Many exciting things are happening here at DCES. Our Scholastic, “Bookaneer” Book Fair, is taking place this week in the media center. All proceeds from the book fair go directly back into the media center and media resources.

HURRICANE MATTHEW RELIEF Mrs. Bird's 4th grade class is coordinating a community service project to help restock supplies to local organizations assisting those affected by Hurricane Matthew. Students have been working diligently, creating posters to hang in the halls of DCE, asking students and families to aid in this effort.

They have decided to donate needed items to St. Francis House in St. Augus-tine, The Humane Society, and Ponte Vedra High School (which is serving as a collection point for students in St. Johns who have been affected by the storm).

If you and your child/family would like to contribute, here are a list of supplies that are being requested:

St. Francis House (a homeless shelter): -canned food -bottled water -clothing of all sizes.

The Humane Society: -dog and cat food -blankets -toys and treats -adoptions!

PVHS: -shampoo/conditioner -soap -toothpaste/toothbrushes -deodorant -socks and underwear

Items will be accepted through October 28th . Students may drop off items in front of Mrs. Bird's classroom in Air House.

HELP US HONOR OUR veteranS!

The national holiday to honor our nation’s veterans is just around the corner. On Tuesday, November

8, Durbin Creek Elementary School will host its’ 12th Annual Veterans Day Program. If you know ser-

vice members, please invite them to this special program so that we may recognize them for their

service to our country. Complete the 2016 Veterans Information Form and return it to the school no

later than Monday, October 31, 2016.

Our program will start at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 8. Plan for veterans to arrive at DCES

9:00-9:15 a.m. They will enter the building through the double doors at the east end of the building

close to the field, and check in at the registration table. They will then be escorted by our Student

Council to a reception hosted by our PTO. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Oasis. The pro-

gram consist of two parts: the program will start in the cafeteria and then move to individual grade

level areas. In the case of siblings, we will send the older sibling to the younger sibling’s grade level

area. If a veteran has received any special awards, honors or noteworthy service that they would like

to share with the students, they are welcome to bring them.

Please submit a 2016 Veteran’s Information Form for each veteran that will be attending the ceremo-

ny. If you need more copies of the form, you may photocopy the original or it can be downloaded at

the Durbin Creek Elementary School home page: www-dce.stjohns.k12.fl.us.

All forms must be returned no later than Monday, October 31, 2016.

We thank you for your help in honoring our veterans! If you have any questions, please feel free to

contact Brooke Paget: [email protected]
