United Way Worldwide International President's visit

stUnited Way of Baroda, on 21 April had the privilege to host Mr. Jose Pedro Ferrao - The International President of United Way Worldwide who heads 46 countries and 1800 communities across the world. Mr. Saleem Khan, CEO of United Way India also accompanied him. He visited three project sites of UWB – The Born Learning Project providing nutrition and pre-school education to 1000 Anganwadi children implemented by partner NGO BCC wherein he participated with the children in painting and dancing. A tree plantation was also done. The second visit was at Medical Care Centre Trust supported by UWB that provides Quality Treatment To Poor Children at free of cost. The last visit was at Xavier Technical Institute wherein 100 underprivileged youth are supported for acquiring Technical Skills in various Trades. He motivated the children with a speech on “Opportunities” and “Giving Back” to the society.

He appreciated the work UWB has been doing and acknowledged the dedication of the staff members. Mr. Jose appreciated the work UWB has been doing for so long and said that people should acknowledge their work beyond Garba. He awarded 4 staff members of the organization for their contribution of more than 15 years to the organization.

Shishu Kit Project – Swastha Shishu Ek Pehel

The Shishu Kit project was inaugurated on Safe thMotherhood day on 11 April 2018 by

Lalitbhai Patel Foundation, with an aim of Promoting Healthy Nurturing of New Borne, and to improve quality care after delivery as most of the patients are underprivileged and do not come with preparation for delivery and clothes of New born. The kits contain 14 items –Bag, Baby clothes (2 sets of Shirts, nappies, gloves, caps), Baby wrap towel, Plastic mattress, Iron tablets, calcium tablets, and baby care awareness leaflet.

with various corporates -L M Wind Power, Gujarat Fluoro Chemical, INOX CVA and Supreme Industries to deepen 10 lakes and renovate 6 Check dams situated in 12 villages of Panchmahal District of Gujarat.

The Desilted soil was given to Farmers and Villagers for agricultural purpose, Rock silt was given to schools and villagers for front yards, road work and school levelling. Focused Group discussions with Community were conducted for building awareness on save water and tree plantation. The community was encouraged to take ownership for water conservation. Plantation drive was conducted to ensure greenery, Pledge and Rally was organised along with community for water conservation wherein various placards and lanyards were used

The efforts of UWB were appreciated for supporting the “Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan” by Government of Gujarat and a letter of appreciation was received.

Regular Awareness programs are being conducted on Nutrition for lactating Women of S.S.G Hospital. 40 IEC posters of Do's and Don'ts pasted in every ward of Rukmani Chainnani Prastuti Ghruh to create awareness and sensitize mothers.

Till date,1000 kits has been distributed to underprivileged women delivering at S.S.G Hospital. Proud Donor's Day has neen Initiated w h e r e i n e v e r y We d n e s d a y a U W B donor/beneficiary visits the hospital and donates a kit to the beneficiary. Medical equipment - E l e c t r o c a u t e r y m a c h i n e a n d Cardiocography machine were also donated and till date 1550 patients have been treated.

Awareness sessions were organized for community to know which type of plantations can be beneficial in holding ground water. UWB along with the community people Pledged to conserve water by planting trees and saving water, which was followed by a creative role play by expert team (Bhavai show) for sensitization of the community people on water conservation and its importance.

Plantation of Neem saplings were done surrounding the lakes to ensure greenery and to increase ground water level. A Rally on importance of water conservation was conducted, wherein various placards with slogans on “save water” were used.

Day of Action

United Way of Baroda (UWB) celebrated Day stof Action on 21 June 2018 as per the United

Way Worldwide mandate with the patients of the Hospital for Mental Health, Karelibaug, Vadodara. The Day of Action is a perfect opportunity to roll up the sleeves and let the actions speak louder than words. It's the best way to show what it means to LIVE UNITED.

The event was flagged off by playing the National Anthem. The Tree plantation drive was carried out by all the patients and staff of Hospital for Mental Health, UWB Team, Guests and Volunteers. Everyone ensured that they will care of the trees and balloons were releashed into the sky. A Yoga session was conducted wherein Yoga professionals from Yog Niketan gave a yoga session to all. A Mental Health patient also joined the Yoga Professionals on stage. A Musical show was conducted by Sony TV X-Factor Fame, Sajjda Sisters- Rekhha Raval and Group for the recreation of the patients. The musical show was highly enjoyed and cherished by all.

Medical Superintendent of Hospital for Mental Health also thanked and appreciated United Way of Baroda's efforts to spread smiles among the patients.

UWB initiated the Born Learning project in 10 Anganwadi centres of Sanand, Ahmedabad. The baseline survey has been initiated and an orientation program has been conducted with Anganwadi Workers and Helpers to know their expectation from the project. Inauguration of Sanitation Facility

Water, sanitation, and hygiene in schools create an enabling environment which secures children's dignity, safety, health, and attendance in classes. Scrutiny of Applicants for Interest free Education Loan

A total of 271 applications were received under United Fusion Study Foundation Project. These applications were scrutinized by trained project team to ensure that the applications are complete with all the supporting documents. The forms were segregated in two categories: Junior and Senior. Each application was reviewed in detail based on the eligibility criteria. 45% of household surveys were conducted to ensure that the neediest students avail the interest free loan.

The students were given A, B and C grades based on their suitability in terms of current school or college performance and economic status of the family. A total of 154 students were shortlisted for the interview.

Tree plantation was also carried out in the school to ensure Greenery. A Bhavai show was organised to emphasize on aspects of sanitation, necessity of cleanliness and hygiene. The trustees of Atladra Kedavni Mandal thanked UWB for their generous donation.
