November 2016
Fay McNulty was born and raised in London, England, just before World War II.Her family evacuated to Ipswich for four and a half years when World War II brokeout. She returned to London and was again sent to Wales. Fay attended tradeschool for dress making but did not enjoy it. (Do not ask her to sew!) She moved tothe United States in 1953 and worked in retail, which she loved because of theinteraction with people. She worked in shoes and sportswear in Oak Park, and alsoat Boise Cascade office products for 18 years. This was her very favorite position –they gave her 18 roses when she retired! In 1956 she met her husband, Don. Theywere married for 54 years before he passed away. She has three children, sixgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Fay and Don’s first apartment was inBerwyn, Illinois. They moved to Melrose Park and into their first house, Wooddale, then over to Itasca. From there they moved to Missouri, where they lived for19 years. Fay had their church involved in the Cherry Blossom Festival Teas. Thechurch honored her with a medal and certificate when she moved away. Shemisses those festivals to this day. Fay has lived at Cedarlake for two years andsays being at Cedarlake is like being with family. She loves being an Ambassador, which gives her the ability to interact with other people. She initiated “Happy Hour”on Saturday nights, loves to color, creates greeting cards, and plays Bingo. Whenasked the most important thing she ever learned, her response was learning to tryto be more open to people by “letting go and letting God.”
