ARD Data and Settings Files Conversion – VBA Customers
ARD 2011 .NET software updates your current project data, as well as the program settings. Please see Appendix 2 below for more information on this.
New Features The following new features are included in this release:
Data Sharing. Two new commands are included to allow users to readily share Road and Pipe data between projects. Shared data is „read only‟ to the receiver of the data. Users can click to update the data if/when it is changed by the data creator. Commands are located in the Menu, Toolbar and Ribbon. Ribbon Access: General Tab > Data Sharing Panel. Commands are:
o Share Data: this allows pushing of Roads and Pipes data from teh current drawing into a user defined location – this becomes a Shared Folder
o Read Data Share: this allows Roads and/or Pipes data to be read from a Shared Folder location – users pick the Shared Folder and the drawing/s in the Shared Folder from which to reference data.
Improved Features The following features have been improved:
Help Systems
The Roads Help, Pipes Help and General Help Systems have all been updated to fully reflect the latest features and behaviours of the software.
Roads help now has two command listings – one matches the Ribbon Panel groupings and one is an A-Z command listing
ARD 2012.02/ARD 2011.17/2010.17
ARD Roads
Design Constraint – display and updating o Design constraints now display on the VGE and Cross Section windows o Design constraints dynamically update as changes are made o Click on the Update or Refresh buttons on the VGE if design constraints do
not dynamically redraw
ARD Pipes
Speed improvements have been made when creating catchments – in large data sets there could be a delay between creating catchments and turning to AutoCAD control
When Trench Volumes are output, a .csv file is created in the –Data folder (inside the AdvRoads-10 folder) including the name of the network selected
Resolved Issues This installation includes resolution to a number of issues including: ARD Roads
When using Assign Plotting Layers, the Set Default buttons didn‟t work – they are now operational again
Design Constraints o In certain situations the Design Constraints displayed information for incorrect
chainages on the Cross Section Windows – this has been resolved.
Setout removes extra sampling when plotting from the VGE – resolved
When you rebuild a surface from the VGE, all breaklines outputted from the previous surface output is completely removed.
Multi Section Batters: a bug with Copy Surface has been resolved
A problem with plotting multiple Strings that had different start chainages on a long section has been resolved
Auto Create Corridor ran slowly or exceeded the computer memory on larger jobs. This has been addressed and users should be able to generate a Civil 3d corridor from large data sets.
A number of „unable to calculate chainage‟ errors have been addressed.
Civil 3D Alignment Superelevation can now be applied to selected codes on the ARD cross sections
Adding in Conditional Templates prevented users from editing Templates – this has been addressed.
ARD Pipes
HGL Calculations at Pits when Partial Pipe Water Flow is selected o ARD uses Hazel‟s formula to calculate pit loss coefficients, with the
coefficients being based on flows into the pit. When Partial Pipe Water levels was selected for the top of HGL levels, the partial flow velocity was used to calculate pit losses. This resulted in excessive pit losses. The pit loss is now calculated based on full pipe flow at the pit
When creating a service obstruction from a 3D polylines, selecting to adopt the Obvert level from the vertices of the 3D polyline resulted in these elevations being applied to the invert – this has been addressed
Speed issues when applying catchments on large data sets has been addressed
Known Issues The following is a list of known issues with the software ARD Roads
First opening of the Design Data form may be slow on 64bit machines
The legacy Super Tables (used extensively in NSW) are not able to be applied
The Vertical Grading Editor – Colour Control file includes a parameter to set the Text Size – this is not yet enabled. Use the VGE Settings form to control text sizes.
ARD 2012.02/ARD 2011.17/2010.17
Multiple subgrade layers that match to surface is currently not supported – only the last layer can be set to „match to surface‟
ARD Pipes
Manually setting Datums for each pipe is not implemented
If there is zero flow in a pipe then the Mannings capacity will not be displayed on the long section plot
The Edit Pipe slope command will show the current pipe GRADE, even if the user has selected to use slopes for the pipe calculations. The value will however be correctly applied based on the user setting of slope or grade. This is a display/recall issue only.

o Using the Plot to File option for Long and Cross plotting now works as expected. Previously, plotting long and cross sections to file either resulted in no external drawing files being created, or one drawing file created with multiple overlapping sheets.
o Setting layers using the AutoCAD layer index colours is now carried through into the outputs – previously it would output the RGB colour equivalent.
o Pipe networks are now able to be displayed on the long and cross section plots
Setting ARD Colours o If an ARD colour is set by selecting an AutoCAD Index colour, this will be
used in the outputted linework in the drawing. Previously the software used RGB colours for all outputs to the drawing
Templates – creating a kerb from the CL of a template resulted in an error. This has been addressed and users can now create kerb sections directly off the CL
Vertical Grading Editor o An issue where clicking on Create Surface created copies of the surface and
generated an error message have been resolved.
Design Data Form o In some geometric conditions, the Variation of „Set Code Levels to Match
Surface‟ did not adopt the offset of a selected alignment at all cross sections. This issue has been resolved.
o Batter Overrides Batter overrides now behave as per previous versions. If a cut or fill
slope parameter is left blank, ARD will not apply a batter unless a maximum batter offset alignment is specified. Previously, 0 needed to be typed into the cut or fill fields for this behaviour to occur
o Design Constraints were not displayed in the Vertical Grading Editor window. Users can now select a colour for display of the constraints and they are included on the Vertical Grading Editor window. Special Note: After adding Design Constraints users will need to either close and reopen the VGE window, or click on the Update Display button on the VGE window to force the Design Constraint/s to display
Plot Cross Sections o Section by Feature Line has been reinstated for cross section plotting
Cross Section Viewer Window o Slope values are now reported as 1:X when the slope is greater than 10%,
and lines with 0.0 as the end offset are given the correct slope/position
Model Builder o An issue with the display of linework for large co-ordinate drawing files has
been resolved.
ARD Pipes
A number of improvements listed in the ARD 2011.01 release were not fully implemented – these have now been fully implemented.
Pipes are now displayed on the Road Cross Sections and Long Sections
A bug with calculation of pit bypasses has been resolved – previously sag pit calculations were not allowing for bypass from the pit
ARD 2012.02/ARD 2011.17/2010.17
Known Issues The following is a list of known issues with the software ARD Roads
First opening of the Design Data form is slow
The legacy Super Tables (used extensively in NSW) are not able to be applied
The Object Projection for cross section windows does not currently support the display of pipe networks.
The functionality to export a Civil 3D corridor from ARD is not yet implemented in this version. Neither the Add CADApps Catalogue nor the Auto Create Corridor commands are implemented at this time
The Create Roundabout tool does not model correctly using Auto Model – users will need to use Model Manager to include the Roundabout Strings in a surface model
The Alignment Superelevation command in the Design Data form does not import the Civil 3D alignment superelevation – this is functionality yet to be implemented
The Vertical Grading Editor – Colour Control file includes a parameter to set the Text Size – this is not yet enabled. Use the VGE Settings form to control text sizes.
ARD Pipes
If there is zero flow in a pipe then the Mannings capacity will not be displayed on the long section plot
The Edit Pipe slope command will show the current pipe GRADE, even if the user has selected to use slopes for the pipe calculations. The value will however be correctly applied based on the user setting of slope or grade. This is a display/recall issue only.
Users MUST ensure that BOTH the Design Surface and Natural Surface being used for the pit/pipe level calculations extend across ALL pipes and pits in the network. Error messages will display if this EITHER surface levels cannot be assigned to any pipe or pit in the network.

General
THIS IS AN AUTOCAD CIVIL 3D 2011 64 BIT RELEASE This build has been specifically developed to provide a software solution for
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 64 bit customers.
All forms have been updated for the new .net programming environment. Some minor interface changes will be evident in this release, however the intention has been to match existing software functionality and presentation as closely as possible.
ARD Data and Settings Files Conversion –
Existing Customers ARD 2011.01 will make a copy of your current settings folder and the previous ARD Data for a project in the data format supported by ARD 2011.01. Your current project data can still be opened and edited using ARD 2010 (or previous), however all designs and edits made with ARD 2011.01 will occur in the data copy. ARD Settings Folder Conversion
The file format for many of the Settings files has changed, in preparation for enabling inclusion of the ARD settings inside the drawing file. The settings conversion process will occur automatically when you open an existing or start a new project. ARD 2011.01 will read the existing Common folder files and create a SUB FOLDER inside your current settings folder called Common-10 with the converted settings files it requires.
Note: Your current settings files will continue to be used for ARD 2010 and earlier versions.
ARD Data Conversion
When you open a current ARD project in ARD 2011.01 a message will display advising that the data is to be converted. The current data and folder structure will be unchanged. A copy of the data will be converted and placed in a folder named AdvRoads-10 and will be located in the same location as the current AdvRoads folder:
Note: Your current data files will continue to be used for ARD 2010 and earlier versions
ARD 2012.02/ARD 2011.17/2010.17
New Features The following new features are included in this release ARD Roads
Multiple, detachable cross section windows Users can now show many cross section windows for multiple roads, and can arrange them as desired on screen. All cross section windows will update as changes are made to the road long section or cross sections and operate at floating (modeless) windows. This functionality replaces the attached cross section that displayed with the Vertical Grading Editor. Middle mouse button provides zoom and pan control.
Commands include:
Open Cross Section Window
Ribbon: ARD Roads>Select Panel>Open Cross Section. Menu: Roads>Select/Open/Edit>Open Cross Section Window
This command allows the user to select an ARD Object (Road, String, Kerb Return, Cul-de-sac, Knuckle) and chainage and to display a cross section window for that ARD object and for the selected chainage.
Tile Cross Section Windows
Ribbon: ARD Roads>Select Panel>Open Cross Section Window Dropdown>Tile Cross Section. Menu: Roads>Select/Open/Edit>Tile Cross Section Window
This command sorts and presents the open cross section windows in a tiled arrangement, starting from the top left and sorting by ARD Object Name (Road, String, Cul-de-sac, etc) then Chainage. Order is top to bottom, then left to right
Open Cross Section Window
Ribbon: ARD Roads>Select Panel>Open Cross Section Window Dropdown>Close Cross Section Windows. Menu: Roads>Select/Open/Edit>Close Cross Section Window
This command closes all open Cross Section Windows
Cross Section Window Defaults
Ribbon: ARD Roads>Settings Panel Slideout>Cross Section Window Defaults Menu: Roads>Settings>Cross Section Window – Default View Settings
This command allows the user to establish what textual information is displayed when a cross section window is opened.
Cross Section Window Object Display
Ribbon: ARD Roads>Settings Panel Slideout>Cross Section Window Object Display Menu: Roads>Settings>Cross Section Window – Default Objects to Display
This command allows the user to display extra information in the cross section windows including extra surfaces, alignments, ARD Objects and pipe networks This command is also accessible from any open Cross Section Window
ARD 2012.02/ARD 2011.17/2010.17
Build Models A new Model Manager interface has been developed. Users can now create models using an interactive display – simply tick on/off the ARD Objects to include, then graphically select and edit portions of each Object to remove selected Codes. All Roads and Codes that are included in the model are highlighted, and trimmed/excluded Codes are greyed out. Edits are stored in a list and can be readily edited and viewed in the interactive display. You are able to save copies of the models and build surfaces in the drawing.
Build Models

ARD 2012.02/ARD 2011.17/2010.17
Improved Features The following features have been improved:
ARD Roads
Open Vertical Grading Windows. Previously this was achieved via the Select and Open the Vertical Grading Editor command.
Open Vertical Grading Window
Ribbon: ARD Roads>Select Panel>Open Vertical Grading. Menu: Roads>Select/Open/Edit>Open Vertical Grading Editor Window
o Command buttons have been revamped to open the following design windows:
Template Editor Cross Section Window Design Data Form
o The underlying graphics engine has been improved
Design Data Form o The design data form is now Modeless, so as changes are made in this
window all open Cross Section Windows will update. o The form has been revamped to include icons for many of the command
buttons o A Cross Section Synchronise button is included to do the following:
Open two Cross Section Windows that are set to react to the Start Chainage and End Chainage values for any entry in the design data form being edited
Whenever pressed, update the chainages of these two cross section windows to match the Start/End chainage of the current entry being edited.
o Command buttons have been included to open the following design windows Vertical Grading Editor Cross Section Window Template Editor
ARD Pipes
Kerb flow widths and depths were previously calculated using the parameter of „Road Code for Top of Drainage Pit‟ in the settings. There is now an extra field for the user to specify a separate code for the software to use in calculating the cross section to calculate kerb flow widths and depths
Blockage factor calculations have been improved. Previously, % blockage was applied to the inflow only, leading to inconsistent results in low flow situations. Now, the % blockage is applied to both the inflow capacity and gutter flow to better represent the pit performance when partially blocked
The Pit Tables tab of the Pipes Settings form now includes an import function to read in the gutter flow/inflow values from a file. The file format needs to be space or tab delimited, with two fields of information per row (gutter flow/flow depth inflow). This will facilitate easier transfer of data from Excel spreadsheets – save to a space/tab delimited file and import that file.
ARD 2012.02/ARD 2011.17/2010.17
Resolved Issues This installation resolves a number of bugs & issues, including: 64 Bit Support
This build is for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 customers running the software on a 64 bit computer. ARD has been reconfigured to operate in a 64 bit environment and without use of the Visual Basic (VBA) programming environment.
ARD Roads
An issue with incorrect section volume information on long sections has been resolved. Previously, the section volume information was provided based on all Road sections, instead of the road sections used for plotting
An issue with deleting legacy strings has been resolved. Previously, if a user set up legacy string controls and then removed the string, the software would not open the Road with the broken reference
Masking on cross sections has been re-enabled. Previously the masking did not apply during cross section plotting.
The Use Points command on the Add/Edit Roads form may not include the last point in a selected point group in some instances
In certain circumstances the text rounding on the cross section chainage can remove the trailing zeros to two decimal places, but display the third decimal place. This may occur for chainages that are within 6mm of a whole number
ARD Pipes
The blockage calculations have been adjusted to address concerns with the method of calculation. Previously, when a blockage factor was applied, this % factor was used to reduce the inflow capacity only. This results in immediate pit bypass occurring. The new calculation method applied the blockage reduction factor to both the flow to pit and inflow capacity
Some issues with incorrect bypass calculations have been resolved. There was an error summing up multiply split bypasses
An issue with pits not finding road cross sections has been resolved.
After importing changes from Watercom DRAINS users can now show this information on the long sections. Previously the software replaced the DRAINS outputs with the software‟s hydrology calculations
ARD Pipes expected a certain layer to exist in the ARD Layer List – this has been resolved
An issue with plotting parallel/crossing pipes on the long sections has been resolved. Previously, if the user plotted the long section downstream then the pipes did not display correctly on the long section.
ARD 2012.02/ARD 2011.17/2010.17
Known Issues The following is a list of known issues with the software ARD Roads
On some machines, a lag in the graphics can be experienced on larger jobs with multiple alignment controls – this is due to a recurrent drawing refresh in AutoCAD. Users can speed up the graphics update by turning off the UCS icon – type UCSICON at the command line and type Off
Retired Commands The following is a list of commands that have not been brought forward into the 2011.01 release:
