Captain William Clark Park at Cottonwood BeachCOLUMBIA RIVER TRAIL 3.1 miles

SR 14 AT 15TH STREET, WASHOUGAL

This popular 75-acre site includes 3.1 miles of easy trail that runs along a dike paralleling the Columbia River and features spectacular

pedestrian tunnel passes under SR-14 and connects the trail to Washougal’s downtown area. The tunnel is constantly illuminated and features basalt panels decorated with petroglyph designs of the Native Columbia Gorge tribes. Horses are allowed on the dike trail, and should be loaded at the west end of S Index Street. Lewis and Clark camped at Cottonwood Beach for six days in March and April 1806 — the longest period they stayed at any site in Clark County.
