GOT CLOTHES?
If your child has required a change of clothes while at school for any reason, we need them back! We are especially low on our smallest sizes of tops, bottoms, and underwear. Please launder and send back any clothing items bor-rowed for your child, so that we may have them
ready for the next child who needs them.
Checking your child out
EARLY? No need to send this information to the dismissal change email address—please reserve that email for any changes in the way your child goes home at regular dismissal time.
Please note that we request all check-outs be completed before 2:20 (1:20 on Wednesdays). This allows us to complete attendance/dismissal change reports before students pre-pare for and move to their dismissal stations. It is often very difficult to lo-cate students or get them ready to leave early during the last 25 minutes. Classes are packing up, on the move, or winding up a lesson and reviewing homework assignments.
FAMILY FUN NIGHT

hosting a special version of our Family Fun Night! For any Durbin Creek parents who show their Key Tag when attending the event, they will donate 10% of the proceeds back to the school! Creative Me Art Studio is located in The Promenade at Bartram Springs shopping plaza just off Racetrack Road.

I hope that this finds each and every one well and getting back to a bit of normalcy from the storm. From what we can tell, Durbin families have been blessed and fared the weather quite well. If your family is in need of anything during this time, please reach out to your Durbin family. We are here to help in any way that we can. Many are asking what the plans are for make-up days. At this point, a decision has not been made. We will communicate this deci-sion as quickly as possible once it is published.
Many exciting things are happening here at DCES. Our Scholastic, “Bookaneer” Book Fair, is taking place this week in the media center. All proceeds from the book fair go directly back into the media center and media resources.
Please join the DCES and PTO for the Family Movie Night coming up this Friday, October 21st from 7-9 pm. This is always a great time to connect with family, friends, and others in the community. Please see the PTO website for more information.
This week marks the start of the second quarter of school. Please be on the lookout for report cards to be distributed Friday, October 28th.
Thank you all for your commitment to your child’s education. We are so fortunate to have
such great students and families to serve.

HURRICANE MATTHEW RELIEF Mrs. Bird's 4th grade class is coordinating a community service project to help restock supplies to local organizations assisting those affected by Hurricane Matthew. Students have been working diligently, creating posters to hang in the halls of DCE, asking students and families to aid in this effort.
They have decided to donate needed items to St. Francis House in St. Augus-tine, The Humane Society, and Ponte Vedra High School (which is serving as a collection point for students in St. Johns who have been affected by the storm).
If you and your child/family would like to contribute, here are a list of supplies that are being requested:
St. Francis House (a homeless shelter): -canned food -bottled water -clothing of all sizes.
The Humane Society: -dog and cat food -blankets -toys and treats -adoptions!
PVHS: -shampoo/conditioner -soap -toothpaste/toothbrushes -deodorant -socks and underwear
Items will be accepted through October 28th . Students may drop off items in front of Mrs. Bird's classroom in Air House.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Veterans Day is quickly approaching
and the letters have gone home, in-
viting veterans to our November 8th
program. See letter and form at-
tached at the end of today’s news-
letter. Thank you!
HELP US HONOR OUR veteranS!
The national holiday to honor our nation’s veterans is just around the corner. On Tuesday, November
8, Durbin Creek Elementary School will host its’ 12th Annual Veterans Day Program. If you know ser-
vice members, please invite them to this special program so that we may recognize them for their
service to our country. Complete the 2016 Veterans Information Form and return it to the school no
later than Monday, October 31, 2016.
Our program will start at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 8. Plan for veterans to arrive at DCES
9:00-9:15 a.m. They will enter the building through the double doors at the east end of the building
close to the field, and check in at the registration table. They will then be escorted by our Student
Council to a reception hosted by our PTO. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Oasis. The pro-
gram consist of two parts: the program will start in the cafeteria and then move to individual grade
level areas. In the case of siblings, we will send the older sibling to the younger sibling’s grade level
area. If a veteran has received any special awards, honors or noteworthy service that they would like
to share with the students, they are welcome to bring them.
Please submit a 2016 Veteran’s Information Form for each veteran that will be attending the ceremo-
ny. If you need more copies of the form, you may photocopy the original or it can be downloaded at
the Durbin Creek Elementary School home page: www-dce.stjohns.k12.fl.us.
All forms must be returned no later than Monday, October 31, 2016.
We thank you for your help in honoring our veterans! If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact Brooke Paget: [email protected]
