The aim of ALiMAccelerated Learning in Math

• To accelerate the students’ learning in Math as opposed to remediating – filling the gaps.

• Pre-load students with knowledge to move forward.

Approach• Target students identified• Pre-testing carried out - PAT and

GloSS• 2 out of class withdrawal

groups – 30 minutes per day, on top of in-class Math groups, for 10 weeks

• 1 in-class monitoring group 10mins per day

Withdrawal Group Aims

• Positive learning environment where students feel comfortable with taking risks

• Change the mindset of the students

• Develop ‘talk moves’ between students and teachers

Starting the Journey: • Safe and Supportive environment • Interview students - what were

their perceived barriers to learning? Lack of reading skills and understanding of mathematical language identified as being major barriers – student voice

• Risk taking• Mistakes are new learning

intervention• Gains were between 6 months and 2
