Since 1964, Michael Graves, the world-famous American architect and designer, has been the creative mind behind more than 300 buildings worldwide. Michael Graves & Associates employs over 100 people in offices in Princeton, New Jersey and New York City, and has won over 180 awards for design excellence. They have worked on a host of prestigious projects including the Washington Courthouse, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Trump International Hotel and Tower. Michael Graves is also one of the New York Five, a group of five New York City architects whose work appeared in a Museum of Modern Art exhibition in 1967 and the subsequent book Five Architects in 1972.

Arquitectonica is bringing the hallmarks of its distinctive style to Allegria, emphasizing structures that are bold and graphic in form. Distinctively conceived for Allegria, the main design principle bases itself on shifting volumes and layers. Linear entrances extend throughout the houses, connecting the interior spaces to the exterior gardens. Every room houses large expanses of glass capturing light and offers views of the pool and garden areas. Roof terraces, double height foyers, and long rising open stairs add to the dramatic and progressive modernist appeal of the designs. Mark Mack and his design team are recognised for thoughtful, elegant architecture that emphasises the integration of built form and environment. Clarity of form, simplicity of construction and an appreciation of tradition, climate, and materiality give Mack’s architecture a quality of timelessness.

Mark Mack’s reputation was established in the California Bay Area with a series of villas designed with former partner Andrew Batey (Batey & Mack) in the 1980’s. Kamel Consultants and Research Group (KCRG) is a medium-scale architectural firm providing a variety of unique services to its clients. KCRG is primarily specialised in educational, retail, residential, sports and leisure buildings. Besides design and technical support, KCRG provides detailed research, evaluation and assessment services to clients to help them identify their needs and set their priorities. The firm stresses on quality control and continuous monitoring of all processes involved since the start of a project until a post occupancy assessment is conducted.

Shahira H. Fahmy’s designs aim to establish balance between new spatial concepts and existing context in almost all aspects of urban design. Shahira is able to work on various levels: concept design, construction supervision and research-based designs. After working as an architect with the leading engineering firm in the Middle East, Dar El Handasah for over 3 years, she established her own private architectural practice: Shahira H. Fahmy architects based in Cairo, Egypt, providing architecture, interior design and furniture design. She has taken part in milestone projects such as AUC’s new campus in New Cairo and her firm has won many awards since its founding. Most recently Shahira’s firm won the MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards 2009 in the category of “Regeneration and Master Planning Category” for her work on SODIC and Solidere’s WESTOWN Block 36, in Cairo, Egypt.

Tamer Anani is an architect who believes in creating environments that enhance positive energy and spiritual well being. His central concerns involve a combination of practice, teaching and research. Tamer Anani began his career with the Egyptian architectural firm, Farouk El-Gohary (FG Architects), working on several projects throughout Egypt and the Middle East including Luxor Airport, Ministry of Finance Towers and Mubarak City for Education. Tamer completed his graduate studies and earned a Masters Degree in Construction Engineering with honours at The American University in Cairo. In 2004, he set up his own practice and founded XIN STUDIO 8 in Cairo that encompasses all fields of design, ranging from urban scale all the way through to products, interiors and furniture. He is currently SODIC’s very own in-house Director of Architecture and Landscape for EASTOWN and WESTOWN.

After spending several years working in Istanbul gaining experience in the conversion and restoration of buildings, Laithy Mekawy began his own private practice in 2006. The Laithy team is young, dynamic and creative, and enjoys the challenges that come with intricate and diverse projects. Their work ranges from architectural design and planning to the conversion of old structures such as their work in Istanbul, Turkey; there, Laithy worked on building new residential compounds, and restoring and transforming old buildings in the capital into updated and modernised lofts. In Egypt the firm is working on a diverse number of projects ranging from a resort and shopping district on Egypt’s North Coast, to residential villas in Sharm El Sheikh.

Allegria is a world-class award-winning development. In 2007 EDAW, a global leader in the fields of landscape architecture, urban design and environmental planning, received an award for its Allegria master plan from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). EDAW brings Allegria’s contemporary, asymmetrical master plan and landscaping to life, with another potentially award-winning feat.

Even golf courses have a seal of approval or a mark promoting their quality; in this case, a Signature from an exceptional golfer after whom the course is named, thus verifying its high standards. So it was with great pride that our golf course named ‘The Allegria’ was designed as a signature course – the first of its kind in Egypt – by legendary golfer, Greg Norman. Norman spent 331 weeks as the world’s no. 1 golfer in the 1980’s and 1990’s, earning himself the nickname of “The Great White Shark”. He recently demonstrated his skill after finishing tied for third place at the 2008 British Open.

In 1987, his company, Greg Norman Golf Course Design (GNGCD) was established, becoming one of the world’s premier signature golf course design firms, and is proudly the designer of the stunning 18-hole golf course situated at the heart of Allegria.

Streams, rock features, vegetation and undulating topography are the natural elements implemented in the design of ‘The Allegria’. Innovative methods are constantly sought to utilise the greatest number of trees on a site, rather than eliminate them.

Believing in context and in letting the nature and culture of a site influence design ideas, they carry the responsibility of knowing the ecology of a site and its surroundings, understanding its traditions and materials, and combining them in ways that extend use and lifetime.

Sites International is a multi-disciplinary consultancy firm specialised in designing integrated environments to produce works of functional and visual harmony. Sites International were chosen for their unique design process that has evolved over the years by a team of thirty design and management professionals who specialise in architecture, urban design, site planning and landscape architecture.

Greenscape is a joint partnership company with SODIC, catering to all landscaping and design needs for high-quality residential and mixed-use projects including Allegria.
