• Researchers have identified a gene called FGF20 that is required for a proper development of mouse inner ear.

• When the researchers inactivated FGF20 in mice, they saw they hadn't the ability to hear.

• The results show that disabling the gene causes a loss about 2/3 of outer hair cells.

Is important to use all our resources, such as experimental models in order to find the cure for all diseases, bearing in mind human life and proper management to organisms used for investigation.

These investigations are essential to obtain further solutions in the field of human health, in this case the most age-related and noise-induced hearing loss is due to the miss of outer hair cells. If we can find ways to regenerate these cells could solve one of the problems that affect our sense of hearing.
