8.9 millionaffected
5.4 millioncontinue to struggle
2.7 million children suffering (UNICEF)
850,000 intemporary shelters(only 15% of total suffering population)
1.8 millionhomes harmed
8,800 schoolsdamaged
31,000 villagesdestroyed
6.8 million acres under water
(no more crops this year)
2.2 million acres ofrice, vegetables, lentils, and
sugar-cane crops damaged (i.e. 80% of crops)
433 dead637 injured& counting
112,000 cattle-headsperished & counting
UNO has asked for $357 million emergency
assistance
World donors have given only $58 million(16% of the amount asked by UNO)
BBC Reporter Orla Guerin reported this week:
“If the world keeps looking the other way, hundreds &
thousands of children will remain in danger of loosing their lives”
