Bell Labs is one of the world's preeminent industrial research organizations.

With 14 researchers accounting for eight Nobel Prizes…

and scores of other prizes across a range of disciplines.

Yet, recent achievements and innovations often remained unknown throughout the organization as a whole.

Bell Labs sought out experiential company MC2 to turn an underused part of its dining room into a lounge that would foster communication.

MC2 believed Bell Labs deserved more than a lounge. It deserved a space that would be inspirational in both form and function – something befitting the great minds that work there.

The result was The Anomaly, a 24-by-18 foot space that is a 360-degree immersive environment…

…including a floor-to-ceiling 4K video wall with touchscreen capability.

The walls can be opaque for privacy…

or transparent to open up and spark connections .

When not in use, the walls unobtrusively share and celebrate Bell Lab’s illustrious past with archival photos

…or use real time algorithms to develop new imagery each day – an homage to the Labs’ own role in developing computer coding languages and operating systems.

Engaging with this space can happen in one of two ways: by direct touch…

…or through the use of the "touchstone" controller.

The Anomaly has become part of daily life at Bell Labs and is used in a variety of ways to foster communication.

The Anomaly is used as a technology demonstration space, a classroom, a video and graphics library, an executive meeting space, a video conference room and a broadcast hub.

MC2 knew we had exceeded this prestigious organization's expectation when its president, referencing Star Trek, stated:

MC2 and the Bell Labs Anomaly have won Best in Class Gold from the 2015 Horizon Interactive Awards.
