1. Collaborate with community-based organizations, libraries, churches, and colleges to create 5 “Café con Leche” activities per year ;

2. Meet monthly with parents to provide information regarding enrollment, financial aid, career counseling, and job opportunities;

3. Host an Encuentro Day or comparable activity each year of the grant.

4. Facilitate pathways to four year universities and incorporate hands-on activities regarding science and other careers at Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi and at St. Edwards University;

5. Facilitate transfer and articulation agreements between Del Mar College, El Centro College/DCCCD, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, St. Edwards University and Houston Community College.

Houston Community College (HCC), Del Mar College (DMC), El Centro College, Dallas,St. Edwards University, and Texas A & M Corpus Christi developed a 24-month innovativeplan to recruit and retain Hispanic students into higher education.

Café con Leche means, “let’s talk;” our proposal is designed to recruit across fourTexas communities - Houston, Dallas, Austin, Corpus Christi - and demonstrate to studentsand parents the urgent need for an education.

A Collaborative Initiative between Five Colleges

Increase Hispanic students' knowledge about colleges, universities, and professional careers.

Increase the number of Hispanic students who enroll in a 2 or 4-year institutions of higher education or transfer from a community college to a four-year college or university.

Hilltopper for a Day Summer Program

• Summer 2012 (details forthcoming)• Description: An immersion experience

where students/parents learn about admissions, financial aid/scholarships, student life, career opportunities (especially in STEM and agricultural fields), and participate in college tour

Hilltopper Mentors Program

• Description: A mentoring program that helps new & transfer students transition into university life

• Students are paired with faculty/staff member who meets/corresponds with them at least every other week

• Mentees and mentors participate in training and other activities throughout the year-long program

Articulation Agreements & Community College Recruitment• Working with Café Con Leche partners to

facilitate this process through CCL activities and articulation agreement process

• Working to recruit STEM and other students from Austin Community College campuses around Central Texas– Part-time recruitment coordinator:
