Trowbridge Chamber Orchestra at no cost in

there are eight named Advanced Study ProgramEnsembles at Settlement.

in Creative Movement, Ballet, Jazz, and Modern
Dance. Oering boys and girls the opportunity
or physical and artistic expression, and pre-
proessional training, the program emphasizes
proper body alignment, healthy physical develop-
ment and the integration o music and dance. As
students progress through the program, they will
ollow a careully developed, sequential course o
study that includes perormance opportunities. All

INTRODUCTION TO THE GUITAR
Designed specically or adults, this one-hourclass covers note-reading, pick and nger-style
playing techniques, open position chords, and
strumming patterns in several dierent styles,
including olk, rock, blues and classical. Students
supply their own instrument.
TuiTion: $160 for 10 weeks
AFRO-LATIN PERCUSSION
Learn the techniques o hand drumming using
congas, bongos and timbales. Understand the
origins and infuences o Aro-Latin (Caribbean
region) music. Experience popular rhythms rom
Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia and
Dominican Republic.

DANCE PROGRAM
Oering an opportunity or physical and artistic
expression, the program emphasizes proper body
alignment, healthy physical development and the
integration o music and dance. Open to all levels.

TAIKO DRUMMING FUNDAMENTALS I
This introductory ve-week course ocusing on
the art o Japanese Taiko drumming. Students will
be introduced to the basics which include stick
technique, traditional rhythms and highly stylized
movements. Be prepared or a satisying workout!
TuiTion: $80 for 5 weeks
TAIKO DRUMMING FUNDAMENTALS II
Further developing subjects presented in Taiko
Fundamentals I. The concept o Ji Uchi (a base
or backing rhythm) is used to develop timing and
ensemble. Simple Taiko composition is taught to
reinorce the concepts presented.
TuiTion: $80 for 5 weeks
TAIKO DRUMMING STYLESExplores the dierent styles o playing Taiko, such
as Naname (slant style), Miyake style, as well as
the playing techniques or the Odaiko (Big Drum),
Shime, Okedo, and Katsugi Okedo. These tech-
niques are required or learning specic repertoire.
Each 5-week session will ocus on one
specic topic.
TuiTion: $80 for 5 weeks
TAIKO DRUMMING REPERTOIRE
Focusing on works rom the Taiko repertoire. Each
5-week session ocuses on one specic composi-
tion, although some songs are broken up over the
course o two sessions. Students learn all the parts
o each composition presented. Repertoire to bedetermined by instructor.

RECORDER ENSEMBLE
Be a part o a group playing one o the worlds old-
est instruments - the recorder. Explore music rom
the renaissance and baroque, English & Irish olk
tunes, holiday classics and much more. Any size
instrument rom the ull amily o recorders - play
one or switch and play them all! All playing levels
rom beginner to advanced.
TuiTion: $160 for 10 weeks
INTRODUCTION TO THE PIANO
This one-hour class teaches the basics o playing
piano in a un, collegial setting. Students (4 per
group class) will learn correct hand position, music
theory, note-reading and simple ve-nger pieces
with basic chords. Students who sign up or subse-
quent 10-week sessions will extend out o ve-
nger position, learn accompaniment patterns and
ocus on more dicult repertoire. While a piano is
great, adults who have an electronic keyboard will
also achieve great success.
TuiTion: $170 for 10 weeks
ALBUM ROCK FOR THE GUITAR
This class is or more experienced adult guitar-
ists (note-reading not necessary, but knowledge
o chords is required). Students will learn to play
songs and lead guitar patterns rom a classic rock
album in sequence rom the rst track to the last.
TuiTion: $160 for 10 weeks
INSIDE THE SYMPHONY
An exploration o classical music, discovering
the inner workings o sonatas, symphonies and
concertos. Students will listen to and examine
the works o great composers, including Mozart,
Beethoven and Brahms. This class will greatly
enhance understanding o music and the
experience o attending classical concerts.
TuiTion: $160 for 10 weeks
JAZZ COMBOS
Open to adults interested in learning the art o
improvisation in combos. Must have at least two
years experience on their instrument, be ableto read music and chord changes. All levels are
oered rom beginning jazz musicians to highly
advanced musicians.

TEAChER TRAINING INSTITUTE
FOR ThE ARTS
Provides proessional development and continuing
education opportunities that help teachers
o young children incorporate arts content,
approaches and materials into their general
classrooms and provides training to artist teachers
in adapting their wor or young learners.
Graduate credit available through Holy Family
University. Specialized training programs can be
designed or particular schools or teaching units.

ZAUSMER ThERAPEUTIC ARTS PROGRAM
Settlement Music School recognizes that all
students have unique needs, abilities, and modes
o expression and communication. The Zausmer
Program oers music therapy, dance/movement
therapy, or adapted music or dance instruction
as appropriate to students needs. Services are
provided in an educational setting by proessional
creative arts therapists rom the kardon Institute
or Settlement teachers with experience and train-
ing woring with people with disabilities. Call the
Settlement Branch nearest you or inormation.
KALEIDOSCOPE PRESChOOL ARTS
ENRIChMENT PROGRAM
This nationally recognized, award-winning
program prepares young children or school
through an arts-integrated curriculum. kaleido-
scope encourages creative thining in a stimulating
environment so every child gets the attention, care
and tools they need to enter indergarten ready
to learn and succeed. Through music, creative
movement and visual arts, children in this pro-
gram develop literacy and math sills and become
socially aware in a un, accepting environment.
The program ollows the school year calendar rom
September to June, rom 8:30 AM - 2:45 PM, at the
Mary Louise Curtis and Germantown Branches.

at Settlement branches and at the partners site.
