Discovery: Athens. Explore the birthplace of democracy. See Athens Academy, the University of Athens and the National Library,Athens’ famous neoclassical trio. Greece’sclassical past provided inspiration for the design. At the Acropolis Museum, gaze downthrough glass flooring to study the ruins of anancient neighborhood. Ascend the gleamingAcropolis, dedicated to the goddess Athena,and admire the classical architecture of theParthenon. While touring, stop for lunch at alocal restaurant to sample Greek specialties.

This afternoon, take a scenic drive through the countryside to Peloponnese, the storiedGreek peninsula. In the town of Galatas, boarda ferry for the short ride (only a few hundredyards!) to the island of Poros. Check in to the New Aegli Hotel.

Enrichment: Greek Art. Trace Greek culturethrough the ages as reflected in its art.

Discovery: Poros Town. Meander alongstreets lined with whitewashed homes in Poros Town and tiny St. George Square. Passbustling shops near the shimmering channeland tour the Archaeological Museum of Poros.

Enrichment: Meet the People. Sit down fora delicious lunch with island residents at a localtaverna. Enjoy traditional food and conversationas you gain insights about life in Greece.

Free Time: Explore more of Poros Town on your own or relax on beautiful Askeli beachby the hotel.

Epidaurus | Nafplio

Enrichment: Greek History. Examine keyperiods and influential figures of the modern-day republic.

Discovery: Epidaurus. Set among pine-cladhills, Epidaurus is renowned for its ancient theater. Built in the fourth century B.C., thisclassical Greek masterpiece is still in use and seats up to 14,000 people. The acoustics arephenomenal; a coin dropped at the center ofthe stage can be heard in the highest seat.

After exploring Epidaurus, tuck into a delectable lunch of Greek cuisine.

Discovery: Nafplio. Marvel at coastal Nafplio, situated on a rocky peninsula juttinginto the Argolic Gulf. This historic city brieflywas the first capital of Greece during the Warof Independence after Greek forces wrested it from Ottoman control in 1822. Soak up the town’s charming, medieval ambience as you see ancient castles and neoclassical mansions. Witness yards adorned withbougainvillea trees, balconies and Turkishfountains. Admire the prominent profile of hilltop Palamidi Castle. After a walking tour,spend some time exploring on your own.

Return to Poros. Your evening is at leisure.

Hydra

Take a water taxi from the hotel to the port,followed by a hydrofoil ride to nearby Hydra.

Discovery: Hydra. Cruise to Hydra, a lovelygem of the Saronic Gulf. This car-free island is celebrated for its exquisite harbor and superbstone architecture clinging to its slopes. Visitthe National Archives for a glimpse into the18th- and 19th-century history of both Greece

and Hydra. Afterward, find your own speciallunch spot and enjoy some free time.

Return to Poros by hydrofoil and then take a water taxi to the hotel.

Enrichment: Greece Today. Understandthe current issues influencing Greek life.

Tonight, dine at a restaurant on the island.

Mycenae

Discovery: Mycenae. Explore the amazingruins of one of Greece’s greatest civilizations,Mycenae, a mighty Bronze Age kingdom. This wealthy city flourished in the second millennium B.C. as its naval power extendedits influence throughout the Mediterraneanand into Asia Minor. According to legend,Mycenae was home to Agamemnon, the king who conquered Troy.

Discovery: Greek Wine. At a highly regarded winery, delve into the world of fineGreek varietals during a tasting and lunch.

Enrichment: Greek Night. Conclude your incredible week at an entertaining “glendi,” or party. Listen to a live band playing spiritedfolk music and watch dancers performing traditional numbers. If you’d like, learn thesteps and join in!

Corinth Canal | Athens

Discovery: Corinth Canal. As you headback to Athens, see the Corinth Canal, which separates the Peloponnese from the mainland. Opened in 1893, it connectsthe Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf.

After tickets are issued, penalties up to 100% of the ticketprice may be levied. If connecting flights are requested, special promotional fares may be used, in which case penalties of as much as 100% may be assessed by the airlines if reser-vations are changed or canceled after ticketing. After departure, if the reservations are changed, you will be charged the higher, all year Economy class fare. Passengers who choose to make their own airline reservations independently will be whollyresponsible for arrival and departure transfers, and any airline fees or penalties incurred as a result of program cancellation and/or change in travel dates, or airline schedule(s).BAGGAGE-Baggage restrictions vary according to the airline policy and the class of service flown. By participating in this travel program, you authorize AHI Travel, without providing compensation to you, or obtaining additional approvals from you, to include photographicand video recordings of you, as well as voice recordings included with any videos, in AHI Travel's sales, marketing, advertising, publicity and/or training activities.RESPONSIBILITY-AHI Travel and the Sponsoring Association do not own or operate any entity which provides goods or services for this program, and act only as agents for the inde-pendent suppliers of travel conveyance, transport, accommodations or other services. All such persons or entities are independent contractors. As a result, AHI Travel and the Sponsor-ing Association are not liable for any negligence or willful act of any such person or entity or any third person. No revisions of the printed itinerary or its included fea-tures are anticipated; however, the right is reserved to make any changes, with or without notice, that might become necessary, with the mutual understanding that any additional ex-penses will be paid by the individual passenger. Baggage and personal effects are the sole responsibility of the owners at all times. If the entire program is canceled for any reason,participants shall have no claim other than for a full refund. By forwarding the deposit, the passenger certifies that he/she has no physical, mental or other condition of disability thatwould create a hazard for himself/herself or other passengers and accepts the terms of this contract set out herein and in more specific pre-departure passenger information. The air-lines and other transportation companies concerned are not to be held responsible for any act, omission, or event, during the time passengers are not on board their conveyances. Thepassage contract in use, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the company(ies) and the passenger and/or purchaser of this trip.CANCELLATION-All cancellations for any reason will be subject to a $350 (AHI-$250, UCLA-$100) per person administrative fee. You may choose, at the time of cancellation, to applythe withheld administrative fee to a future AHI Travel program that will operate in the current calendar year or year following. Cancellation from 120 days to 76 days prior to departurewill result in forfeiture of 10% of the entire cost of the trip per person; 75-30 days, 50% of the trip cost per person; cancellation from 29 days up to the time of departure will result in100% forfeiture of the entire cost of the trip. TRIP CANCELLATION INSURANCE IS AVAILABLE. AN APPLICATION WILL BE SENT AFTER YOU RESERVE. All cancellations must be submit-ted in writing to AHI Travel. CANCELLATION OF TRIP OPTIONS-Purchases of optional excursions, trip extensions and additional hotel nights become fully non-refundable 45 days prior todeparture.
