Adventure In Your Hand
Issue 2
Continued on Page 2
Today I intend to do a little bit of talking, certainly not 4 pages worth, and a lot of show-ing. We are doing great as an organization, not even half way through our first year. We have over 30 paid members, many of whom I have never
met or seen before. That in itself says that we are doing our job. We will continue with what we are doing and I have some great new ideas for more.
I have ordered some sample knives (new pro-duction) that I will be entered in the upcoming annual knife selection process. When is that going to be? That is for all of you to decide. At the February 20 meeting we will discuss and finalize plans for the selection process, guide-lines on price, and delivery timetables. The club will have knives made/ordered and will include an additional 2 knives. The 00 serial number knife (usuallly considered as a proto-type) will be the start of a collection owned by the club. The 1 serial number knife will be used as an auction or raffle fund raiser at one of the club shows. Members will be able to order the club knife for which they have a membership number. Should you desire to have more than one knife then that means you will have to be paying for more than one membership.
It has been suggested that the club have more than one annual knife. I don’t have a problem with that and will probably make that sort of decision based upon voting inter-est at the time of voting. That is unless all of you would rather have more than one knife per year.
T-Shirts are being finalized as I write this. Shirts will have a large logo on the back, a small logo on the front, and have a pocket. Sizes will be available to fit anyone, some larger sizes may require an extra dollar or
two. I am intending to have a couple at the next meeting.
Now onto the showing. I thought that it would be interesting to do some reprints out of my catalog collection. These might be all the time, or they might be here and there in the newsletters, and will continue until I run out (which will be a long while coming). If you have your own catalogs, be they makers, an-tique, or something nifty from a SHOT show a few years back, then we would be happy to see about getting them in the newsletter.
My catalogs are almost entirely not for sale, however I do want to buy more.
Some of you may have seen a few images out of one of the rarest knife catalogs in exis-tence recently in KnifeWorld. It is an 188_ Bea-ver Falls Knife Co catalog and it has pocket knives inside! I’ve owned the only two known to exist and I of course kept the one that has pocket knives. The other did not. That catalog will be shown later on. I’m not real keen on wanting to handle it all the time.

Today’s catalog is a 1960-1 Hubertus. Size is 7 x 8 3/4 with an expandable flat-wire bind-ing. It has heavy glossy covers with many line drawings of figures and buildings front and back. Inside cover has some scenes along the Rhein, back cover has a fabricator and his QA inspector posed. There are 24 leaves and a 1/61 marked price guide denominated in marks. Someone wrote on the spine with a sharpie and couldn’t even get the date right. I haven’t attempted to alcohol it off yet, but will some time. I forgot that I even owned this one!

We have had another great meeting and gained a few more members. Our table at Gun Shows is attracting a few new members at each show. We all need to bring friends and any possible new mem-bers to the club meetings.
Please bring anything you want to auction to the meetings. The auction schedule is on this page.
On the following pages you will find a com-pendium of knife laws taken from the book "Knife Laws of the Fifty States (A Guide for the Law-Abiding Traveler)" by David Wong, Esq. published by Authorhouse of Bloomington , IN. For further information and current law changes visit http://www.knifelawsonline.com/knifehome/. This table does not address local, municipal, and city laws, regulations, or ordinances. Please see the author’s book site for more detailed information.
