Theersuing eme rgency calls for a bit of economy; in ou r lite ratu re and weare forthwith streamlining "u s" to conform with said ne cessi ty. So , con-tinued happy reading (and writin g us 1) and Good luck!GOSSIP HERE AND THEREThere's no doubt abort it the good news on all war fronts is like atonic and we've never had such a big batch of hap py, optimistic mail. That faithful old amphibian, NORMAN MAYO S l/o is keeping up hi s repu-tation by writing us each month, even if we h &ve n Tt caught up with himsince February. After a good job of Coast Guarding around the Haw aii anend Marshall I slands, Norman has moved again but can't tj.ll us whe re.Swimming and baseball doesn't sound hard to t^ke, even If the scenerydoesn't lock exactly like Taylor Park, but we're still hoping someMillburn face will peek around a coconut palm one of those days. Manythanks, Norm, and keep up the good work.Sgt. ANDREW GOULD is another of our faithful writers who , telieve it ornot, .apologizes for not writing last month on acco unt of being bus y!Doesn't that give your consciences a twinge? Of ocurse our middle nameisn't Pinke rton but fr om the lust line in you:." let ter we (re wonder-lagif you mightn't be lurking around I ndia. Wherev er you are , life does-n't sound too tough what with a Red Cross c lub , mov ies three times aweek and a FX which serv^n up cigarettes (along with beer, cokeo andother dainties). Just the first mentioned is enough to blind us withtears or mayb e it' s this cheroot we're smoki ng v/hioh taste s like awell-used blanket. down in Corpus Christi. George would like nothing: better than to meeta Short Hills WAVE at this point because he says "I hate Texas women.ir""Naturally we're just catty enough to purr over that one because wealways figured anything with a Southern drawl had an edge on us. Well, good' luck and happy hunting, George.H. B. GALLISON S 2/c (R.M.) is at present exposed to Southern hospitel--r-ity near Norfolk, Va. and could probably stand meeting a few localWAVES himself. Bailey says all he's seen are lots and lots of sailorswith civilians outnumbered seventy-five to one 5 but oven with suchdepressing, odds we'll bet on you to get a nice date any time.W. L;' McDONALD, S l/c is cruising; around on an L.C.I, not a L.C.T. aswe foolishly told you before. Anyhow, Bill is on the move regardlessof what he's on, so hie postman is a pretty active l i t t l e fellowespecially when he delivered the December Tattle one day and the Janu-ary issue1 the very next - now that is really tr icky, don't you think? Why not tie up to the nearest palm and give the poor guy a chanc'e tobring you up to date. I t shouldn't take more than a few days at therate he works.Prompt as ever, S/Sgt. JOEY M. DE VITO says that the six months are upso he hurriedly writes uso Two letters a year doesn't exactly crowdthe mail box with De Vito mail but who are we to complain, any crumbJoey tosses us is appreciated and we're not kidding (too much)I May-be he's just paying us back since the last Tattle to find him was datedlast Septemberi After a nice visit in Australia Joe is now in theS.W.P.A. and says everything is swell except for the outsize mosquitoes.Everything is swell here, too, and if this warm weather keeps up thisyear's crop will probably match even the mosquitoes you've got. Well, thanks a lot and we'll be looking for your next---in September.S/Sgt. RAYMOND CARRISRE writes us from Germany so we're pretty im-pressed to think he had time to catch his breath, much less to thankus. Ray has been overseas well over two years and has travelled inEngland5 France, Belgium and Luxembourg1, we're dee-lighted to hearthat the town he's in now hasn' t a house standing and the surroundingtowns are just as bad. Maybe we're not humane, but will you pardon usfor taking time out to cheer? Thanks for the letter and write wheneveryou have time, even if you aren' t a resident of Millburn we enjoy hear-ing from you and appreciate your writing that much more.Pvt. E. H. PIKAART is a modest fellow when he V-Mails us from Franceto say nothing ever happens that's important enough to interest us.With that shy opening Pic mentions that he' s living in a cozy hay loftand that the town,? near-by were pretty badly hit by the war. i3oy! hov*we differ J If we spent one night in a hay loft we'd spread the newsall over town for weeks,JOHN R, BRAY, 8 l/c V-M ila us from Austr ilia to say that although he'salready toured throe quai't&rrj of the way around ths V/orlo :>.' In case you've forgotten, he's on K.P. duty which is called something different in the,' 'ine Corps and must be :au:ii different than the Army K.P, because Joelov;es itII A wonderful r ..:. t and he',a ft lucky guy to get i t foranother month, you're sure that sur.. hasn't done more than tan you,Joe? 3 .Marine Corps this old typewriter really began, to quiver in spite ofus. After thirty-two months of duty in the South, Southwest ?ndCentral Pacific areas, Col. Worden line been assigned to HeadquartersMarine Corps in Washington, D. C. Not that that" isn 't impressive butwhat throws us into a tizzy of happy satisfaction is that we appar-ently appeal to him enough for him to give us his new address. Thankyon. Col. Worden, and will you write us again?Another change of address' that delights us, along with his nice letteris this one from Sns. EARL Ft. MELLEN, Jr. who is in the Philippinesoperating in a P.B, 4 Y squardron. As usual the censors won't lethim tel l us all the interesting experiences he's had since leavingSan Diego in January but what is permitted is fun to reed. Earl sayshe has more time off to swim and read than he ever hoped for and liv-ing conditions sound decidedly rosy - natives who are delighted to dothe washing for one "thing, New Jersey, by the way, has almost'runout of that kind. Another extinct variety is anything like the Fili-pino boy who lives in the tent v;ith Earl and his pals and loves takingcare of them and their belongings,; Shjoy it while you can, Ens.Mellen, because they must all be in the Pacific area. Earl sends best v/ishesto all and especially to Ens. Mike Di Giovanni.RICHARD K. HORTON, S 1/c 'is out at Camp Parks paid says that if anybodytel ls us.about sunny California to please mow the:;; down, It hasrained ever since he arrived and the camp is a mc.&s of .uud. After allyour nice compliments about us we feel like dogs not to come throughwith the addresses you ask for but -- our "Permanent Notice" isn't putin each month just to fill up apace. Now don' t take offense, Dickdear, we wouldn't cross you for the world, especially since you areabout to graduate as a Demolition Expert, Being demolished is thelast thing we plan on for spring cleaning so write your pals and we'llhurriedly forward the letters (with a wary eye on any stray dynamiteyou may feel like enclosing),JOHN A. HQRTON, R.M. 3/c says its been so long since he last wrote usthat he feels like a heel. Nonsense, Jack, with love entering yourlife via South Mountain Estates, plu/a your new job we can understandperfectly. The apologetic Horton has deserted his L.S.T. and passedthe flight e. .ams for the V-5 program, so is awaiting the call to armsdown at Norfolk, Va. Sorry you had to pick a Sunday to drive pastour new headquarters, a l itt le place but we cal l i t home due to theshortage of everything. (See purty picture at top of front page.)We'll be writing for more news and until then our Cupid's Corner willreserve space for a big announcement on Horton and his dream girl .Of course we always knew that Capt, ?. R. DANTE was &good doctor butnow Army life and travel have turned him into A pretty hot poet aswell. If we didn't have strict orders to cut down even further on ourpaper consumption we'd copy your nifty note for all to read, A tonbreak because i t ' s really good. Tne talented .Doc is working in afield hospital in Germany now, said hospital being in what was once .soap factory. He says the town has been sHjash.ed to rubble and Waspictured in Life Magazine for December 11th which of course sent usflying for our back copies. Thanks again for the letter and peorn andwe're glad you haven't lost your sense of humor,Pfce A. A. PASSARSLLI sends us a quick card to give us his new addressand sends "Hello" to all of you. Tony is evidently on the move be-cause he hopes that now he' ll run into some of you where he's going.Happy travelling and good luck in old Town reunions.By this time we trust that TED SZMANS, S 1/c R.T. is pale, h^le andhearty again because when this card .was written he must have been amass of polka dots and with'a very red face. Poor Ted wrote us whilelying flat out at Great Lakes throwing off a case of s car let fever. That was tough luck and we hope i t hasn't made it hard catching upon your homework for Radio Technician School. We forward your goodwishes to "the Spriggs twins" but the only Spriggs we have on ourbooks is Pvt. Angelo. Is he a twin? More good wishes and hello'sfrom Ted to S 1/c ANGSLO D'lONNO and PVT. FRANK RIZZO. How about youboys writing him, care of us?

4.Lt. THURE ANDERSON went overseas via the Queen Mary but even thatcrowded splendor didn't prevent him from picking up a bad sore throatalong the way. Pie had to whip right into a hospital but fortunatelyis now O.K. and busy at his job of Inspector for his Company. Oursleuths also pass on the glad news that Lt. Anderson likes gettingthe Tattle so you know how mellow that makes us feel.If this was anybody but our deft pal, Sgt. TERENCE GILI we'd clampour jaws shut and scream for a professional but as it is he couldtinker with our choppers anytime. Terence (whose mother is one ofour ablest reporters, by the way) is stationed at a U. S. Army Hos-pital in England, where, under the supervision of a dental officer,he is aiding in all aspects of oral surgery!11 Happy drilling, Sarge, and don't lose that gentle touch.T/Hugho HUGH FIT2SIMM0JJSsays

Ouchl we don't go for the last one so It ' s pleasantto hear that you like the job of Gunnery Officer best (and don't shootus for that.) Stop being so modest, Lieutenant. 6.you, John, you must be rugged as well and we hope by now you're havinga spot of leave.

Lt. (jg) PIERCE CASSEDY, Jr. is in Corpus Christi, Texas, awaiting thearrival of a new P..B.M. of which he will be the pilot.Another officer of simple tastes is Lt. JOHN C. HILDEBRAND, Jr. who issomewhere in Germany living comfortably in a box car. All we can sayis we hope you don't have to share i t with thirty-nine men or sevenhorses, Lieutenant.Cpl. EARL T. PEARSON, at an unknown spot, is now occupying the bestbarracks he's been in since he left the States. What's more, he saysthe food is so good the men will be spoiled when they get home. You'renot just flapping' your lip with that remark either ,*Corporal, as ushousekeepers are meeting' with stiff resistance in the Battle of theMarkets.Sgt. EDWARD S. K. PENDERGAST,Jr. has been vacationing on a beach inIndia. This seems a bald statement of an interlude which brings to ourminds pearls, lotuses and houseboats teeming with pale hands. "Can'tyou tell us more, Eddie? In those aforementioned hot and muddy Philippines, Lt. Comdr. FRANK P..HUMRICH, Jr, is fine, busy, happy and has a good appetite. Can't besuch a bad place after all. Comdr. Eurnrich is exec of a Naval Avia-tion unit.HONOR ROLLWhoever said that "Good Things come in threes" must have had three ofMillburn's heroes partly in mind - as this tr ip has won a third awardapiece. For instance, S/Sgt . MARVIN ASILVKRSHER has just receivedhis third Oak Leaf Cluster to hi s Air Medal which he earned as gunner -radio operator on the B-17 "Blythe Spirit" (Cluster III came so fastafter Cluster II that we didn' t get a chance to write the latter up!)Then Pvt. JOHN SCHOENER was recently awarded his third Bronze Star'forparticipation in battle and S/Sgt. GORDON K. MATTICS has received histhird citation ~ see what we mean by threes? - and we'll add our ownthree rousing cheers just for good measure'.Comdr. ALLEN M. ROBINSON was awarded the Bronze Star for his mine workduties on Admiral Kirk's staff - in connection with the Normandy In-vasions.Another recent recipient of a Bronze Star is S/Sgt. ROBERT C. SLINGSR-LAND - for heroic achievement in action in Italy. In the current item, we espy a photo of the handsome features ofLt. LESTER. P. CARSTENS, USNR who was presented with' the Navy Commenda-tion Ribbon for outstanding performance of duty as* an engineeringofficer, during Mediterranean operations.Lt. HAROLD Li STRICKER received the Air Medal for meritorious achieve-ment in aerial flight against the enemy, while stationed with the AA?in Italy.Lt. G. JAMES COBURN, son of the Short Kills acting Postmaster, and hisgroup received a Presidential Citation in January for forcing enemyretirement - and that's what we call nice forcing and nice going, Janes!Pvt. JOHN HELLERS now in Germany recently sent home his certificateof merit.Lt. VINCENT J. KANE, Jr. has had an Oak Leaf Cluster added to hie BronzeStar for heroic achievement In Italy.Cpl. ROCCO J. SANEARTINQ was right in there pitching and helped savehis ABC Route Ammunition convoy from fire after said convoy had beentyie victim of an attach by a lone Luftwaffe sneak raider. Despite thedanger of Imminent explosion, Rocco and the rest of the convoy crewextinguished the blaze - and had the convoy in running order withinan hour - so we think Cpl. Sanmartino belongs in this Illustriouscolumn.

EATING OUROWN. WORDSUn-tasty as the flavor our Tattla mistakes may be - when we are, forced to eat them by some of your more fastidious fighting folk - wereally don't feel too sorry for ourselves as i t ' s one way of attract-ing your attention enough to write us - so keep us eating, brothers -while we growl over our cud IFirstly - and you can thank the Newark papers for giving us this bumsteer - we bequeathed a Purple Heart on Cpl. CARL BADSNHAUSBN, alongwith his rightfully awarded Bronze Star - and Carl has written hisfamily since, denying any wounds or any awards save the said BronzeStar. So - we're glad and relieved to hear that he's hale and heartyal l six feat six inches of him!Now here's Cpl. STEVE WILSON taking us to task again for S/Sgt. ALDENHINE's latest ti tular error on our port - i t seems we (well -- allright I did i t 1) called him "Top Kick" in the February issue, whichaccording to master-mind Wilson means 1st Sergeant and not his properrating of T/3 then in the Bars Stripes and Chevrons, ibid we (ha'.haI)not me this time!) listed him as T/Sgt. - wrong againl Frankly,we're utterly in the dark on the varying degrees of Sergeant - Steve -and in our Army-Navy slang booklet i t merely says "Top Kick=Sergeantui t doesn't say what kind of a Sarge or whether or not he. should havered hair or wolf's eyes, i t just says "Sergeant" period! So much forerror number one - as for error II , wo'11 just swallow the T/Sgt with,a big chaser and let i t go at that. Seriously, if you would make usa list of the various sergeancies in their proper order, we would beno end grateful - doubtless so would the probable countless othertripla chevron bearers who have been enduring our haphazard treatmentin tolerant silence (by the wry, why doesn't ALDICN follow the exampleof his famous ancestor and "speak for himself'1?)Here's a long suffering man for you, Lt. HAROLD BENNETT patientlywrites "you address ray Tattle to me as an Aviation Cadet, you make1hewrite up about me as Lieutenant, and actually I'm a Flight Officer."Oh, my Harold, how in the world did we ever do that? All we can sayis that iit*s lucky for al l concerned that we are forced to stay onthe home front - where our nutty notions will do the least damage - andour most groveling pleas for forgiveness soar upward to you F.O,Glugl more words to eat? maybe we can slide around this one fromEDWARD T. MOLLACHjJR. S 1/c in our slick li t t le way I Eddie says wecalled JACK CHRISTENSEN a T/Sgt.
