DESCRIPTION

A simulation of agile team working, based on Jon Jagger's "Kanban 1's game"

TRANSCRIPT

Agile 1’s Game

We work in teams, in a pipeline

Each team has a ‘Backlog’ of story cards

The aim is to get story cards from

‘Backlog’ to ‘Done’

Each story card has a size

Each story has to be worked on by every

team member in turn

You can only work on a story that is in front of

you

Each team member has six dice

Every day we all throw all our dice TOGETHER

Every ‘1’ you throw is one unit of work done

Record the amount of work done on the

story in front of you

When you have finished a story, pass it to the next team member

Each story takes the same amount of work from every team member

Questions?

Form into teams - choose a name

Create your pipeline

Create a backlog of 5 stories

Questions?

Iteration 1

Retrospective

BacklogYou can use a unit of work to create a new

story for the backlog:

Iteration 2

Retrospective

Story Splitting

You can use a unit of work to split any story:

Iteration 3

Retrospective

SwarmingBefore your team rolls, you can decide to lend some of your dice to another team

member

For each die that you lend, you must put another die aside:

Lend Put aside Roll1 1 42 2 23 3 0

Iteration 4

Retrospective

DefectsAfter each ‘day’, roll 2 dice for each card that

is still ‘in progress’

Total Outcome

10 Lose all work done

11Lose all work done AND move card

back one

12 Lose all work done AND move card to backlog

Iteration 5

Retrospective

WIP

Implement a work in progress limit of 2.

So, no story can move to the next stage in the pipeline if there is a story being worked

on in that stage.

Iteration 6

Retrospective

WIP and Buffers

Vary the WIP limit.

Create buffers.

Iteration 7
