How did Jesus relate to his team?

Objectives1. In this session you will learn how to be

relational to the team.2. You will develop interpersonal skills by

imitating Christ3. You will become a relational leader and not

an instructional leader

Important Scriptures John 13:23  Luke 10:21 Matthew 5:13,14 Matthew 7:12 Luke 6:31,32 John 6:70,71 John 1:14 1Peter 2:21 Mark 3:35

How did Jesus relate to his team?

1. He loved them (John 13:23)2. He was excited by their success(Luke 10:21)3. He affirmed them (Matthew 5:13,14)4. He respected them (Matthew 7:12;Luke 6:31,32)5. He was transparent and non compromising.(John 6:70,71)6. He was visible to them, a good role model.(John

1:14;1Peter 2:21)7. He encouraged the Word as His basis for relationship

(Mark 3:35)

Plan to apply these principles of Christ to your Team.1. Do you love them unconditionally, because they are your

brothers and sisters or in spite of them being your brothers and sisters.?

2. Do they respect you?3. Do you affirm them?4. Are you excited by their successes?5. Are you transparent?6. Do you encourage them to stick to the Word of God?

How did Jesus relate to his team?

Examine yourself1. If it is “never” develop now to change.2. Continue until you have developed a culture of

doing and implementing in the area of need.3. Diarise it into your plan.4. Anytime is to soon to give up5. Start today to change and build your team.6. Purposefully plan to impact them.7. Grow your team and you will grow the work!

A culture that is stronger will always dominate a weaker

culture.

A strong culture of being undisciplined will always dominate

a culture of discipline.

Develop a positive culture until the negative culture

submits to it.

People do not worry too much about the program they would more readily

respond to …

Whether they experience a sense of belonging and a sense

of being cared for.

John 13:23

23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.(NKJ)

• Love : “agapao” to love in a moral and social sense. An unconditional love

Luke 10:21

21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.(NKJ)

Matt 5:13-1413 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the

salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.(NKJ)

Matt 7:12

12 "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

(NKJ)

John 6:70-71

70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a

devil?"71 He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of

Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.

(NKJ)

John 1:14

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

(NKJ)

1 Pet 2:21-22

21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

22 "Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth";

(NKJ)

Mark 3:35

35 "For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother."

(NKJ)

Objectives1. To develop a character that will sustain your

purpose and vision.2. To build a greater capacity so that you are

competent in the market place.3. To build stronger trust levels in yourself and others

Value Driven Leadership

In a few hundred years, when the history of our time is written from a long term perspective, it is likely that the most important event those historians will see is not technology, not the internet, not e-commerce.

Value Driven Leadership

It is the unprecedented change in the human condition. For the first time – literally- substantial and rapidly growing numbers of people have choices. For the fist time , they will have to manage themselves.

Value Driven Leadership

“ And Society is

totally unprepared

for it!”

Value Driven Leadership

Hunter Age

Agricultural Age

Industrial Age

Information Age

Wisdom/Character

5 Stages of Civilizations' Growth

Value Driven Leadership

The challenges• Each age introduces a technology that makes the

previous age redundant and irrelevant.• Due to this people aspire to improve their

competence levels.• So we have a number of competent people but we

are also seeing the decline of people of character.• Each age had a control model. Each age had a

model of governance

Value Driven Leadership

Important Points to consider The industrial age ushered in the management of people like

they were things, the downward approach. The 21st Century is ushering a management style of

managing yourself. The most valuable asset of the 20th Century were its

production equipment. The most valuable asset of the 21st Century is its people

capacity and their productivity

Value Driven Leadership

We study how to make money

but we never study how to live in order

to make money.

Value Driven Leadership

Was Jesus Outdated?• No a thousand times no!, He was ahead of

our time and He still is.• Remember He is the beginning and the End!• Let us look at Jesus when it comes to

character.

Value Driven Leadership

The Team if it is not• Using new technology it is becoming

irrelevant• Using new levels of information it is not

growing its capacity• Doing new things it is not growing, it is

maintaining the status quo.

Value Driven Leadership

Three areas of the Life of Jesus• Character• Competence• Wisdom

Value Driven Leadership

Character• Integrity • Maturity• Abundance Mentality

Value Driven Leadership

IntegrityHonesty is telling the truth.

Integrity is making a promise to

yourself /others and keeping it.

Integrity is completeness

Value Driven Leadership

Matt 5:3737 "But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your

'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Matt 1:2222 So all this was done that it might

be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet,

saying:(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Characteristics of Integrity• Faithful : Decisive• Fulfilled : Delivers• Focused : Directed

People who are faithful, fulfilling and focused

are people who can be trusted

Value Driven Leadership

MaturityJohn 4:3434 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the

will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

• Food : That which sustains• Will: what one wishes or has determined

to be done. A choice of one’s own will.

• Finish: To carry through completely or to accomplish.

• Work: business, employment what one is occupied with

Value Driven Leadership

• What sustains me is to be committed to the Business of the one who has employed me and to carry it through to completion.

• This is what occupies my time, my space, my life.

Value Driven Leadership

Jesus defines thisLuke 16:12

12 "And if you have not been faithful in what is another man's, who will give you what is your own?

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Growth through Developing People

The Jesus Way

Jesus’ Character• Integrity : Is making a promise to yourself

and others and keeping it.• Maturity : Is to align yourself to someone

elses’ vision and making it happen.

• Abundance Mentality

Value Driven Leadership

Characteristics of Integrity• Faithful : Decisive• Fulfilled : Delivers• Focused : Directed

People who are faithful, fulfilling and focused

are people who can be trusted

Value Driven Leadership

The Key to maturity is:• ALIGNMENT• Being willing to align yourself to the task of

someone else and to be passionate about it.• If you cannot serve someone else‘s vision,

how will you be able to have someone else passionately serves yours.

Value Driven Leadership

3. Abundance MentalityJohn 10:1010 "The thief does not come except to

steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

• Abundantly; extravangantly: profusely;more than enough.

• Superabundant in quantity and superabundance in quality. More than is necessary

• High level of quality and abundance.• Jesus offers the best and the most.

Value Driven Leadership

Eph 3:2020 Now to Him who is able to do

exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

• Power : Dunamis:• The ability that is inherent inside due to the

nature of the person or thing.• Example : The Rhino; The Elephant; the ant;

the mouse, what is the difference? They are all living creatures. Each possesses the quality of life.

Value Driven Leadership

The DifferenceIt is the power

inherent in their nature.

Value Driven Leadership

The Nature of Jesus• We are endowed with the nature of someone

with whom all things are possible.• We are partakers of His divine Nature.

(1 Peter 1:4)• Jesus has an abundance mentality

Value Driven Leadership

Leaders with an abundance Mentality1. They do not see a competition with only one winner, they

see a vast field of opportunity.(Luke 9:49)2. They never compare themselves with others.(2 Cor 10:12)3. They are excited about the successes of others. (Luke

10:21)4. They see others who are better than them, as teachers and

friends and not as competitors or enemies (John 14:12)

Value Driven Leadership

The 2nd area is Capacity to Complete• Many leaders are focused on Competing

rather than completing.• There are three areas that needs to be given

attention with regards to capacity, they are– Skills– Vision– Team focused on “US” or Corporate strength

Value Driven Leadership

Skills : Jesus as our exampleMark 7:3737 And they were astonished beyond

measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

He has done all things well!• Things done excellently promotes the organisation

or the quality of the institution or the Church is known throughout the earth. Excellence will take you from Local to International. (Isaiah 12:5)

• An Excellent Spirit will give you as a leader promotion to the next level increasing your levels of authority. (Dan 6:3)

Value Driven Leadership

The Opposite of excellence is slothfulness

Prov 18:99 He who is slothful in his work

is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Skills will bring successEccl 10:10

10 If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but wisdom brings success.

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

VisionHeb 12:22 looking unto Jesus, the author and

finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Great Leadership always leads with…• The end in sight : the bigger picture• The understanding that the bigger picture

determines the choice of the team• The insight of knowing that the bigger picture

determines the length of the journey.• The understanding that the bigger picture is

what develops focus and determination to continue.

Value Driven Leadership

3rd : The Team mindset.Gen 1:2626 Then God said, "Let Us make man in

Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." (NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Matt 1:2323 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child,

and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God

with us."(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Mark 3:1414 Then He appointed twelve, that they

might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach,

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

God is a corporate God…• Let us• Immanuel : God with us• Jesus appointed his twelve.• The Team is vital in the 21st Century.

Value Driven Leadership

2 Pet 1:44 by which have been given to us

exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Luke 9:49-5049 Now John answered and said,

"Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow with us.”

Value Driven Leadership

Luke 9:49-5050 But Jesus said to him, "Do not

forbid him, for he who is not against us is on our side."

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

2 Cor 10:1212 For we dare not class ourselves or

compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Luke 10:2121 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit

and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

John 14:1212 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who

believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

(NKJ)

Value Driven Leadership

Isa 12:5

5 Sing to the LORD, for He has done excellent things; this is known in all the earth.

above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.
