The official teaching language is Italian, but individual lectures, courses or design studios and their relevant examinations may be conducted in English, in particular in the MSc cycle.A working knowledge of English is desirable and may be prescribed by the Rules for Study.By specific request made in good time, and with the agreement of the faculty member responsible for each examination, the examinations may be taken in other languages.For students who are not native Italian speakers, the Academy organizes intensive courses in Italian which take place before the academic year. Other courses are offered during the semesters.

Eligibility for admission: Swiss school-leaving certificates, obtained in Switzerland:

• Federal or cantonal matriculation recognized by the Swiss Federal Matriculation Committee.

• Cantonal maturità commerciale (Bellinzona)• Artistic maturity under Cantonal Law issued by the Liceo

Artistico CSIA (in this case admission is contingent upon an interview and an examination in Mathematics).

• CSIA’s maturità professionale is not recognised• Students who has a maturità professionale must contact the

State Secretariat for Education and Research in Bellinzona (they must give additional exams)

• Foreign Secondary School leaving certificates must be equavalent to the Swiss ones. As a rule, reference is made to the guidelines of Swissuniversities, the new Rector's Conference of Swiss Universities.

• For students whose official residence was in Switzerland, or in Liechtenstein at the time of the final Upper Secondary School exam (Maturità) the semester’s fees are of CHF 2’000.- (CHF 4’000.- per year).

• The semester’s fees for every other foreign student is of CHF4’000.- (CHF 8’000.- per year).

• The test will only take place if the number of applicantsexceeds the number of places available (130)

• Students of Swiss nationality and those who were legally domiciled in Switzerland (including Liechtenstein and Campione d’Italia) when they received the qualification that gained them admission to the Accademia will not have to take the test, since they enjoy precedence in the admissionprocess

• The percentage of places available for students of othernationalities is usually around 70-80%

• In the event of a selective testing, it will take placeduring the 3rd-4th week of July in the year of enrolment, so every student has already given his last secondarySchool final exams in their nation of origin.

• The selective test via Skype will take place in May onlyfor extra-European students (non-EU/EFTA).

• If selective testing takes place, you will receive an e-mail in mid-June with dates and subjects to prepare for.

• In order to give the test, the student must sign up for it and pay CHF 200.- with credit card.

• The link for the test sign-up and payment will be communicated via e-mail on June 14th 2019.

Structure of the selective test:• The test comprises three written exams:

• Mathematics• History of art, architecture and drawing• Foreign language (except mother tongue)

Scholarships for 1st year Bachelor students from Swiss-German and Swiss french cantons

• Among its goals USI seeks to further encourage multiculturality among its student core, also as a stimulus for the Italian speaking students.USI therefore assigns every year to all first year Bachelor students from the Swiss-german and Swiss-french Cantons a scholarship equivalent to the yearly tuiton fee of CHF 4000.

Scholarships for incoming students from Swiss-German and Swiss French cantons residing at the Casa dell’Accademia

• The Fondazione per la Casa dell’Accademia offers ten scholarships worth CHF 3000.-, corresponding to half the yearly rent+expenses to incoming students from Swiss-German and Swiss French cantons.

• Students are invited to forward their request through the Accademia’s website under Scholarships.
