CAC Meeting

October 1, 2009

This year, Mills has approximately 1080 students. The largest Elementary in AISD.

School was built for 836 – this is known as “permanent capacity.”

Right now, we are 244 students over permanent capacity, or 129% of capacity.

AISD works to prevent schools from going beyond 115% of permanent capacity.

115% of our permanent capacity is 962.

No room for portables.

Added 5 classrooms this year, with the addition of 2 portables (4 classrooms) and the relocation of 1 Pre-K classroom to Kiker.

Achieve capacity targets that ensure efficient operation of facilities.

Affect the fewest students possible. Prevent multiple reassignments of

students among schools by developing stable, long-term assignment plans.

Minimize distance for students to and from school.

Align feeder patterns (tracking).

*As of 10/1 these have not been approved by the Board of Trustees.

Mills held a Boundary Information Meeting September 21, and solicited input from parents and community members.

Parents and community members were asked to fill out a survey ranking their priorities during the boundary process.

The Boundary Reps will use these priorities to evaluate boundary plans together.

We made the surveys available at: The Boundary Information Meeting The Front Office for 1 week The Principal’s Coffee.

132 Surveys were completed and returned to us within the 1 week timeframe.

We wanted to collect the data before the boundary task force began meeting.
