What Is Artificial Intelligence?

An area of computer science that deals with giving the ability to computer to seem like they have human intelligence.

History Of AI:

1943: McCulloch & Pitts propose a model of artificial neurons.1956: Minsky & Edmonds builds first neural network computer, the SNARC.1956: Computer were solving word problem in algebra, proving logical theorems & speaking English.In the early 80s: AI research was received by the commercial success of Expert System.In the 90s & early 21st century: AI achieved its greatest successes.

Goals in AI

To build a system that exhibit intelligent behavior.To understand intelligence in order to model it.

Applications

Smart Car:Speech recognition.Up-to-date information about historical landmarks & points of interest on the cars rout.Lowest price gas station close to the current position of the car.Warns drivers of road hazards.

In Military:

The U.S is spending as much 100 billion dollars to develop robots that can aid or replace human soldiers on the front line. These robots can operate in combat zones with little supervision. Flight stimulations & virtual environments help train over 500,000 soldiers.

Robotics

Robots may be one of the most well known example of Artificial intelligenceJapan has announced that they will send the first humanoid robots to the moon.

What is New In AI

Honda has created a helmet-like device that can read human brain waves & transmit them to humanoid robot. A person can make the robot perform simple tasks, including moving its arm.Prototypes of a car with sensor & small motors to navigate a traffic-laden city street with no driver have been created.

Advantages

Machine can do complex & stressful work.Faster than human.Multiple task at a time.

Disadvantages

Lacks the human touch.Steal human job.Only can do programmed work.

We have discussed some of its applications and its achievements etc.The ultimate goal is working on AI is to solve majority of problems or to achieve the tasks which we humans directly can’t accomplish. It is for sure that development in this field of computer science will change the complete scenario of the world. Now it is the responsibility of creamy layer of engineers to develop this field.
