BRINGING THE LOST TO JESUS

Mk 2:1-12

Mark 2:1-12 “And again he entered into

Capernaum after some days; and it was noised

that he was in the house. And straightway…

Mark 2:1-12 …many were gathered together,

insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about

the door: and he…

Mark 2:1-12 …preached the word unto them. And

they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne

of four. And when they…

Mark 2:1-12 …could not come nigh unto him for

the press, they uncovered the roof

where he was: and when they had broken it up…

Mark 2:1-12 …they let down the bed wherein

the sick of the palsy lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the

sick of the palsy, Son…

Mark 2:1-12 …thy sins be forgiven thee. But there

were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

Why doth this man…

Mark 2:1-12 …thus speak blasphemies? who can

forgive sins but God only? And immediately

when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so…

Mark 2:1-12 …reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why

reason ye these things in your hearts? Whether is it easier to say to the…

Mark 2:1-12 …sick of the palsy, Thy sins be

forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy

bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the…

Mark 2:1-12 …Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)

I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed…

Mark 2:1-12 …and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he

arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch…

Mark 2:1-12 …that they were all amazed, and

glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this

fashion”

Business of the church is to bring sinners to

Jesus.We should be placing

great emphasis on reaching the lost.

THERE WAS A CROWDMark 2:2

The place was full of people.

1. A Few Observations:

Mark 2:2 “And straightway many were gathered

together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the

door: and he preached the word unto them”

Lets focus on the four that brought

the sick of the palsy to Jesus.

THE FOUR WERE COMMITTED

Mark 2:4

2. A Few Observations:

Mark 2:4 “And when they could not come nigh unto

him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he

was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of

the palsy lay”

They could not gel in for the multitude.

Now they’ve messed up--- tore a portion

of the roof off.

1 Pet 2:23-25 “Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered,

he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare…

1 Pet 2:23-25 …our sins in his own body on the tree,

that we, being dead to sins, should live unto

righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going…

1 Pet 2:23-25 …astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of

your souls?”

2 Tim 1:12 “For the which cause I also suffer these things:

nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have

believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that

which I have committed unto him against that day”

2 Cor 5:19 “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling

the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses

unto them; and hath committed unto us the word

of reconciliation”

He that committeth sin is of the devil!

1 John 3:8 “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil

sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God

was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil”

1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin

transgresseth also the law: for sin is the

transgression of the law”

John 8:34 “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,

Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin”

The four were committed to doing saving a soul.

Others are committed to serving sin.

THERE ARE THE CARELESSMark 2:5-7

3. A Few Observations:

Mark 2:5 “When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy

sins be forgiven thee. 6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there,…

Mark 2:5 … and reasoning in their hearts. Why doth

this man thus speak blasphemies? who can

forgive sins but God only?”

Some are not very helpful toward God’s command

to reaching the lost. These four men thought

about someone else besides themselves.

Psa 37:5 “Commit thy way unto the

LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass”

Prov 16:3 “Commit thy works unto the

LORD, and thy thoughts shall be

established”

Psa 31:5 “Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O

LORD God of truth”

1 John 3:9 “Whosoever is born of God doth not

commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is

born of God”

THERE ARE THE CRIPPLED

Mark 2:3

4. A Few Observations:

Mark 2:3 “And they come unto him,

bringing one sick of the palsy, which was

borne of four”

The people that should be reached are considered spiritually

handicapped or crippled.

Open your eyes… the fields are white

already unto harvest!

THERE ARE THE CRITICALMark 2:6-7

5. A Few Observations:

Mark 2:6-7 “But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but

God only?”

The critical are not all dead yet!

We might as well get use to being criticized.

Note: If they criticized our Lord, why not us?

THERE ARE THE COMPASSIONATE

Mark 2:3

A Few Observations:

Mark 2:3 “And they come unto him,

bringing one sick of the palsy, which was

borne of four”

Though they are few thank God for

them. Compassion is a great

motivating power.

What are you willing to do to become a child

of God?

All that matters is that you are a

faithful child of God and prepared to

meet Jesus Christ.

1 John 3:9 “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed

remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because

he is born of God”

Rom 10:17 “So then faith cometh by

hearing, and hearing by the word

of God”

Acts 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be

converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when

the times of refreshing shall come from the

presence of the Lord”

Phil 2:11 “And that every tongue should confess that Jesus

Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the

Father”

Gal 3:27 “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on

Christ”
