very foundation for what these committed folks do everyday centers around o ering better and more pro table genetics to customers, consistent-ly. The other important factor that often separates one genetic source from another is customer service. We believe that everything else besides the non-negotiable genetic improvement that you should demand from your supplier can be lumped under the heading of service. Bulls developed properly and tested fertile in order to breed a maximum number of females in year 1 then last for 5-7 years is an important service. Friendly delivery terms, a great selection of genetics, customer satisfac-tion based warranty terms and even a comfortable sale day atmosphere with hot co ee and a good lunch are all, to some extent services. By the way if your seedstock producer does not warranty the bulls they sell to your satisfaction, we can nd you and Allied breeder that will. Even the reputation of the genetic supplier you choose has impact on feeder prices at sale time. The member owners of Allied Genetic Resources show their commitment to customer service by concentrating on customer success. The Allied logo is a guarantee of value in itself. Every one of the Allied breeder network, more than 20,000 seedstock cows strong has made the commitment to enhanced opportunities available to the best group of commercial producers in the land, their customers.

Allied is blessed to work with the highest reputation and outwardly committed group of seedstock suppliers in the world. You’ll nd only commercially focused, pro t minded folks in this alliance. For proof, just check out our membership scope and service options available at www.alliedgeneticresources.com . Feeder cattle and replacement female marketing are available by contacting Clint Berry with commercial herd strategies, seedstock procurement and beef chain consulting from Marty Ropp. Marketing plan assistance and advertising for commercial or seedstock producers is available from Julie Murnin, and for seedstock marketing solutions plus online options to bolster marketing value both for commercial cattle and genetics contact Garrett Thomas. We believe you will nd substantial value in our full circle approach to providing services to the great customers of our Allied seedstock producers owners. Look for the Allied logo before you make your choice for high value genetics with service.

QUICK REFERENCE TO ASA EPDS AND $ INDEXESExpected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 as-sists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPDs are expressed in:

All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-pur-pose-sire scenario. Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat.Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight.Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight.Docility (DOC): Percent offspring receiving a docility score of 1 (docile).Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.

Marbling (MRB): Marbling score.Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye.Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak.Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.
