Letter from President of AIESEC Kazakhstan 2011-2012…

“5 years of activating youth leadership around the Kazakhstan.”

This year is a special year, when every moment creates the history and leaves the legacy with every action. Getting stronger from day to day, achieving more from year to year and bringing positive impact to youth of the Kazakhstan, those are one of the major goals of every AIESEC member, who works at National Level.

This year I have had a chance to work with great people who shared my DREAM towards the development of the organization. People who wanted to make the World a better place to live. It’s not so easy to be the first one to begin, but to continue it even harder. This year we were standing at the evaluating and questioning point of the future existents of the organization, breaking through the all challenges and overcoming the difficulties. And at the end I proudly can say that we together with my team did and achieved those goals that were hard to fulfill before.

Chance that I have had 5 years ago to join the organization and be a part of the AIESEC family, changed all my life. After those years being a member and now standing as a leader of the organization nationwide means a lot for me. Everyone has an opportunity, but not everyone using it. All my AIESEC Career I was ready to try and explore new, learn at every given chance and network with people from all around the world. I am happy that my DREAM is now coming true and every single young person in our country has an opportunity to be engaged with AIESEC.

Every year we offer to more than 150 young people to have a life changing experience and explore the other culture and countries. More than 200 active AIESEC members gets an unforgettable experience and needed knowledge and skills by leading the teams, organizing events, running projects. We are communicating with major universities all around the Kazakhstan and giving the chance to all the youth of the country to participate on our projects and get involved to the current world issues, work on self-development, gain soft skills and make new friends.

At the time when we are standing now, I just can say one thing that “AIESEC is the right organization for the right time in Kazakhstan; young people is the future leaders of our country and those ones to whom we need to invest now and rely in the future. We have a huge potential to be a top leading country in the world with our Innovative, Creative and Socially Responsible Youth.”

Additionally to that without any doubts and with honest gratitude I would like to thank those ones who were standing behind us from the beginning on and believed in us. Support and advice that we are getting from them are priceless, our partners as ATFBank, Imagine Web, Mad Group, Turkish Airlines and Beeline. Top leading companies in every own field have seen the professional work and passion, dedication of each member of the organization and most important that those companies cares about the Young people of our country and partners with us. Special appreciation I would like to address to the Board of Advisors of the AIESEC Kazakhstan, for being patient and attentive, supportive and cheerful, and simply for all their understanding.

“If you want to go-fast go alone, if you want to go far - go with team” – my Team who was brave enough to join this journey with me and make it till the Happy end! I specially would like to thank those beautiful individuals for all the time that we spent together.

From the bottom of my heart,Sincerely yours,

Saltanat ShamshiyevaPresident of Public Fund “Member Committee AIESEC KAZAKHSTAN”

Our history50’s After World War II, seven universitystudents from different parts of Europe start a pioneer initiative to exchange students between their home countries during summer to help promote cultural understanding. AIESEC isfounded during the first International Congressheld in 1948.

60’s Centered in Europe since the yearsof its foundation and with North America as a recent addition, promotional missions are sent to Asia, Latin/Central America and Africa to extend AIESEC to the rest of the world.

70’s AIESEC witnesses a renewed effortto further integrate the exchange experience together with member education and talent development in order to prepare AIESEC members in the business environment: projects are independently run at a local, national andregional level to address specific themes agreedamongst the global network of AIESEC countries.

80’s AIESEC broadens its services toincrease the efficiency of delivery time of trainees and meet the needs of students that would graduate in periods other than June or July for European and its surrounding regional countries by starting year-round exchange.

90’s AIESEC is initially established in Almaty in 1989 under AIESEC in the Soviet Union, giving the first steps in helping the development of socially responsible leadership within Kazakhstan’s youth.

00’s AIESEC in Kazakhstan is formallyrecognized as a separate entity at International Presidents Meeting 2007 (Egypt) and becomes an Official Member of AIESEC global network at the International Congress 2008 (Brazil).

Our ApproachIn partnership with business and higher education, AIESEC has over 60 years of experience in providing an innovative development process through our flexible and customized programs.

These programs are complemented by the opportunity for our members to participate in a global learning environment that increases the intensity of their experience.

The latter is comprised of individual discovery and self-reflection, learning circles, conferences/seminars, mentoring, virtual spaces, forums, blogs and resource sharing.

AIESEC in Kazakhstan 2007-2008

It will soon be five years since the moment AIESEC in Kazakhstan was officially recognized as a separate entity in the AIESEC world. I had a privilege to be the first official President of that young AIESEC country.

For me it was both an adventure (a young guy from Estonia going to a rather unknown country) as well as big personal and professional challenge. Many things had to be started from zero – and all that amid constant lack of all kind of resources. Money, people, internet and printer in the office... Even fridge was at first absent from the MC office/flat I lived in (and that “at first” lasted for about 4-5 months)…

However, having come to Kazakhstan I soon discovered that the Local Committee Almaty was a solid organization with the great young people leading it. It has provided both helpful platform as well as resources for building up AIESEC country as a whole.

My direct team was really small – two people, me and Maya Karimova. Later Altynai and Savva joined in as National Support Team. All in all, a real “bootstrapping”, as it is called in the business world!Despite all these limitations, we managed to build quite some bricks in the new “house” of AIESEC Kazakhstan. First external partners, first Board of Advisors, first National Conference (which turned to be a real success), first Annual Report, first national compendium, first Initiative Groups…

The Initiative Groups was definitely a special chapter in my year as a President of AIESEC in Kazakhstan. Thinking of it now, I can only compare it to conquering the Wild West in the 18th-19th century America – going for any available opportunities, grabbing people who could contribute, trying out, going to the next cities.... Since I was directly responsible for the extension to other areas in the country, I was also the one travelling around different cities in Kazakhstan and recruiting, motivating, selling… Not only did I get chance to enjoy the views on the vast steppes of Kazakhstan during multiple long train trips – I also got to work with people who wanted to do something bigger in their own cities. They did not know how, they did not know in what direction to go, they lacked all possible experience and resources – but many of them had a special sparkle in the eyes and the belief that this magical combination of the letters – A-I-E-S-E-C – was something unique. The Initiative Groups Astana, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kostanay and Pavlodar – it is different cities and different people now – but then it was special places for me.

The year in Kazakhstan has been a great adventure for me, a challenging – but rewarding – journey. More than anything else, I am especially happy for all the co-passengers I had in this journey – all members of AIESEC in Kazakhstan who worked with me in 2007-2008. We did great things – considering our age, our (lack of ) experience and our (lack of ) resources. And I am sincerely happy that AIESEC continues to provide this unique leadership opportunity to many more young people in Kazakhstan.

Truly yours,Deniss Rutšeikov

AIESEC in Kazakhstan 2008-2009

The term 2008/2009, the second National AIESEC term in Kazakhstan, the year I was President of AIESEC Kazakhstan - was the best of all time - for me, at least, as a personal experience.

I guess there are those times in your early life where something happens to you that shows beyond a doubt that you have a definite, unique role in the World, in your life, in your environment; - AIESEC Kazakhstan in 2008/2009, and all those that were a part of it, I have only to thank you.

I was a young Local President from Portugal, that had been foolhardy enough to go as far as Kazakhstan, a

place very few people in my circle had even heard about, for a development opportunity. I made the decision to come, once accepted, of course, and never looked back. In truth, I never did go back either - I am writing these lines from my bed on Rozebakiev Street in Almaty!

I had many ideas when coming here, charity wasn’t one of them, and it couldn’t have been... What I found in Kazakhstan, were the perfect conditions and society, and its people, to at least go all out for once and try something big! In AIESEC terms, that meant expanding - and expand we did, as we solidified or created as we could, 5 new AIESEC local offices across the country.

AIESEC then also sent or received 118 Interns during the term, almost 4 times as much as the previous year, and if the number pales in comparison to what AIESEC achieves these days, it meant a great deal of work, risk, patience and guts to achieve that year, for the first time ever.

It happens to many that have a complete, meaningful AIESEC experience in their youth, that they crystallize theseyears into a memory of bliss, where everything, including themselves was perfect and smooth, regardless of all the work, momentary uncertainties and effort. It also seems to happen to fewer of these, that they keep trying to go back to these times, as if they could not go any higher in terms of meaningfulness of what they do, for the rest of their lives.

In my life, and after AIESEC, because I never forgot how hard it was sometimes, I kept up the struggle, now in business and in building a family - and as that made me an ever better AIESECer at that time, it makes me a better person today!

Then again... who am I kidding? My wife is an AIESECer, My sister, My brother, My preferred business partners, mostof my best friends, all AIESECers... and everytime I do something great, that surprises even me in business, I alwaysthink... “that is probably cause you are talented and work hard Antonio... and because you once let yourself be the best AIESECer you could have been...”.

AIESEC in Kazakhstan 2009-2010

The National Team of AIESEC in Kazakhstan 2009-2010 consisted of outstanding members, such as Member Committee President, Luisa Orjuela. Originally she is coming from Colombia and wasinvolved with Central Asian culture, Kazakh people and eager to learn everything about country during 1year.

Member Committee President of ExternalRelations has been Zane Leikuma, originally comingfrom Latvia. She was gaining perspectives of theCentral Asian region and understanding of the mindset of business environment, which was not so easy. The useful network of smart next generation leaders is

still actual. Smart, persistent and creative, key features for external relationships, which allowed during the term achieving financial goals.

Member Committee Vice President of Exchange, Daniyar Makhkambayev was the one who was working closely with Entity development and increasing numbers of internships in our country. Smart and entrepreneurship Daniyar, brought lots of ideas and results to the team. The Member Committee Vice President of Finance was Saltanat Shamshiyeva. She was dealing with all the financial and legal issues. We have had during our term National Coordinator who wasdealing with new projects and communications, Sabina Butina.

When we started our work as National Team, we have had 6 cities around the Kazakhstan, such as Almaty, Karaganda,Ust-Kamenogorsk, Astana, Pavlodar and Kostanay. At the end of our term we were proud to state our achievement:— 202% growth in Exchange Program realization— Execution of 3 National conferences & 1 International (CAC Congress)— Raised 23.000 EUR for the Operational Bud-get.— Internal process stabilizing of the organization; wider perspective on project delivery on a national and the locallevel, and continuation of usage of an international platform for cooperation purposes within the AIESEC network.President experience in Kazakhstan was the most challenging experience that I could live within AIESEC. I hadthe opportunity to learn about a new culture, and I exposed myself to the most incredible challenge at a personal and professional level. I worked with amazing people: my team, Board of advisors and local entities, all together demanded everyday more results and more commitment from organization.

In few words, President’s experience, gave me most of all, resilience, to be able to manage all issues at the sametime; patience, to be able to work and wait for results and cultural understanding, there are lot of points to consider whenever living in a new culture, it is you adapting to them, and learning history and traditions, to be able to understand behavior and enjoy all facts of new culture.

Sincerely,Luisa Orjuela Urrego

AIESEC in Kazakhstan 2010-2011

Home to over 130 nationalities, vibrant in its diversity of cultures, races, religions and lifestyles and abundant in the supply of accessible resources, the Republic of Kazakhstan has made significant progress toward reinventing itself as a thriving nationsince its independence, back in 1991.

From an early stage in such transformation,AIESEC - initially established in Almaty in 1989under AIESEC in Soviet Union – positioned itself as a positive catalyst in its due scale and scope, by being one of the few opportunities for students and recent-graduates across campus in Kazakhstan to explore their leadership potential.

After AIESEC in Kazakhstan was formally recognized as a separate entity in 2007, 4 generations before ours had found support over the years in an increasingly collaborative network of business and higher education inorder to undergo countless team and management experiences, volunteer/work abroad through almost 300 internships and interact with 60 international interns hosted in their cities of study.

“Leading the organization in Kazakhstan at this point of such high standards will demand I put my best foot forward to provide the most suitable leadership AIESEC in Kazakhstan calls for nowadays to fulfill its potential of performance. It will come as an opportunity to further contribute for a positive impact in society in a way that is relevant and meets society’s needs.” – I said at some point, back in 2010.

Eager for a solid growing curve in our results in an effort to translate that intention into reality, I surrounded myselfby the best people: Madina Kaliyeva and Sabina Smagulova - the most wholehearted individuals that I have had the pleasure to work, live and learn with - and a generation of AIESECers who were encouraged to replicate existing projects, pilot new ones and take bold steps to reach uncharted territory in Kazakhstan. And so we did. Between July 2010 and April 2011, AIESEC in Kazakhstan surpassed previous records in numbers of students going abroad for their internship in every quarter of the period of reporting; found a new peak for incoming realizations in Winter that would allow us to achieve, in 9 months, the equivalent to 1/3 of the total of internships ever realized in our history as an AIESEC country; and ensured a membership base of 200 volunteers from 7 cities in Kazakhstan by the end of our journey.

Looking back, although the projects I embraced throughout my nearly five-year experience in AIESEC differed inchallenge and core work, I firmly believe they have all - and this one in particular - influenced how I think as an individual and interpret the connection between new information, my actions and their results, nurturing me to become more confident in the process of learning by doing, far more enterprising and therefore better equipped to succeed in my future endeavors.

Taking all that into account, I would like to express my gratitude again to all AIESEC partners, supporters, Alumni and members for your efforts to support the development of this organization in the world – and specifically, in the cities of Kazakhstan. I greatly appreciate your generosity.

Term 2011/2012 was a fifth in history of AIESEC in Kazakhstan. The celebration of 5th Anniversary of AIESEC in Kazakhstan started in the first week of May and continued throughout 5 following weekends. We would like to emphasize the community development which AIESEC has brought to several of its stakeholders in the whole country.

Our program consisted of four events organized in four weeks preceding the National Conference in the end when we were evaluating performance of the organization.

• Bringing beginning – we have been planting the trees to symbolize the beginning of AIESEC in Kazakhstan as well as we put the stress on our values as one of the main principles of our organization is Acting Sustainably.

• Act Globally – by collecting positive stories recorded by participants of Global Community Development International Exchange Project, we were showing what AIESEC can offer to students willing to spend their internship abroad working in social projects with local communities.

• Connect business – AIESEC wields the role of the platform connecting business with the youth of Kazakhstan. We were organizing several projects to bring closer two of our enablers, companies and students. With third event we were reminding ourselves the impact we have made among students who achieved success with help of Development Leadership Day and other business oriented projects.

It was a unique experience, and thisproject brought me a lot of new feelings, unforgettable emotions, important and totally new skills as I was working with not so usual children - underprivileged kids and handicapped kids. It seems a little bit difficult to participate in the project with children with such health problems and work with people, with whom you do not have any common language, but this became our wonderful experience. It was great to feel yourself both teacher and student at the same time, to learn how to work with difficult children, but to feel their love and every morning have lots of hugs and smiles.

Outgoing Exchange Country - destinationsIn 2011 - 2012, we have sent

students and recent graduates for internships to more than

twenty countries, where TOP fivecountry-destinations are

India, Malaysia, Poland, Turkey and Mainland of China,

respectively.

My internship in Vale Oman impliesvariety of tasks with a great degree of responsibility and certain number of challenges. The grates opportunity for my personal development is my involvement into VPS program, which relates to internal HR audit. On the other hand it is the biggest challenge for me, because it is my responsibility to develop action plan, to direct people and follow them up. I woulddescribe working environment as up to international standards. My supervisors are very attentive to interns’ personal issues and encourage open and friendlyinteraction among team members.Yernat Yestekov,

“I went for an internship in a company that is our global partner and one of the leaders in the telecommunication market: Alcatel-Lucent in Vienna, the main office, responsible for the vast territory from Norway to Turkmenistan. In just a couple of months, I feel I have learned in the professional field more than a year’s worth of studying at the institute! My internship gave me the opportunity to look inside the industry, enhance their technical knowledge and get to know people in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.”

Incoming ExchangeWe like statistics, numbers and figures, but in the bottom line it’s all about impact, after all is all about the footsteps we have left in someone’s life. The journey of last 12 months of AIESEC in Kazakhstan was a story full of ups and downs, of learning points, of moments of humble and joy, more of joy. Its unique impact has changed individuals, make them grow, make them become a bit better people, enabled them to make the world around a bit better place.

Incoming Exchange Department 2011-2012 – successful story of persistence, unity and ambition.

In year 2011/2012 Incoming Exchange Department consisted of two National Coordinators, five Local Committee responsible as well as over 10 project leaders and its teams. People who were working harder than ever and who had become family.

In term 2011-2012 Incoming Exchange of AIESEC in Kazakhstan has decided to

become an unique platform connecting all AIESEC’s stakeholders to ensure its growth.

There were various initiatives and project where interns from more than 10 countries could interact with local community of Kazakhstan.

Also it would not have been achieved without foundational work of each department’s member as the exchange process is being delivered mainly by the local committees. For that reason having in mind the goals, ICX department had to work on education of members and their understanding of the organization purposes. National Team of two National Incoming Exchange Coordinators (Elina Jazybaeva and Harmeet Jangla) as well as its Member Committee Vice President were able to create a feeling of unity and support among local responsible and, with no doubts; that was their the biggest success.

Working day by day number of people was enabled to come, have impact on their life and bring change to their surrounding here in Kazakhstan as well as there, wherever they are now. Interns were changing and growing personally and professionally which was the most rewarding for department’s members. Also, seeing bright smile in their faces was a motivation to strive for more every day, to run an extra mile, to make one more phone call, to have energy to deliver the promise.

OUR PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES

With experience of 5 years ofAIESEC in Kazakhstan Incoming

Exchange is about promiseorganization delivers to our

members, interns, companies, schools… This year, Incoming

Exchange Department hasdelivered something more than just

a promise. We have achieved abreakthrough result and delivered

a unique feeling of success.

A volunteer project concerning ecological awareness of students from high schools of Kazakhstan being run in all the country for last two years. During it international trainers were conducting workshops about current environmental situation in the world as well as in Kazakhstan, which in the end encourages youth of Kazakhstan to have more proactive approach towards their national heritage. This year the project was realized in January – March in Karaganda, Taraz and Oral. In overall 10 international volunteers were participating from Colombia, China, Poland, Taiwan,Hungary and Ukraine.

Two months which I spent in the middle of silk trackfrom East Asia to Europe were very full of surprises and

adventures.

The cold, fresh air of Kazakhstan welcomed me on8th February at Astana Airport. Indeed, winter in there

can be a challenge to survive with its temperature of-40C. The recipe for strength – national dish from horse

meat – bieshbarmak and liters of addictive tea.

In Kazakhstan you can experience never endingwhite steps and landscapes like from Hollywood

films – great wild canyons and undiscovered snowymountains. You will be welcomed by families as a

friend and leaving as the family member.

Kazakhstan is a place for real travelers who canenjoy and discover undiscovered!

Generation 350

XXIT – social media projectThis project is concerning the usage of internet andsocial media. Based on researches it was visible that ifyoungsters are using the internet, it is being done for leisure purposes. There is a drawback in terms of information around following topics: 1. Internet (educational possibilities, Internet banking, privacy in the network, Safety rules, Internet shopping etc.) 2. Social media (addictions, privacy rules, networking possibilities)

For that we presented the workshops based on methods of alternative learning facilitated by International students.

The target group for the project was students from theuniversity and high school (different workshops for high

school and for university as well as different case studies).

The project started in May and finished in April. Two entities Almaty and Karaganda were participating

CommunicationsIn term 2011-2012 the Communication department started its operation on national level for the first time sincefoundation. The Communication department is split into internal and external communication. The main focus is on increasing the popularity of AIESEC among students, companies and the society in general in Kazakhstan. Thus, building up cooperation with different media-partners as well as proper branding and communication of AIESEC are essential. To achieve this, the communication department is responsible for development and delivery of promotion and branding campaigns, designing all types of marketing materials, improving our homepage and moderating activities of our social media channels. The goal is not only to be present outside of AIESEC but also to inform our members about important events and various issues concerning our country through information management tools such as newsletters, blogs and webpage.

WebpageIn term 2011 - 2012 the biggest achievement in communication area was the launch of our new webpage: www.aiesec.kz; which is technically supported and developed by our national partner “Imagine Web” and interface of which is designed by an independent designer: Boris Klimov. The webpage was launched in February 2012; there are two version of the webpage in two languages: Russian and English. In order to increase virtual engagement with our stakeholders, this year AIESEC in Kazakhstan started own official pages on three key social media channels: facebook, twitter, vkontakte; with emphasis on presence on facebook as we are international organization. Since AIESEC is operating in more than 110 countries and territories and we deliver international exchange programs, it is very essential for us that Kazakhstan will be known among the network not only as a place where AIESEC has its regional and local offices but as a country as such.

During 2011 - 2012 we were focusing on supporting our Incoming Exchange (ICX) department to attract international youth for international exchange opportunities inside of Kazakhstan. The task was not easy as we faced with challenges in terms of very low level of knowledge of Kazakhstan and number of different stereotypes.

Country Branding

As a result we came out with a number of promotion and marketing materials for international youth for each exchange project in order to attract people from all over the world who are willing to break stereotypes and seek for adventurous experience. All promotion materials were distributed online via internal communication channels and as a result we observed the growth in realization of internships in Incoming exchange department.

During the term we were working on improvement of National Brand of AIESEC Kazakhstan on the whole AIESECnetwork. We were organizing survey all around the world to have an opinion of people, what they know and what they think about us. Below you can find one of the examples of promotion materials that we were creating and publishing.

Finance

Financial year of AIESEC Kazakhstan begins from 1st of July and until 30th of June the following year. Our financialsustainability is stronger this year due to right planning and refinancing of our resources. During this year we managed to realize all the planned events and generated additional source of income. For the first time Member Committee started to realize the International Internship Program in the National office for the students who do not have AIESEC in their cities. From one side we are giving more opportunity to young people and from the other side we are increasing income of national budget.

The main stream of income for this year was sponsorship support from our partners.
