Sustainability is a key component of all future developments. Urban design focuses on development which are sustainable and environment friendly whether by incorporating new technologies or by going back to traditional concepts.

Metropolitan cities like Delhi Mumbai Kolkata etc have grown multiple times beyond their capacity and has been facing large issues like poverty, slums, traffic, lack of safety & security, loss of livability factor etc. Bodies like DUAC are formed to keep a check on this rapid urbanization.

Cochin is fast growing into a metropolitan which will end up with a similar fate as the metropolitans.

Aluva being a sub city of Cochin is soon going to have a big impact from this development of Cochin. We as urban designers think that this is the right point at which the city can be guided, planned and designed to accommodate this large changes.

Aluva(formerlyAlwaye), is asuburbofKochiin theErnakulam districtofKerala,India. Located on theRiver Periyar, Aluva is the industrial epicentre of the state. A major transportation hub, with easy access to all major forms of transportation, Aluva acts as a corridor which links thehighland districtsto the rest of the state.

Traffic and congestion issues.

No efficient Public transport networksand not Pedestrian & cycling friendly

Neglected or disconnected from northern parts of the city across the river.

It has become a transit point and is not becoming a livable city..

Proposed pedestrian link connecting available land areas along the river. This includes flood plains of shivaratri Manappuram, Periyar club site, Water Authority areas, Pump house, Town hall, palace precincts, existing park of GCDA.
